(Opening Scene: The low growl of the Shadowed Maw echoes through the trees, its musky scent growing stronger. Kurozane grips the Null Blade, Eclipse coiling silently beside him, both alert.)
The growl intensified, and then, with a sudden burst of speed, the Shadowed Maw lunged from the dense undergrowth. Its glowing red eyes were fixed on Kurozane, its razor-sharp teeth bared in a silent snarl. It moved with the terrifying swiftness Kurozane remembered, the shadows seeming to cling to its chitinous form.
But this time, Kurozane didn't freeze in terror.
"Looks like someone woke up onthe wrong side of bed, but let me tell you a secret. Your fast but not fast enough" said Kurozane.
Either it heard him or not the shadowed maw still lunged at him.
The cold energy of the Null Blade in his hand grounded him, and the silent presence of Eclipse beside him provided a sense of unexpected confidence.
As the Shadowed Maw sprang towards him, intending to take him by surprise, Eclipse moved with lightning speed. Its shadowy serpentine form uncoiled and shot forward, intercepting the creature mid-air. The impact was silent but forceful, sending the Shadowed Maw skidding sideways on the forest floor.
"Meet my good friend Eclipse"
The Shadowed Maw hissed, its red eyes narrowing in surprise at the sudden interference. It had likely not anticipated Kurozane having a companion, let alone one that could move with such speed and force.
Kurozane seized the opportunity. He stepped forward, the Null Blade held ready. The blade seemed to hum faintly in his grip, resonating with the shadows of the forest. He could feel the void's power flowing through it, cold and sharp.
The Shadowed Maw, recovering quickly, turned its attention back to Kurozane. It circled warily, its shadow blend ability making it flicker in and out of clear visibility, a disconcerting dance of predator and
A thought echoed in Kurozane's mind from Eclipse, a silent tactical suggestion. "The light… disrupts the veil. Force it into the open."
"Hmmm, thanks Eclipse I'll get you whatever you eat. Now time for this fool, Mr Shadow Maw come outtttttt!
Or ill force you out.
Kurozane focused his will. He channeled the void energy through the Null Blade, and the shadows around him seemed to writhe and deepen. Then, with a sharp, controlled movement, he unleashed a focused wave of dark energy from the blade towards the area where the Shadowed Maw had just vanished into the deeper shadows.
The effect was immediate. The patch of shadow seemed to recoil, and the Shadowed Maw was forced back into clear view, hissing and spitting as if burned by an unseen force. The focused void energy had disrupted its ability to blend seamlessly.
Now visible, the Shadowed Maw lunged again, its whip-like tails lashing out with surprising speed. Kurozane reacted, the Null Blade moving in a swift arc. The shadowy blade connected with one of the bony spikes on the tail, severing it cleanly. A silent shriek of pain seemed to emanate from the creature.
The confrontation had begun in earnest. Kurozane, no longer defenseless, stood ready to face the Shadowed Maw, the Null Blade his weapon, Eclipse his silent ally. The hunter had become the prey.
