Chapter 5 - five

Jay ruffles his hair and sighs, putting me in perfect view of his tattoo.

"Jay?" I ask, unconsciously calling out my nickname for him.

"Jason." He replies briskly, immediately placing his hands down. It was almost as if he didn't want me to see the tattoo and I don't get why. I don't feel I should pry, besides I don't want him to feel I'm a busybody of some sort. I want him comfortable around me and I know I want him by me.

"You're new here," I tell him instead.

"Yeah." A stoic expression registers on his face.

"I had no choice." He says, then refocuses his eyes on me.

I sheepishly start taking a bite of my food, not wanting to ask any questions, I don't want to scare him away. There's just something about him that tells me there's more to it than meets the eyes when it comes to him. I'm sure if I stick around long enough maybe the mystery concerning Jason will be revealed.

"It tastes so good," I tell him, gesturing to the meal right in front of me.

He gives me a warm smile and doesn't say a word. Instead, he proceeds to take a bite of the meal in front of him too. We are both biting and chewing our food but all I can do is observe him. His clothes are designer, he is using the latest iPhone and everything about him screams money. This just made me recall the car I saw the other day. I'm not good with cars but I can tell his ride was expensive. It's obvious he's rich, he probably comes from a lot of money.

"Olivia." I hear a deep and calm voice call out. I instantly know who this is, it's Shane.

"I've been calling your number, seems you've been busy" he grunts. Glancing at Jason.

My phone must have been on silent because I hadn't heard it ring. I don't know why I do this unconsciously. I bring out my phone from my purse immediately, looking at the missed calls.

"I'm sorry it was on silent," I tell Shane, who doesn't say a word but proceeds to sit directly opposite Jason.

They are both seated opposite each other, while I'm in the middle of the both of them. Their eyes are both narrowed at each other, neither of them even saying a word for a second.

They both seem territorial and I don't get it. They look like two dogs that are about to go into a death fight or something like that if it makes any sense.

I don't see what the issue is because I feel Shane should be thankful Jason saved me, but instead, I can tell he feels threatened.

"Shane, this is Jason. I think you remember him"

"He's new here," I say, turning towards Jason. I could bet my life my side eye caught an eye roll from Shane.

"Thanks for helping my Olivia out." He says, then proceeds to rub my chin. His hazel brown eyes were focused on me and all of a sudden endearment registered on his face.

"I'd probably kill myself if anything happened to her." He ruffled my hair with a full grin across his features.

Shane's sudden character change is so weird, a minute ago I could swear he was jealous, and now all of a sudden he doesn't care? Anyway, I'm happy he's out of that mood because he and Jason need to get along. Jason is new and he doesn't know anyone around here, we need to be there for him because he helped me out.

Just before Jason was about to speak I heard a loud bang coming from the table right in front of us. A pair of feminine hands are placed on the table and I trace the slender arms to meet a familiar face. It's one of the blonde queens of the school. I wonder what she wants or what brings her here.

She looks over to me, feigning a grin. But I'm not the reason why she's here. Not more than two seconds later her eyes are on Jason before she begins to speak.

"I'm throwing a party at my place, later today." she clears her throat.

Jason doesn't even spare a glance at her, his piercing greens are just focused on me and how uncomfortable I feel during this moment.

"I would like to specially invite you." She adds, then giggles.

"It's just a way of welcoming you to Red Velvet High, you can mingle and get to know people since you're new here," she tells Jason.

His green eyes are still narrowed at me while she speaks, and she soon notices he's not paying any attention to her.

"Olivia is coming." She snorts, then abruptly turns towards me seeking my approval.

"Yeah, I guess, why not." I shrug, giving her my approval.

Jason glances at her and then he glances at Shane who also seemed to give his approval too.

I've never been to any of their parties ever, probably I've never been cool enough to attend. Shane has always been invited but he's never been interested in going places I wasn't welcomed. I've heard how crazy things get at those parties and I won't lie that I've always wanted to go. It should be fun either way.

"So pretty boy?" She narrows her eyes at Jason, who just shrugs. Having an impassive expression on his face.

She has a full grin on her face before she starts walking away and meets her other clique of friends. They keep looking at Jason while they giggle and squeak.

"I gotta go, Olivia," Jason tells me, and soon after he takes a glance at his phone. He gets up without saying a word and just leaves.

He seemed a bit pissed, I don't know if it had to do with the pretty blonde queens or if it was something else. But either way, I could tell he wasn't happy. Why do I feel there's a lot about Jason I still need to figure out?

"You really wanna go to the party?" Shane asks, soon after Jason is out of view.

"You've never been invited before, I personally don't feel those girls like you," he tells me, narrowing his hazel brown eyes at me. A soft smile gradually spread across his features.

"I feel they are indifferent towards me, so it doesn't matter if I go. Besides I've never been to one of their parties" I shrug.

"I just want to know what it feels like." I finish, my voice is soft and my eyes locked onto his brown eyes.

"We'll go if that's what you want" He replies.
