Chapter 1 - The collision

AURORA'S POV:

Lumin city hall,8pm

Amid the flashing lights, thumping music and the cheering voices of the crowd.I couldn't focus on my favorite band's performance as it felt hollow ,and the bass synchronizing with the frantic beating of my heart.

I tried to process the news that had just been broken to me,my mum had just been diagnosed with stage four cancer and my worst fears had been realized.

My hands trembled as I held on to my phone,my mind racing through worst-case scenarios .

I pushed through the crowd hastily making my way towards the exits

The blur of the underground parking lot's lights made me realize the tears that had been falling nonstop from my eyes down to the corner of my lips .

I could feel the salty taste But I couldn't care less.'I need to get the hell out of here!'

I screamed in my head.

I started walking towards my car and the cheering crowds faded into the background with each step I took.I fumbled for my car keys with trembling hands, and pulled out of the parking spot.

A thud jolted me.

'Oh no,not now ' I thought in my head

I blinked,my eyes focusing on the dashboard.

Looking up,I could make out the silhouette of a tall frame alighting from the car I had just bumped into from my side mirror.

The knock on my side window jolted my memory

My face twisted with irritation,I lowered the window "watch where you are going"the tall figure bellowed at me.

"Maybe you should have had your brake lights fixed! "

I shouted back in anger.

In a swift motion I tossed my business card at him and said "call my insurance"and sped off almost immediately.

LIAM'S POV:

I stood at the edge of the crowd humming along the melody

'The thumping bass vibrated through my chest and I let the lyrics take over, letting go of my worries momentarily'.

Then I sighted her

A young woman stood out in the crowd, her fitted jeans hugged her curves, paired with a crop band tee and canvas sneakers which gave her a more effortless IT girl vibe.

Her hair was tied up in a bun and silver jewelry hung loosely on her tiny wrist as she gripped her phone tightly.

With a sudden movement, she turned and walked toward the exit.

Without thinking, I trailed after her our paths leading us to the parking lot.

I headed to my car, parked nearby hers.

As she reversed out of her parking spot, her car bumped into mine the impact jolting both vehicles.

"Looks like someone misjudged the distance"I thought, chuckling to myself.

I stepped out of my car and walked towards hers, expecting an exchange about the minor collision.

I knocked on the window,as soon as she rolled down the window, I said bluntly 'watch where you are going'.

I tried to sound stern but a hint of amusement crept into my voice.

As she rolled down the window, her irritated expression caught me off guard.I had expected an apology not annoyance.

"Maybe you should have had your brake lights fixed!"she shot back, catching me off guard.

She tossed her business card at me,accompanied by a curt"call my insurance!"

With that she sped off, leaving me standing there, card in hand with a feeling mix of surprise and curiosity.

'Interesting',I thought to myself with a weird smirk spreading across my face.

AURORA'S POV

Lumin city hospital,8:50pm.

I was in such a hurry that it wasn't until my GPS announced I had arrived at the the hospital that I realized I had reached my destination.

I pulled into the parking lot and headed towards the elevator,I pressed the button for the third floor, where my sister had informed me our mother was being administered emergency care.

As I stepped out of the elevator,I was greeted by the devastating look on my sister's face.

Annabelle,my younger sister by three years, was the surprise addition to our family after my parents initially decided to have only one child.

She worked as a runway model at a fashion house in the city.

With her pale looking skin, with piercing green eyes and long burgundy hair which makes her stand out in every event,I knew she had the perfect features fit for a model.

She couldn't take a walk without people looking twice, their gazes lingering on her striking features.

Her long eyelashes fluttered with tears making her look more fragile.

Her simple yet elegant dress complimented her skin and her long hair flowed down to her waist.

I could tell she was troubled, likely from the moment she heard of mom's discomfort.

I approached her and gave her a hug.

Overwhelmed she began sobbing continuously in my arms.

After a while, she composed herself and managed to fill me in on the details on how she had managed to get mom to the hospital despite her own panic and fear for mom's well being.

"Everything will be okay sis",I whispered reassuringly and she nodded in approval wiping the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes.

Later on,the doctor emerged from the room where mom was being treated.

He was a middle aged man with a kind face and a jet black hair with strands of grey hair.

He wore a crisp white coat and his eyes sparkled with compassion.

"How is my mom?,is she okay?,can I check on her now?,what is my mum's current condition?,what treatment is she receiving?"

I asked the doctor anxiously firing off questions in my worry state.

"Your mother is stable and we are doing everything we can to help her,we'll let you know as soon as we have more information so for now let's give her some space to rest".

The doctor replied,I breathe a sigh of relief and steeled myself for the next task:sorting out the medical bills.

I headed to the front desk to sort out the medical bills which only took a few minutes given our family's arrangement with the hospital.

Everything is taken care of",I said sitting down beside annabelle.

"Okay thanks, but what about mom?,do you think she'll be okay?"annabelle said with worry etched on her face.

" Mom is strong and she'll get through this"I said trying to reassure her that all is well even though I had my own concerns.

The front desk area hummed with activity,A flurry of white coats moving swiftly as hospital staffs tried to attend to patients. As we waited for the doctors next update,I squeezed Annabelle's hand and a feeling of hope washed over me.
