Chapter 1 - A Ruined City

A once vibrant city reduced to nothing.

"Look what he's done…"

One man's voice echoes below me.

I struggle to move my eyes and gaze upon his tattered clothing and bloodied body.

Looking down at my own body I see myself impaled with dozens of blades, spears, and arrows pinning me multiple meters in the air in a stationary position, while my legs sway in the wind. Blood leaks from the hundreds of small cuts along my torso and lower half.

Buildings reduced to pebbles and pieces of straw.

"This is going to be hell to fix…"

Another voice chimes in beside him.

Where bodies once stood remain only meaty chunks mixed into puddles of red.

[Move…]

My hand twitches.

[Get up…]

"He's still alive!?"

"What???"

[FIGHT!]

A roaring fury, deep within my soul, forces my body into overdrive.

Within an instant, my eyes enlarge; my body emits an overwhelming darkness.

"KILL HIM!"

The shadow grows more and more, covering at least a dozen yards in every direction of me.

The blades pinning me start to dissolve from the abyss enveloping them.

My knees hit the wet ground below, and my body begins to burn. The light returns as the darkness flickers away, a momentary ally now gone.

[It hurts…]

How many more times will I have to fight?

[It hurts so much…]

The glow around me disappears as a trio of blades, quicker than the light vanishing from me, come rushing for my neck.

A tear forms on my face.

Each blade is knocked away swiftly and precisely.

A longsword forms in my right hand, easily the same size as me, but it feels like a paper weight in my hand.

"SPACE OUT! DON'T GROUP UP!"

[Futile…]

I take a single step towards the man, my vision is foggy and everything seems a blur, yet my purpose is as clear as the reflection in my blades.

[Save her.]

With another step I close the substantial distance between us and slam my blade down in a downward strike.

The man quickly raises his two shortswords to block one of my longswords.

[The wind is shifting…]

The longsword retreats and quickly raises itself to block an oncoming greatsword aimed for my neck.

Our blades' collision caused a large shockwave, sending me stumbling a few yards back.

My mind is clouded, broken.

[Stop…]

More tears stream down my cheeks.

"Why the hell are you crying? Look what you've caused!!!"

Two shortswords penetrate my back and protrude out of my chest.

I feel nothing.

My eyes drop and my gaze softens.

"I'm sorry…"

The man clicks his tongue.

"So you finally speak?"

"I'm sorry… I'm sorry… I'm sorry…"

With my sword falling to the rocky terrain below, I grip the shortswords' blades and begin to pull them through my chest.

"What the hell…?"

He attempts to retrieve them from out of my back, where they originally entered, to no avail.

"A LITTLE HELP HERE?"

His voice is more annoyed than scared.

"On it!"

A secondary set of footsteps pace towards me with immense speed. The air around me parts way for his massive blade.

Yet, his attack fails to land.

The two shortswords pierce his chest, much like they did mine, yet this time I am the one attacking.

He scoffs while blood leaks from his mouth.

"Crazy bastard…"

I drive the blades deeper into the man as another set slashes at my back.

"JUST FUCKING STAY DOWN!"

More and more slashes carve endlessly along me as I finally let go of the set of swords in my hand.

I fall forward with a thud.

My body is numb, my mind exhausted and foggy.

Another thud echoes in front of me.

"Shit… At least he's down…"

The man steps closer from behind and drives his swords through my neck. Blood gushes out and paints the ground beneath me.

All is silent.

My mind fades away.
