The Chunin exams start today, it seems I'm a tad bit early. I took an open seat in the back of the room. None of the nine rookies had arrived yet. Before I could pull in my chair I felt a knock on the top of my head.
"What the hell are you doing back here!"
Recovering from the sudden attack, I turned around to see a brown haired boy angrily staring at me. Who are you? I thought to ask but then Toros' memory kicked in.
Oh, he's just an irrelevant side character.I let out a sigh disturbed by my bad luck " Hey, idiot, do you really think now's the best time to draw attention to ourselves." I said, unable to hide my annoyance.
He's an insecure bully who failed the exams last year just like the previous owner of this body. I guess he's trying to quell some of his fears by messing with me but I'm nobody's punching bag!
"A weakling like you got a lot of nerve calling me that!" He barked.
"Oh, did I hit a sore spot? Well you know what they say 'if the shoe fits.'" I said, in a condescending tone.
His expression turned sour as my response had caught him guard. Suddenly, a gust of wind came in my direction. I tried to block the attack in time but my body's reaction speed lagged behind . I can't even dodge this pathetic attack! How'd the previous owner make it out of the academy?
Just before his fist made contact a familiar gray haired figure stepped in between us. " Now everyone, let's relax. I'm sure the two of you know what lies ahead. We'll need to conserve all the energy we have to pass the exams this year! "Kabuto said.
With pressure from Kabuto and the growing onlookers the boy had no choice but to back off "Yeah, whatever!" He said, walking back to his seat.
I thanked Kabuto to which he gave me a slight smile and walked off shortly after. If people only knew the decit behind that smile. Kabuto Orochimaru's best spy and most trusted pawn. I watched him work his way around the room making small interactions with the other shinobi. I laughed inwardly. He can't fool me with that nice guy act. I'll be sure to steer clear of him.
"Toro,there you are!" A girl with black hair tied into a bun greeted me. "Why are you sitting way back here?"
Her name is Hina Suzuki, she might be the one person in the Toros age group who hasn't joined in on the bullying of Toro. She's also one of his squad mates.
"Just wanted to scout the competition beforehand." I replied.
She shot me a puzzled look but only for a split second before going right back into a smile " That doesn't sound like you at all. " she said.
" I'm tired of failing, this chunin exam will be different. Oh, that reminds me here. " I handed her a paper note. "Open it up when you find Kuzan. Make sure only the two of you see it and destroy it afterwards." I whispered.
Hina nodded and skillfully grabbed the note without making a scene. " Looks like someone plans on passing the exams this time around." She said. "Well don't think you're the only one! I've got some new jutsus!" She announced proudly.
"I guess I better do my best to stay close to you on the field." I said.
"You better." She replied, walking off to her seat.
My other squad member is some arrogant kid who's never spoken anything but insults to me. I can't choose my teammates and I'll need him for the second exam.
After a few minutes the main cast showed up,I watched from afar the same scenes shown in the anime play out right in front of me. I only observed them I want to avoid any possibility of a butterfly effect. Although passing the chunin exams will cause some changes, hopefully minimal. Fortunately enough my interaction with Kabuto had to have happened offscreen because so far there hasn't been any changes.
