Chapter 2 - Decisions

"Michael Stone", her mum replied almost in a whisper.

"Michael Stone" Sonia said to herself trying to figure who exactly he is.

" The CEO of Goshen group of companies" she widened her eyes as realization dawned on her. "She must be dreaming" she said to herself

"That can't be be mum", Sonia said, furrowing her eye brows. "I barely know him".

"I know, I know….. but you don't need years to know someone, you will get to know more about him when you get married to him.

"Mum, that doesn't make any sense, I've not seen him not to talk of having a proper conversation with him" Sonia said raising her eyes up

" I understand but after all, if knowing someone very well before getting married works exceptionally well then your dad and I that dated for 6 years before marriage, should have made the best couples and have the best marriage but how's our marriage now", Mrs Susan said hissing, her face showing bitterness.

"But mum…. everyone can't be dad, you know that right, if dad could leave after several years of dating, then how much this one I haven't even seen in person, not to talk of knowing any damn details about him except from what blogs say about him ", Sonia said trying to reason with her mum.

"Baby….. that shows that length or duration of knowing someone doesn't define how authentic or beautiful the relationship will be" Mrs Susan said holding Sonia's hands while gently pressing it.

"But mum..... we can't neglect the rumors too, I wouldn't want to end up with someone whose image is tarnished already" Sonia said

"What rumors Sonia", Mrs Susan asked becoming more attentive.

" The thing is that rumor has it that his reputation is not straight... he goes around sleeping with different women and that he's too proud, always having his shoulders high as if he's better than others", Sonia said in a shaky voice, swayed with emotions. How could her mum agree to such arrangement.

"They're just rumors baby, you know people enjoy tarnishing peoples image especially those more influential and better than them". Mrs Susan paused a bit

"He's really rich and he can take care of you and this family", Sonia's mum said in a convincing tone.

"You know how difficult things have been ever since that man called your father left", it's just you girls and I.

"But mum….. that doesn't still make any difference, we've been living fine, I work and we're comfortable", Sonia said.

"I know baby but all these burdens have been on you, I only contribute a peanut cos of the state of my work and you are still young and should have your own life.

"You wouldn't regret this, trust me on this, Sonia's mum said hanging her hand on Sonia's shoulder.

Sonia thought for a moment, using her right hand to support her jaw.

Not knowing what to think of, but she needed to get to a conclusion cos the only thing her mum would want to hear now is a positive answer.

The decision might benefit her though, Atleast she would be far away from her sister's troubles and nagging, something she had always wanted to do.

Maybe it was all for good anyway but she felt sad about the rush and everything.

"Alright mum, I'll marry him", she said in a quavering voice hoping she wasn't making a mistake.

"Thanks my baby", Mrs Susan said beaming with smile. "You'll definitely not regret this"

"So…. this should be our secret, your sister and dad shouldn't hear about this" Mrs Susan said with her face looking serious.

"But why mum, not telling dad is understandable but Becky…. she might find out and make a big fuss out of it", Sonia said giving a questioning gaze.

"You know how troublesome your sister can be so I wouldn't want her to cause any problems and there's no way she would find out if we play our cards well", Mrs Susan said in a convincing manner.

"Hmmm…..okay mum, I just hope this is for the best though", Sonia said.

"Sure baby….. just prepare this night, they'll be coming tomorrow to take you home". Mrs Susan said, giving her a peck and she leaves the room immediately feeling fulfilled.

Sonia furrowed her brow at the mention of tomorrow.

She kept mumbling the word "tomorrow" trying to digest it.

"What if she was making the wrong choice or what if she ends up regretting the whole arrangement or what is she didn't meet up to the standard the supposed husband wants"

she couldn't stop thinking of all these.

But anyways, she couldn't wait to meet her supposed husband in person.

She stood up, shifting the curtains to one side, she looked through the window gathering all her thoughts.

Just as she was there, she heard her name from parlour. She closed the curtains and rushed downstairs.

"Dinner is ready sweetie…" her mum said dishing out the meal at the dining table.

"Thank you mum" Sonia said helping out

"Becky is not yet back mum"? Sonia asked looking at the wall clock hung in the parlour.

"Hmm…. Not yet, haven't seen her since I came back", Sonia's mum said still focused on what she was doing

After dishing out the food for the both of them, they sat down to eat.

Sonia wasted no time and started digging into her food.

She has not eaten any proper meal since today and the only chance she had to eat, Becky already spoilt it so she couldn't help but eat hurriedly.

After the meal, she went to the kitchen and washed the dishes used and then retired to her room immediately.

She spent the remaining hours of the night arranging and packing some of the things that she will be going with as she will be leaving some things at home to prevent suspicion from Becky.

After much packing, she smiled to herself, giving herself a thumb up, feeling more satisfied and accomplished.

With signs of tiredness written all over her face, she laid on her bed and slept off.
