"Training without talent is useless," Jiho thought while swinging his sword.

"496...497...498...499...500!"

After swinging his heavy, shiny metal sword 500 times, Jiho felt nothing but pain in his arms.

"What's the point of sword training if you don't have any magic affinity?"his halfbrother asked, tossing Jiho a towel.

Jiho looked at him and thought for a moment.

"Just so I can protect myself at least," he answered.

Junhoo gave him a pitiful look."But without magic, you can only hurt one-star beasts."

"So what? At least I'd have the choice to fight instead of running like a coward," Jiho said.

After wiping his sweat off, he walked back to the palace with his halfbrother.

Jiho was now alone in his room, changing clothes. While he got dressed, he noticed how small his room actually was just because he had only half royal blood. His father once loved a common woman, who died giving birth to him.

His family ruled one of the Four Regions.Jiho was the 13th son of the Pilath family and the first bastard.

Knock knock.

"Come in," Jiho said.

A knight from the Pilath family walked into his room and started reading something.

"Sir Jiho Pilath, you are hereby banned from the castle, under breach of Contract §34 of the Family Law."

Jiho's eyes widened in shock."But I'm still part of the family, right?" he asked, swallowing hard.

"§34 says: 'If a half-noble can't use magic, they are banished from the family.'"

Jiho trembled with rage and clenched his teeth.

After packing his things, he said goodbye to his halfbrother the only one he was close with since childhood. The others didn't talk to him at all. In their eyes, Jiho wasn't real family.

"I'll miss you!" Junhoo shouted at the castle gate.

Jiho waved at his only friend and left the palace.Night was falling, and he needed a place to stay.He decided to look for an inn.

When he entered a cheap and crowded inn, he went straight to the counter and asked about the price for a room.

Behind the counter stood a muscular, scruffy man with scars on his face. Jiho gulped.

The man gave Jiho a hard stare, then said,"One night costs 40 bronze coins."

Jiho checked his pouch he had only 3 silver coins left.

"That's enough for one week," he thought, handing over his coins and getting 20 bronze coins in return.

As he headed to his room, a skinny guy with long black hair and a red headband bumped into him.

The guy looked at him with attitude."You lookin' for trouble?"

Jiho looked serious."Yeah, I'm lookin' for trouble."

The man raised his fist to punch Jiho, but Jiho dodged at the last second and punched him in the stomach. The man's eyes went wide before he collapsed.

Everyone in the inn turned to stare.

"Yo, he just knocked out Black Joe!""No way who even is that guy?"

Jiho ignored them and walked to his room, embarrassed by the attention.

"Kicked out of my family, and now this..." he muttered while tidying up the room.

"I should just sleep," he thought, and lay down on the bed.

Knock knock.

Someone banged hard on the door.Jiho woke up, annoyed, and went to open it.

Before he could see who was there, someone pulled him out and shoved a smelly sack over his head.He tried to scream, but something hit the back of his head hard.

Jiho blacked out.

The last thing he remembered was being dragged away. The strangers threw him into a carriage and drove off to who knows where.
