Max woke up in the Middle of woods and he started to bevelop a headache.
But when it was going away he remembered why he's in the middle of the woods.
He was investigating strange disappearances that was being caused by someone and when he found them he was about to finish him but instead he was engulfed by a portal.
Now he was in the middle of the woods he guessed that the portal led him here.
He got up and dusted his clothes and noticed crunching noises and turned and saw a girl with white hair and red eyes with a thick tail eating a boars.
She turned with blood in her mouth but she wiped the blood off her mouth and few over to him.
Moline: about time you woke up. You were out for a while.
Max: you can ridicule me later? Where are we?
Moline: no clue but we aren't going to get answer by just standing here let's go and find civilization and see where we are.
Max nodded at that and moline disappeared as he started to run around the woods to find civilization.
Two days later and he still hasn't found civilization he had to hunt animal to eat meanly boars who attacked him so he might as well eat them.
On the third day he sensed something nearby one was just a strange energy while the other energy had a corrupted feeling.
He followed to where it led and saw two boys one was a black haired boy and had a pendent.
While the other had ashen hair and green eyes and he had a sword that looked too big for him to carry.
But what caught his attention was the two books that were floating around one had green aura and one had a black and red aura.
However he saw that rocks were falling from a mountain and he decided to help the two boys.
He extended his arm and an black energy ball appeared in his hand and when he thought it was enough he fired it in a scatter shot matter and each shot destroyed the boulders.
The two boys were surprised by the sudden save and they turned to see max who had his hand extended.
Asta: hey! Thanks for the safe!
Max just nodded and he was about to walk away but he saw the books and his curiosity was peeked.
Max: hey! Can I ask on where you going I'm kinda lost.
Yuno: sorry but we don't have time for that.
Asta: oh come on yuno he's just asking for directions. We're going to the clover kingdom.
Max was confused about the term "kingdom" no body calls something kingdom unless it's in a video game or story based on the dark ages.
Max: okay where is it?
Yuno: how could you not know?
Max: I've been roaming around aimlessly and I lost my map.
Asta: oh really that sucks. Hey how about you tag with us we will help you get there safely.
Yuno: Asta.
Asta: come on Yuno the guy's lost and who knows maybe it will give us extra chances to pass the magic knight's entrance exam.
Max: (okay this is definitely not right)
Max: okay thanks for the offer I'll try not to cause problems for you two.
Max tagged along with the two and he learned a lot about where was he.
Apparently he's in a dimension that is based of the dark ages but more focused on magic instead of knights.
And the books that they have are their grimoires which amplifies their magic powers and one curious thing is that Asta doesn't have any magic and his grimoire in Yuno's words senses nothing from it.
So max is the only one who can sense the corrupted aura coming from the book since he's isn't just a human.
He was an exorcist.
He asked questions that to Yuno raised some red flags.
After finding out he's in another world he didn't took it well one night he was surrounded by boars that choice the wrong time to attack him.
He slaughtered everyone of them and took one to eat along with Yuno and Asta.
However when max asked them about their reason for becoming magic knights they answered with.
Asta/yuno: I want to be wizard king.
Max just said cool to that but internally he put together that the wizard king must be like the equivalent of the president of this world and he feels bad for both of them.
Because if they do become wizard king then that means that they will be stuck in an office with mountains of paperwork and manage the kingdom.
( like a certain blonde who became hokage ans look how that turned out)
Max decided that since he's stuck here he might as well become a magic knight because he feels like if he goes solo he will be considered a criminal.
Yuno and Asta asked him about where's his grimoire if he's planning to become a magic knight.
He told them that he had someone transfer it for him because he wanted to train his "magic" without the grimoire to amplify his control because he had some trouble because he's a late blumer
After a few days they finally made it to the clover kingdom and max had to admit the kingdom looked beautiful.
Asta: wow this place is so cool!
Yuno: yeah I didn't expect this place to be so big.
Max: well I'm going to get my grimoire see you two at the exam.
Asta: it was nice meeting you max.
Yuno watched max walking away and he felt that max was hiding something but it wasn't his business.
Max was walking through alleys with a plan.
He asked if he needed a grimoire to enter the exam and they answered with mostly yes.
So max is planning to find a criminal to steal his grimoire and pass it off as his because this an age that doesn't have identification systems so he's probably going to have an easy time getting away from getting in trouble.
Sure someone might say that stealing is wrong but in max's opinion it's fine to steal from criminals because they steel the thing first and if something as dangerous as a grimoire is in their hands it's better to get it away from it better then them causing trouble.
Luckily he heard a scream and saw a man riding a cloud zoom pass him and he smiled at his luck.
Max: checkmate.
He followed the theif until he stopped at an abandoned looking house he saw that the greedy thief was counting his steals.
Max stood for a few seconds and he guessed that he was invisible to the magic people here because Yuno said that he senses no magic from him.
He tapped the thief on the shoulder and when he turned max punched him hard enough to knock him out before he could reach.
He saw the grimoire on the floor and he picked it up and grabbed the holsters of theif.
Max: you won't be causing trouble anymore. See ya.
He walked away from the unconscious thief.
He was curious about what the grimoire had and he opened the book only to realize that the language in the book was something that wasn't English.
So since if he can't read it there's no point in trying to understand the grimoire.
But he decided to try something.
He put spiritual energy inside the grimoire and the black aura of spiritual energy surrounded the book but didn't react at all.
And max didn't feel a link between the two energies.
If he was to put it. It's like the two energies are basically invisible to each other and if one tries to touch the other nothing happens.
He guessed because mana and spiritual energy are two different energies.
One comes from the soul and the other is just natural energy.
But that aside he got to where the exam was taking place and he didn't see Asta or Yuno he guessed that both were already there.
When it was his turn luckily he was allowed access to the exam when he stepped foot in the arena he saw a man holding Asta by the head and from his screams it sounds like he's crushing his skull.
Max would admit Asta is a bit annoying but he was good people so he disappeared in a blur of speed and appeared next to the man and grabbed his wrist with a firm grip.
Max: i kindly ask you to get your hands off of him before I crush your wrist.
Yami looked at the boy beside him and he felt his killing intent and he can feel his wrist being crushed a little.
This peeked his interest because beside from the kid in his hand this one was more physically stronger.
Yami respecting the kid let go of Asta and in return max let go of his wrist.
Yami: make sure your friend watches were he's going.
After two mages wearing black robes walked towards Yami telling him that he wasn't supposed to be here and up in the podium.
After the captain of the black bulls from what the crowd called them max checked on Asta who looked like he was about to faint.
Max: you okay?
Asta: yeah. I just can't believe that I almost got my head crushed by a captain. That guy was super terrifying.
Max: I did you a solid for helping me but from here you're on your own.
Asta: that's fine I want to prove myself to the squad leaders anyway. So good luck max.
Max: thanks. You too.
Max walked away from Asta and when he found a good place to have his own space he decided to wait for the exam to begin.
And when it did he saw the squad captains looking down at them.literally.
After an introduction to the exam later and a magic trick everyone was given a broom to ride on like witches.
This made Max remember a moment when he was in early middle school he remembered seeing Mona dressing up as a witch for Halloween and she even had a broom though it was plastic.
They went to a park that was Halloween themed and they went to a ride that was based on the horses going in circles but it had skeletal horses instead and it had some brooms of course they were metal and not wood.
And when he tried it he his thighs were hurting along with his family jewels.
He shook his head from the memory and saw others flying on the brooms.
He looked back at his and remembered the pain his thighs and jewels.
Max: nah.
He threw the broom aside and he created black wings from his back and flew into the air with his black wings on display.
Everyone were surprised by the display and mutters began to spread.
Some think that he's another prodigy in magic.
Some think that he's some sort of monster.
While some think that he's cheating.
Nevertheless the captains were surprised by the the display.
Max saw Yuno flying in his broom like a board.
He flew over to talk to him.
Yuno: that's something you don't see everyday.
Max: call it my little gimmick.
Yuno looked at the grimoire in his waist and he looked at max.
Yuno: I thought you were going to use your grimoire?
Max: yeah between you and me I lied.
Yuno was about to press max but he noticed that Asta was struggling to fly his broom because he doesn't have any magic.
Max: I hate to sound like a dick. but he looks like he was taking a shit.
Yuno looked at Asta and a part of him wanted to help him by using his wind magic but he knew that Asta would say that he doesn't need his help.
The next test was to see how fluently the examines can control their magic.
Max just used his black arms and shaped them into claws and other weapons.
Everyone was gawking at max's black arms which were attached from the back of the elbows and captains were intrigued by his abilities and all of them noticed that he isn't using a grimoire.
Which was more of an incredible feat.
As once again Asta is struggling to keep up with the rest.
The next test was target practice max had no trouble because he only had to use an energy slash.
And he did this by getting out a small blade behind his belt and when everyone saw it they were surprised because most mages don't use weapons.
But that aside he slashed the air and an energy slash came out slicing the target and the wall behind it.
The target was cut sideways and it took a while before it fell off.
Once again everyone was surprised by the display.
The last test was a battle.
Asta fought some arrogant asshole and he declared that he's going to become wizard king.
Which everyone didn't take him seriously. However that aside it was yuno was next and like Asta he fought some who was arrogant.
But like Asta yuno easy beat that guy into submission.
Max was just minding his own business until some noble with red hair approached him with a smug look.
Noble: how about you face me I can see that you're abilities are quite unique. However.
The novel took out his grimoire and it showed a four leaf clover.
Noble: I have a four leaf clover so that naturally means I'm better than you. And honestly I hate-
The noble just realized that max was gone and he was in the middle of a circle of the croud and he had an uninterested look.
Max: are you going to keep talking? or are you going to face me?
The noble grew a vain on his forehead for being humiliated by some nobody.
They got to position and they were allowed to start the battle.
The noble's grimoire opened and he chanted.
Fire creation magic: hell rain!
A volley of fire ball shot at max and the noble thought that he wasn't going to be able to dodge it.
However to his surprise max appeared in front of him and he noticed the he wasn't scorched at all.
Max: here's a lesson just because your of high status doesn't mean jack to me and next time choose your opponent more carefully.
He extended his index and middle finger on to the noble's chest and he turned it into a fist and in an instant impacted his chest.
In a few seconds the noble was sent flying towards a wall above the crowd and everyone saw that the chest of the noble was bruised to the point that his skin turned purple and the noble had some blood coming out of his mouth.
Everyone was surprised that it took one blow to take out a noble much less someone who had a four leaf clover grimoire.
The captains were also surprised but only Yami looked indifferent however he was curious about max because he sensed no mana from him but still was crazy strong.
After the battles it was time for the captains to choose who will join their squads if two want the same person to join their squad said person will have to choose which squad to join.
As it went on some were chosen some didn't.
However when it was Yuno's turn all of the captains wanted him but he joined the golden dawns.
As for Asta he didn't get any offers and he didn't get down instead he shouted that no matter what it takes he will become wizard king.
But then max felt a strong presence and saw the guy who he now knows as Yami walking up to Asta.
After testing Asta's resolve Yami allowed him a position in his squad which is called the black bulls.
However while they were talking max looked at Asta's grimoire and when he enhanced his senses he felt a presence in the book.
And that wasn't a good sign.
When it was his turn like Yuno all of the captains wanted him but when he saw Yami putting his hand up he got what he wanted.
He's joining the black bulls just in case Asta is in trouble because that grimoire wasn't normal.
Max: I'm joining the black bulls.
