Cane, Hunter, and, Kate climb to the roof of the inn through the window of there room. As they hop from roof to roof a sudden cloud of smoke pops up from the inn. "Damn it, can't they have gone two seconds withought ruining there half of this mission.", Kate says.
Cane stops for a second to look back but resumes forwards again with little worry. "It's fine as long as they get the horses without dieing. Just focus on our part, and let them handle it however they want."
As the continue to travel through the rooftops they see gaurds rushing through the streets twords the inn, a few stopping to surround the stables. Cane's mood shifts a bit noticing the hightened amount of gaurds and quick response time to the commotion. "Be cautious, something here is giving me a weird feeling. I don't like it"
"What's wrong captain", Hunter asks.
"Something isn't right about the guards, they seems surprisingly organized for a little bit of smoke." As Cane speaks, a small explosion comes from the direction of the stables. "Shit, we don't have time to check on them. They haven't set off the patch so they should be fine".
The three of them approach the ally behind two green houses designated as the drop off point. "There he is. Hunter, you stay up top. Kate your with me". Kate and Hunter nod as they take on the respective roles.
Cane and Kate head down the wooden ladder placed on the side of the roof. The ally was dark and wet, at the end the person they came to meet stand shrouded in the darkness of the night. When they approach the man turns around to reveal his face. Cane and the man stared at each other intensely for a few seconds.
"Cane! My old friend", the man says, changing suddenly into a cheerful smith. "Long time no see". Can walks twords him, shaking his hand as he smiles at an old friend. "Hay Lesh, It has been a while hasn't it". "Sure has". Lesh answers back, "what was it, a year since you've been to town. I see you haven't gone and got yourself killed". "Yah I'm still here, for the much good it's done the world, anyway we need the information so we can get out fast. As you can tell are friends have already made an impression."
"Yeah I noticed all the commotion and wondered if it was you guys". leash says looking a little down. He reaches into is pocket and pulls out two small white envelopes. One of them is sealed with plain wax while the other was sealed with a strange red seal. "I wish we could have talked longer, but you got your missions I guess."
"What are you doing with an envelope from the southern kingdom", Cane asked.
"I'm supprised you know the seal. It's classified information. You need to get to your superior. I know it's not the information you came here for but a lot of peoples died to get that to your hands", Lesh said with a serious expression.
"I'll make sure it gets back to command. Thank you for the information". Cane said as he firmly shakes Lesh's hand.
"We should get going. You should too Lesh. Something feels off this time and I'd feel better the sooner we got this over with."
After speaking, Lesh leaves, sneaking into one of the nearest buildings. As Cane hands the letters to Kate a sudden explosion shakes the ground and light up the night sky.
"That came from the city entrance. We need to go". Hunter yelled down to Cane from the rooftop. After the explosion the stress become alive with gaurds. Hunter turned his head to the sound coming from the city streets "Shit, We got more problems headed are way"
As gaurds start filtering into the ally, Cane and Kate quickly climb up the ladder. It's wooden rungs barley holding on as they climb as fast as they can to the roof. The footsteps of the gaurds gets louder eventually becoming visibls to the group as the reach the ally they stood in moments ago. A few of the gaurds spot them on the roof but before any could follow Cane breaks the ladder by slashing downwards. The ladder falls in two on the ground as Cane, Hunter, and Kate escape by hoping to different rooftops.
"Shoot them down", one of the gaurds ordered as the gave persute on the ground. The sound of musket fire rung out twords the group. The darkness of the night giving them cover as they hop between buildings.
"How did they know where we were", kate asked confused and anxious. "It's not like we didn't expect a little difficulty but it's almost like they knew."
"I know". Cane said as he leaps to another roof. "I figured something was off when they surrounded the stables. I thought it was just a valid response to whatever Raphand Jack did, but the alleyway was to accurate to be chocked up to good leadership and reasonable response. They new we would be there". Cane said with anger on his face. "For now we need to re-group and get back to base".
Musket balls and arrows continue to fly closer twords them as the black of night slowly turns to the orange and pink of dawn.
Cane and Hunter easily make it over the last house before the city's rear gate, but as Kate jumps to cross an arrow hits her shoulder causing her to fall short of the ledge.
"Crap", Cane says as he turns back to see Kate just bearly holding to the ledge. "Take the letters and meet up with Jack and Raph at base. I'll get Kate and catch up with you later"
Hunter looks at Cane about to say something in protest. Cane shakes his head and ripped the patch from his shoulder. "Go, now. That's an order"
"Yes sir", Hunter says as he leaps from the roof to the town wall.
Cane quickly runs back to check on Kate and finds her still barely hanging on. He quickly grabs her arm and pulls her up. She screams in pain from the arrow piercing her shoulder blade. Cane grabs a few leaves out of his bag and tells Kate to chew them as he carries drags her further from the edge of the roof. Guards surround the building as they try to make there way onto the roof.
Cane grabs spair cloth from his bag and wraps it around her wound cutting off the parts of the arrow that poke through.
"You'll be fine", He says to Kate as he looks for a route of escape. A cave on the nearby hillside catches his attention. "Can you manage to cast invisibility for at least a minute". Cane says to Kate.
Withought words she picks her wand up and mumbles a spell under her breath. Blood drips down her hand staining the white wood that made up her wand. After the spell was done she started to cough up blood. Quickly Cane picked her up and used all his strength to leap, he manages to land on the top of the town wall.
"Shit. This is going to hurt". He says as he jumps of the wall. It's wasn't particularly high but underneath was only a stone path that winded around the city. As Cane crashed into the stones his legs was injured heavily and a deep wound formed on the arm used to shield Kate.
With little time remaining till the spell wore off, Cane carried Kate all the way to the caves entrance. It wasn't big, probably an old mine or cleared out dungeon. He Moved inwards twords the nearest and most useable crevice he could find. He finally takes a second to breath as he sets Kate against the cold stone wall. "I've been in worse", He says as he looks twords his shattered leg.
