Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Truth Revealed

As Ava and Sophia began to work together, Lexi couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. She had always thought of Sophia as the enemy, and now she was supposed to trust her?

Ava seemed to sense Lexi's hesitation, and she turned to her with a reassuring smile. "I know it's hard to trust Sophia, Lexi," she said. "But I believe she's genuine. She wants to help us bring down the Blackwood family."

Lexi nodded, trying to keep an open mind. She knew that Ava was determined to bring down the Blackwood family, and if Sophia could help her do that, then maybe it was worth taking a chance.

Over the next few days, Ava, Sophia, and Lexi worked tirelessly to gather evidence and build a case against the Blackwood family. They spent long hours poring over documents and interviewing witnesses, and slowly but surely, they began to build a strong case.

But despite their progress, Lexi couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Sophia seemed to be holding back, and Lexi couldn't help but wonder what she was hiding.

One night, as they were working late in Ava's apartment, Lexi decided to confront Sophia. "Sophia, can I ask you something?" she said, her voice low.

Sophia looked up from the documents she was studying, a hint of wariness in her eyes. "Of course, Lexi," she said. "What is it?"

Lexi hesitated, unsure of how to phrase her question. "It's just that...I don't understand why you're helping us," she said. "You're a member of the Blackwood family. Why are you willing to betray them?"

Sophia's expression turned guarded, and for a moment, Lexi thought she saw a glimmer of fear in her eyes. "I'm doing it for Ava," Sophia said finally. "She's my daughter, and I want to protect her."

Lexi's eyes widened in shock. "Ava is your daughter?" she repeated.

Sophia nodded, a hint of sadness in her eyes. "Yes," she said. "Ava is my daughter. And I'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe."

Lexi's mind was reeling with shock and confusion. Ava was Sophia's daughter? How was that possible? And why had Ava never mentioned it before?

Ava seemed to sense Lexi's confusion, and she stepped forward, a look of explanation on her face. "Lexi, I'm sorry I never told you," she said. "I was trying to protect you, and myself. My family's secrets are complicated, and I didn't want to put you in danger."

Lexi nodded, trying to process the information. She could understand why Ava would want to keep her family's secrets hidden, but it was still a lot to take in.

Sophia stepped forward, her eyes locked on Lexi's. "I know this is a lot to take in, Lexi," she said. "But I want you to know that I'm committed to helping Ava bring down the Blackwood family. I've been trapped in this family's web of deceit for too long, and I want to make things right."

Lexi nodded, feeling a sense of determination rising up within her. She was in this now, and she was going to see it through to the end.

"Okay," she said. "I'm in. What's the plan?"

Ava smiled, a look of relief on her face. "We have a few more pieces of evidence to gather," she said. "And then we'll be ready to take our case to the authorities."

Sophia nodded, her eyes gleaming with determination. "We'll bring them down, Lexi," she said. "Together, we'll bring the Blackwood family to justice."

As they shook hands, Lexi felt a sense of purpose and determination. She was in this now, and she was going to see it through to the end.

But as they turned to leave, Lexi caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of her eye. A figure, lurking in the shadows.

She spun around, but there was no one there. Must have been her imagination, she thought.

But as they walked away, Lexi couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. And she knew that she wasn't going to be able to shake that feeling anytime soon.

As they walked away from the apartment, Lexi couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She kept looking over her shoulder, expecting to see someone lurking in the shadows.

Ava and Sophia seemed to sense her unease, and they walked closer to her, their eyes scanning the surrounding area.

"What's wrong, Lexi?" Ava asked, her voice low and concerned.

Lexi hesitated, unsure of how to explain the feeling of being watched. "I don't know," she said finally. "I just feel like we're being watched."

Sophia's eyes narrowed, and she glanced around the area. "I don't see anyone," she said. "But let's get out of here anyway. We can't be too careful."

They quickened their pace, walking rapidly through the streets until they reached a small café on the outskirts of town.

As they sat down at a table, Lexi felt a sense of relief wash over her. Maybe she had just been imagining things, she thought.

But as they ordered their coffee and began to discuss their plan, Lexi couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched.

And then, just as they were about to leave, Lexi saw him. A tall, dark-haired man standing outside the café, his eyes fixed intently on them.

Lexi's heart skipped a beat as she recognized the man. It was Julian, the head of the Blackwood family's security team.

"What's wrong, Lexi?" Ava asked, following her gaze.

Lexi's eyes locked onto Julian's, and she felt a sense of fear wash over her. "It's Julian," she whispered. "He's watching us."

Ava's eyes narrowed, and she stood up, her movements swift and decisive. "We need to get out of here," she said. "Now."

They quickly paid for their coffee and left the café, trying to blend in with the crowd. But Lexi could sense Julian's eyes on them, following their every move.

As they walked, Ava suddenly stopped and turned down a narrow alleyway. "This way," she whispered, grabbing Lexi's arm and pulling her along.

Sophia followed close behind, her eyes scanning the alleyway for any signs of danger.

As they walked, the alleyway grew narrower and darker, the buildings looming above them like sentinels. Lexi could feel her heart pounding in her chest, her senses on high alert.

Suddenly, Ava stopped and turned to face them. "We need to split up," she whispered, her eyes locked on Lexi's. "Julian will be looking for us, and we can't let him find us together."

Lexi nodded, her mind racing with the implications. "What's the plan?" she asked.

Ava hesitated, her eyes darting back and forth between Lexi and Sophia. "Sophia will go to the safe house and wait for us," she said. "Lexi, you'll come with me. We'll try to throw Julian off our trail."

Lexi nodded, her heart pounding with excitement and fear. She knew that she was taking a risk by going with Ava, but she also knew that she had to trust her.

As they split up, Lexi felt a sense of unease wash over her. She knew that they were being hunted, and that Julian would stop at nothing to catch them.

But she also knew that she wasn't alone. Ava was with her, and together, they would face whatever dangers lay ahead.

As they walked, Lexi glanced over her shoulder, half-expecting to see Julian lurking in the shadows. But there was no one there, and she breathed a sigh of relief.

They walked for what felt like hours, twisting and turning through the narrow streets of the city. Lexi's senses were on high alert, her ears straining to pick up any sound that might indicate they were being followed.

But there was nothing, and eventually, they reached the outskirts of the city. Ava stopped and turned to face Lexi, a look of determination on her face.

"We're almost there," she said. "Just a little farther."

Lexi nodded, her heart pounding with excitement and fear. She knew that they were taking a risk by going to the safe house, but she also knew that they had to try.

As they walked, the buildings grew farther apart, and the air grew thick with the scent of trees and grass. Lexi felt a sense of peace wash over her, and she knew that they were getting close.

And then, suddenly, they were there. A small, nondescript house stood before them, its door slightly ajar.

Ava pushed the door open and motioned for Lexi to enter. Lexi hesitated for a moment, her senses on high alert.

But then she stepped inside, her heart pounding with excitement and fear.

As Lexi entered the house, she was struck by its simplicity. The walls were plain, the furniture minimal. It was a place where someone could hide, where they could disappear from the world.

Ava followed her in, closing the door behind them. She locked it, the sound of the bolt clicking into place a reassuring one.

Lexi looked around, taking in the small kitchen, the single bedroom. It was a place where someone could live, but only just.

Ava seemed to sense her unease. "It's not much," she said. "But it's safe. We can stay here for a while, until we figure out what to do next."

Lexi nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She was tired, exhausted from the events of the past few days. She just wanted to rest, to feel safe.

Ava seemed to sense her fatigue. "You can sleep in the bedroom," she said. "I'll take the couch."

Lexi nodded, making her way to the bedroom. She collapsed onto the bed, feeling a sense of exhaustion wash over her.

As she drifted off to sleep, she was aware of Ava moving around the house, locking doors and windows, making sure they were safe.

Lexi slept fitfully, her dreams filled with images of Julian and the Blackwood family. She woke up to the sound of Ava moving around the kitchen.

She got out of bed, making her way to the kitchen. Ava was making coffee, the aroma filling the air.

"Morning," Ava said, smiling. "I made coffee."

Lexi smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Ava. "Thanks," she said. "I needed that."

As they drank their coffee, Lexi couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. They were safe for now, but she knew that Julian and the Blackwood family would not give up easily.

They would have to be careful, to stay one step ahead of their enemies. But for now, Lexi just wanted to enjoy the peace and quiet of the safe house.

As they finished their coffee, Ava stood up, a look of determination on her face. "We need to get to work," she said. "We have a lot to do if we're going to take down the Blackwood family."

Lexi nodded, feeling a sense of resolve wash over her. She was in this now, and she was going to see it through to the end.

Ava pulled out a small laptop and began to type away, her fingers flying across the keyboard. Lexi watched in amazement as Ava worked her magic, hacking into secure systems and gathering information.

"What are you doing?" Lexi asked, curiosity getting the better of her.

"I'm gathering evidence," Ava replied, her eyes fixed on the screen. "We need to build a case against the Blackwood family, and I'm trying to find as much information as I can."

Lexi nodded, impressed by Ava's skills. She had never seen anyone work a computer like that before.

As Ava continued to work, Lexi began to feel a sense of restlessness. She wanted to do something to help, but she didn't know what.

"Ava, can I do something to help?" Lexi asked, feeling a sense of frustration.

Ava looked up from the computer, a smile on her face. "Actually, yes," she said. "I need you to go through some files and see if you can find any connections between the Blackwood family and other organizations."

Lexi nodded, feeling a sense of purpose. She sat down at the table and began to sift through the files, her eyes scanning the pages for any clues.

As she worked, Lexi began to notice a pattern. The Blackwood family seemed to be connected to a number of other organizations, all of which seemed to be involved in shady dealings.

She pointed this out to Ava, who nodded thoughtfully. "That's what I was afraid of," Ava said. "The Blackwood family is just the tip of the iceberg. There's a much larger conspiracy at play here."

Lexi's eyes widened as she realized the scope of what they were dealing with. She had thought that taking down the Blackwood family would be a simple matter, but now she realized that it was just the beginning.

As they continued to work, Lexi couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. They were in over their heads, and she wasn't sure if they would be able to come out on top.

But she was determined to try. She was in this now, and she was going to see it through to the end.

As the day wore on, Lexi and Ava continued to dig deeper into the Blackwood family's connections. They uncovered a web of deceit and corruption that went far beyond what they had initially suspected.

As the sun began to set, Ava leaned back in her chair, a look of exhaustion on her face. "We've made some good progress today," she said. "But we still have a long way to go."

Lexi nodded, feeling a sense of determination wash over her. "We'll get there," she said. "We just need to keep pushing forward."

Ava smiled, a look of gratitude on her face. "Thanks, Lexi," she said. "I don't know what I would do without you."

Lexi smiled back, feeling a sense of camaraderie with Ava. "You'll never have to find out," she said.

As they packed up their things and prepared to call it a day, Lexi's phone suddenly rang. She hesitated for a moment, wondering who it could be.

"Answer it," Ava said, a look of curiosity on her face.

Lexi nodded, picking up the phone. "Hello?"

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Lexi wondered if anyone was there.

Then, a low, gravelly voice spoke up. "Lexi, it's Marcus," the voice said. "I've been trying to reach you all day."

Lexi's heart skipped a beat as she heard Marcus's voice. She had been wondering what had happened to him, and now she finally had her answer.

"Marcus, where are you?" Lexi asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

There was another pause, and for a moment, Lexi wondered if Marcus was okay.

"I'm in hiding," Marcus said finally. "I had to get out of there, Lexi. The Blackwood family is getting desperate, and I knew I had to get out before it was too late."

Lexi's eyes met Ava's, and she could see the concern etched on Ava's face.

"Where are you?" Lexi asked again, trying to get as much information as possible.

There was another pause, and then Marcus spoke up. "I'm at a safe house," he said. "But I need to see you, Lexi. I need to tell you something in person."

Lexi's heart skipped a beat as she heard Marcus's words. What did he need to tell her? And why did he need to tell her in person?

"Okay, Marcus," Lexi said finally. "I'll come to see you. But you have to promise me one thing."

"What's that?" Marcus asked, his voice cautious.

"You have to promise me that you'll be careful," Lexi said. "The Blackwood family is not to be trusted, and I don't want anything to happen to you."

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Lexi wondered if Marcus was okay.

"I promise, Lexi," Marcus said finally. "I'll be careful. But you have to promise me one thing too."

"What's that?" Lexi asked, her heart pounding in her chest.

"You have to promise me that you'll come alone," Marcus said. "I don't want anyone else to know where I am, Lexi. Not even Ava."

Lexi's eyes met Ava's, and she could see the concern etched on Ava's face.

"Okay, Marcus," Lexi said finally. "I'll come alone. But you have to promise me that you'll tell me everything when I get there."

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Lexi wondered if Marcus was okay.

"I promise, Lexi," Marcus said finally. "I'll tell you everything. Just come alone, and come quickly."

And with that, the line went dead.

Lexi's heart was racing as she hung up the phone. She felt a sense of unease wash over her, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.

Ava looked at her with concern. "What did Marcus say?" she asked.

Lexi hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "He wants me to meet him at a safe house," she said finally. "He says he has something important to tell me."

Ava's eyes narrowed. "Did he say what it was?" she asked.

Lexi shook her head. "No, he didn't. But he said it was something he had to tell me in person."

Ava's expression turned thoughtful. "I don't like this," she said. "It sounds like a trap."

Lexi felt a surge of fear at Ava's words. Could Marcus be setting her up? She didn't think so, but she couldn't shake the feeling of unease.

"I have to go," Lexi said finally. "I have to know what Marcus wants to tell me."

Ava's eyes locked onto hers. "I'm coming with you," she said.

Lexi shook her head. "No, Ava. Marcus said I had to come alone."

Ava's expression turned stubborn. "I don't care what Marcus said," she said. "I'm not letting you go alone. It's not safe."

Lexi felt a surge of gratitude towards Ava. She knew that Ava was only trying to protect her, but she also knew that she had to do this alone.

"Ava, please," Lexi said. "I have to do this. I have to know what Marcus wants to tell me."

Ava's expression softened, and she nodded. "Okay, Lexi. But be careful. If anything feels off, get out of there immediately."

Lexi nodded, feeling a sense of determination wash over her. She was going to find out what Marcus wanted to tell her, no matter what.

As she turned to leave, Ava called out to her. "Lexi, wait!"

Lexi turned back to Ava, who was holding out a small device. "Take this," Ava said. "It's a tracking device. If anything happens, I'll be able to find you."

Lexi took the device, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Ava. She knew that Ava was only trying to protect her, and she appreciated it.

As she left the safe house, Lexi felt a sense of trepidation wash over her. She was walking into the unknown, and she had no idea what would happen next.

But she was determined to find out.

Lexi made her way to the address Marcus had given her, her heart pounding in her chest. She had no idea what to expect, but she was determined to find out what Marcus wanted to tell her.

As she approached the building, she noticed that it was an old warehouse on the outskirts of town. The windows were boarded up, and the door looked like it hadn't been used in years.

Lexi's instincts told her to turn back, but she steeled herself and pushed open the creaky door. Inside, the warehouse was dimly lit, with only a few faint lights flickering overhead.

"Marcus?" Lexi called out, her voice echoing off the walls.

There was no response, and Lexi felt a surge of fear. Had she walked into a trap?

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows. It was Marcus, his eyes gleaming with a mixture of fear and determination.

"Lexi, thank God you're here," he said, his voice low and urgent. "I have something to tell you, something that could change everything."

Lexi's heart was racing as she followed Marcus deeper into the warehouse. What could he possibly have to tell her that was so important?

As they walked, Lexi noticed that the warehouse was filled with rows of computers and servers, humming with activity. It looked like some kind of makeshift command center.

"What is all this?" Lexi asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.

Marcus hesitated, his eyes darting nervously around the room. "This is the Blackwood family's secret operation," he said. "They've been using this warehouse to hack into the city's infrastructure, to manipulate the system and gain control."

Lexi's eyes widened in shock. "That's impossible," she said. "The city's infrastructure is too secure."

Marcus shook his head. "You'd be surprised what the Blackwood family is capable of," he said. "They've been planning this for years, and they're getting close to achieving their goal."

Lexi felt a chill run down her spine. She had no idea that the Blackwood family's ambitions were so grand.

"What do you want me to do?" Lexi asked, her voice firm.

Marcus's eyes locked onto hers. "I want you to help me stop them," he said. "We can't let them succeed. We have to take them down."

Lexi nodded, her heart pounding with determination. She was in this now, and she was going to see it through to the end.

Lexi's eyes locked onto Marcus's, and she nodded firmly. "I'm in," she said. "What's the plan?"

Marcus smiled, a look of relief washing over his face. "I've been working on a way to shut down their operation," he said. "But I need your help to make it happen."

Lexi nodded, her mind racing with questions. "What do you need me to do?" she asked.

Marcus hesitated, his eyes darting nervously around the room. "I need you to hack into the city's mainframe," he said. "We need to get access to the system so we can shut down the Blackwood family's operation."

Lexi's eyes widened in surprise. "You want me to hack into the city's mainframe?" she repeated.

Marcus nodded. "I know it's a big ask, but I know you're the only one who can do it," he said. "You're the best hacker I know, Lexi. And I need your skills to make this happen."

Lexi took a deep breath, her mind racing with the implications. She had always been careful to stay on the right side of the law, but this was different. This was about taking down the Blackwood family and stopping their evil plans.

"Okay," she said finally. "I'll do it. But we need to be careful. If we get caught, we'll be in serious trouble."

Marcus nodded, a look of determination on his face. "I know," he said. "But we have to try. We can't let the Blackwood family win."

Lexi nodded, her heart pounding with excitement and fear. She knew that this was a risk, but she was willing to take it. She was in this now, and she was going to see it through to the end.

As they began to make their way to the city's mainframe, Lexi couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. What would happen if they got caught? What would happen if they succeeded?

She pushed the thoughts aside and focused on the task at hand. She was a hacker, and she was about to take on the biggest challenge of her life.

As they approached the mainframe, Lexi's heart began to pound in her chest. This was it. This was the moment of truth.

She took a deep breath and began to work her magic. Her fingers flew across the keyboard, and the screen began to glow with code.

Marcus watched in awe as Lexi worked her magic. He had never seen anyone hack into a system so quickly and easily.

As they worked, Lexi's mind was racing with thoughts of the Blackwood family and their evil plans. She was determined to stop them, no matter what it took.

And then, just as they were about to gain access to the system, Lexi's phone rang. She hesitated for a moment, wondering who it could be.

But as she looked at the screen, her heart sank. It was Ava.

"Lexi, where are you?" Ava's voice was urgent and worried.

Lexi hesitated, unsure of what to say. She didn't want to lie to Ava, but she couldn't tell her the truth either.

"I'm...I'm just out running some errands," Lexi said finally.

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Lexi wondered if Ava had bought her story.

But then Ava spoke up, her voice firm and commanding. "Lexi, I know you're not telling me the truth," she said. "And I'm going to find out what's going on. You can count on it."

Lexi's heart sank as she listened to Ava's words. She knew that she had been caught in a lie, and she didn't know how to get out of it.

"I...I can explain," Lexi stuttered.

But Ava cut her off. "No, Lexi, you can't explain," she said. "At least, not yet. First, I need to know that you're safe. Where are you?"

Lexi hesitated, unsure of what to do. She didn't want to lie to Ava again, but she also didn't want to put Ava in danger.

"I...I'm with Marcus," Lexi said finally.

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Lexi wondered if Ava had hung up on her.

But then Ava spoke up, her voice cold and detached. "I see," she said. "Well, in that case, I need to talk to Marcus."

Lexi hesitated, unsure of what to do. She didn't want to hand the phone over to Marcus, but she also didn't want to disobey Ava.

"Okay," Lexi said finally, handing the phone over to Marcus.

As Marcus took the phone, Lexi could see the tension in his body. He knew that Ava was not happy, and he was preparing himself for a confrontation.

"Hello, Ava," Marcus said, his voice calm and respectful.

Lexi couldn't hear Ava's response, but she could see the look of concentration on Marcus's face. He was listening intently, trying to gauge Ava's mood.

After a few moments, Marcus spoke up again. "I understand, Ava," he said. "And I agree. We need to be careful. But we also need to take action. We can't just sit back and do nothing."

Lexi's eyes met Marcus's, and she could see the determination in his eyes. He was willing to take risks to stop the Blackwood family, and he was willing to face Ava's wrath to do it.

As Marcus continued to talk to Ava, Lexi couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for him. He was brave and determined, and he was willing to stand up for what he believed in.

But as she listened to Marcus's words, Lexi also couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. What would happen if Ava didn't agree with their plan? What would happen if they got caught?

As the conversation continued, Lexi's anxiety grew. She knew that they were taking a risk, and she wasn't sure if it was worth it.

But as she looked at Marcus, she knew that she had to trust him. She had to trust that he knew what he was doing, and that he would keep her safe.

As the conversation finally came to an end, Lexi felt a sense of relief wash over her. They had a plan, and they were going to take action.

But as she looked at Marcus, she could see the seriousness in his eyes. They were in this now, and there was no turning back.

As Marcus hung up the phone, he turned to Lexi with a serious expression. "Ava is not happy," he said. "But she's agreed to let us continue with our plan."

Lexi nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She had been worried that Ava would try to shut them down, but it seemed like she was willing to give them a chance.

"What's the plan?" Lexi asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.

Marcus smiled, a look of determination on his face. "We're going to hack into the Blackwood family's system and gather evidence of their wrongdoing," he said. "And then we're going to take that evidence to the authorities and bring them down."

Lexi's eyes widened in excitement. She had never been part of something so big and important before.

"But we have to be careful," Marcus warned. "The Blackwood family is not going to go down without a fight. We need to be prepared for anything."

Lexi nodded, feeling a sense of determination wash over her. She was ready to do whatever it took to bring down the Blackwood family and stop their evil plans.

As they began to make their way back to the safe house, Lexi couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. They were on the verge of something big, and she was honored to be a part of it.

But as they walked, Lexi noticed that Marcus seemed a bit off. He was quiet and distracted, and she could tell that something was bothering him.

"Hey, Marcus, is everything okay?" Lexi asked, her concern getting the better of her.

Marcus hesitated for a moment before answering. "I don't know, Lexi," he said. "I just have a bad feeling about this. Like something is going to go wrong."

Lexi's heart skipped a beat as she heard Marcus's words. She had been feeling a sense of unease all day, and now Marcus was feeling it too.

But she pushed her fears aside and tried to reassure Marcus. "We'll be fine, Marcus," she said. "We have a good plan, and we're prepared for anything. We just need to stick together and trust each other."

Marcus nodded, looking a bit more reassured. But Lexi could tell that he was still worried, and she couldn't blame him. They were taking a big risk by going after the Blackwood family, and there was no guarantee that they would succeed.

As they continued on their way, Lexi couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. Would they be able to bring down the Blackwood family and stop their evil plans? Or would they fail, and suffer the consequences?

Only time would tell.

As they approached the safe house, Lexi could feel a sense of unease settling in. She had a feeling that they were being watched, and she couldn't shake the sensation.

Marcus seemed to sense her unease, and he placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "We're almost there," he said. "Just a little farther."

Lexi nodded, trying to push aside her fears. But as they turned the corner onto the street where the safe house was located, she saw something that made her heart skip a beat.

A black SUV was parked outside the safe house, its engine running. Lexi's instincts told her that something was wrong, and she grabbed Marcus's arm, holding him back.

"What's wrong?" Marcus asked, his eyes scanning the street.

Lexi nodded towards the SUV. "That," she said. "It's been following us. I'm sure of it."

Marcus's eyes narrowed, and he pulled out his phone. "I'll call Ava," he said. "She'll know what to do."

But as he dialed Ava's number, Lexi could feel a sense of dread building inside her. They had been so careful, so meticulous. How had they been found?

And then, just as Marcus was about to speak to Ava, the SUV's door opened, and a figure stepped out.

Lexi's heart skipped a beat as she saw who it was. Julian Blackwood, the head of the Blackwood family's security team, was standing on the sidewalk, his eyes fixed intently on them.

"It's too late," Lexi whispered, her voice trembling with fear. "They've found us."

And with that, everything went black.
