Chapter 1 - Introduction

On the vast horizon, where nothing could be seen as far as the eye could stretch, knelt a lone man clad in a black suit, draped in a shadowy cape, his pitch-black hair flowing with the wind...

A sword made of pure light was impaled through his chest. If anyone had seen him, they would've instinctively known—he was dead.

A cheeky smile crept across Vespar's face.

"Are they gone?" he asked.

"Well, I can't sense any presence… That means they're gone. Time to get up—my knees are starting to hurt."

With that, he stood, pulling the sword out of his chest as casually as someone swatting a fly. He patted the dust off his clothes.

"Hmm? You're still here?" Vespar tilted his head, looking directly at the readers.

(YES, you read that right—our guy can see you and talk to you.)

"Well hello! I'm Vespar Dawnshade, and I'm the protagonist of the book you're reading right now," he said with a genuine smile.

"So now that the intro's over, let's start the real story. Well… what you just saw was also the intro, but let's go back—to where it all began. The day everything changed."

Vespar opened his arms as if embracing the audience.

"Oh wait, wait! Here's some popcorn to enjoy while reading."

A large bucket of popcorn appeared out of nowhere, filled to the brim.

The True Start:

In the world of Aethoria—a mystic realm where ancient magic thrives, where lands bloom endlessly as if spring were working overtime—animals and magical beasts roam, so majestic they'd outshine the wildest imaginations of man.

Different races of intelligent beings call this world home. (More on that in later chapters.)

But don't be fooled—corruption, greed, and every dark emotion you can think of also exist here. Because where there is intelligence, there is the hunger to conquer.

And it's not just Aethoria—this is true for every realm with life.

But now… let's get back on track.

---

Vespar's eyes fluttered open.

He was staring at an unfamiliar ceiling.

He sat up suddenly—his mind foggy, his senses disoriented.

Where am I?

How did I get here?

He clutched his head, now throbbing with a sharp, splitting ache.

Looking around, he found himself in a small, cozy room with stone walls and a wooden floor. The bed beneath him was narrow but soft, with a feather-filled mattress. On a nearby table sat an ornate box, carved with symbols he couldn't recognize.

Suddenly, the door opened.

A woman entered.

Vespar's breath hitched.

She had long, flowing hair the color of a starry night, with little sparkles that shimmered as she moved. Her white dress flowed like liquid silk, dancing with an unseen wind. Her eyes... her eyes looked like galaxies, infinite and deep.

"Who are you?" Vespar asked, trying to keep his voice authoritative.

The woman smiled—calm, amused, and warm.

"I am Destiny," she said.

"And you, Vespar, are my special guest."

"Wait—Destiny? That's your name? Where am I? What do you mean by 'special guest'?" Vespar blurted, his face a picture of confusion.

"Hey, hey, don't panic," she chuckled.

"We've got all the time in the world. Literally. This place exists outside time and space—it's my personal leisure chamber."

She waved her hand.

In an instant, the room melted away.

They were now sitting in a lush garden. Two chairs and a tea table appeared, adorned with exotic confections and a steaming pot of tea.

Vespar blinked, overwhelmed.

This… this wasn't normal. Nothing about this was normal.

And then—

Thud.

He fainted.

"Oops," Destiny giggled.

"Guess that was too much info all at once. Fufu."
