Twisting Encounter
Our gazes met, and I was hit by what only amounted to streaks of lightning that seemed to run through my veins. There was a moment of silence. Tybalt's blue eyes looked so clear, sending a slow shiver down my spine. Legends had been mentioned the Alpha of the Moonlight Pack, but nothing could have prepared me for the level of power he had.
We were there, the two of us at opposite ends of an unspoken understanding, and I simply knew that this was something beyond curiosity. It felt like we both knew that our lives had met here in time and space, meant to be forever changed, in ways we could never possibly understand.
Tension hung thickly in the air; wolves wailed far in the distance. But I paid no heed to anything except him standing before me. He passed around some strange power that caught my attention and drew me to him.
The seconds passed by slowly, and our eyes were fixed on one another. As every second passed, the bond between us grew stronger. I felt like he was showing me a summary of his personality, and the sight of it made it good, as well as terrified me to death.
There were depths to the look that whispered of wisdom that walked down this world, and yet, hints of being loose suggested that he was not as simple as he appeared.
The silence actually seemed to convey a meaning to us, one, no words enough to express the depth of our emotions.
A moment of being in Tybalt's one-track mind for me would definitely be an issue for my poor heart. There was a power pulling me in ways I couldn't even begin to know, and I felt a little contradiction with that about him as well. So what then?
A glimpse of drunkenness in Tybalt's single-minded attention towards me would indeed be a problem for my sick heart. There was some power drawing me in a manner I had not even begun to understand, and I felt that same contradiction in him as well. And so, then what?
Tybalt's eyes appeared to look right through to the depths of my heart, to challenge me with answers I wasn't sure I was prepared to face. At last, he spoke, his tone low and raspy.
"Sonia," he called me, and a shiver ran down my spine. "What are you here for?"
I swallowed spit, as I struggled to speak. "I… I was just going out," I was able to utter. I swallowed hard another time, trying to say a word. "I… am actually going out," I stammered.
Tybalt's eyes met mine, and the mood changed. "A walk?" he asked. "At midnight? Alone?"
I nodded, feeling myself become defensive. "Yes, I just have to clear up my head when I get worried, you know… Sometimes."
Tybalt's expression relaxed a bit, and he raised another step as he followed. "I understand now," he said. "But you shouldn't go out here by yourself. Not with enemies squeezed within our packs."
My heart overflowed with panic-induced thoughts immediately as he took a different step towards me again, his nearness making all my senses take flight. "I can take care of myself," I attempted to chase him away.
Afterward, Tybalt's eyes got fixed on me, and I could feel the amusement swerving around their sockets. "I'm sure you can," he responded to me. "But I'd prefer not to take any silly chances."
And with that, his hand left his side, touched mine, and sent a shock wave through my veins, making me flinch. Tybalt's eyes crossed and I captured them, just as he continued gazing at me.
"Come on, I must take you back to the den," he said, his voice as deep and rough as ever. "You're not safe there, alone."
I nodded, grateful. Walking beside him, there wasn't any tension in the silence, and I was at ease with Tybalt in a way that I hadn't expected.
But when we finally arrived at the den, however, I knew our problems were far from resolved. The question was, what did we do next?
As we walked, there was no awkward silence between us, and I eased up a bit about Tybalt, which I had not anticipated. We moved further into the forest, trees towering above us like sentinels. The moon was overhead, casting a silver light on the ground.
As we approached the den, I could see the outline of the building in the distance. It was enormous, and it had windows glowing like lanterns deep in the shadows. Tybalt opened the door, and we entered, the heat of the den surrounding us like a cloak.
"Enjoy the ride home," I told him, owing one to Tybalt.
He grinned, wrinkling the edges of his eyes. "Anytime," he replied. "But, you're okay, right? I want you to be."
My mind felt at ease with what he'd done and said, and I knew I was already feeling in love, totally in love with him. I loved Tybalt. It wasn't a matter of attraction anymore. And I wasn't certain if I was prepared to admit it to myself, much less him.
And there, while we stood, tension existed between us. I could feel the burden of our unspoken emotions, the uncertainty of what would happen next.
A noise shook the den, making Tybalt lift around his head. "What is it?!" He exclaimed, his voice almost disappearing tightly.
One of his packs entered, his face wild. "Alpha, Victoria wants to see you," he stated. "Now."
Tybalt's eyes were clearly displayed as he turned on me. "I'll make sure I do something about this," he assured me. "I only want to be sure that you're faring well. You just remain where you are, sitting. We'll talk about it later."
I nodded, increasingly restless. What did Victoria need? And what was within the realm of possibility if Tybalt was going to go and visit her?
As Tybalt began to go away, I grasped his arm. "Be careful," I whispered, struggling to manage the sounds.
He remained, his gaze skating over mine. "I will," he stated. "But I actually know that this is going to be a long night."
And with that, he stalked around and disappeared into the darkness, leaving me to wonder whatever I was seeing.
I was present, and I heard a hushed noise outside the den. It was whispering. And then, out of the blackness, appeared a woman, her eyes glazing into mine with a vicious glare.
"You're in big trouble, Sonia," she sneered. "Tybalt can't save you always."
