Chapter 79 - The Eye Behind the Mirror

Valemir at night was a city of reflections—neon lights bouncing off glass towers, secrets buried under glittering façades. But in the heart of the storm, both Chess and Elsa were closer to the truth than ever.

Aeris Holdings – The Veil Command Core

Beneath the impressive skyscraper that housed Aeris Holdings' HQ was a hidden chamber few knew existed. It wasn't on any floor plan. It didn't appear on any digital map. But it was real—and alive with data, movement, and quiet chaos.

Chess stood in front of a massive vertical screen as lines of code crawled upward like endless equations. Devon stood beside him, projecting feeds from Valemir's grid.

"We've confirmed the presence of a silent node," Devon said. "Hidden behind a dummy law firm in Old Marston. It's linked to Kip's private neural ledger. Only two people had access—Kip... and someone listed only as 'Nyra.'"

Chess's eyes narrowed.

"Nyra?"

"We don't have a face. No history. Just encrypted command strings. But the activity resumed two days ago—after Kip's expulsion."

Chess folded his arms. "Then he's not alone. And this Nyra… could be the spider behind the web."

"Do we strike now?"

Chess shook his head. "Not yet. If she's real, she'll show her hand soon."

Devon leaned in. "What's our play then?"

Chess turned to her with a glint in his eye.

"We draw her out—through Elsa."

Jefferson Global – The Next Morning

Elsa strode into the newly cleansed boardroom. Her team now tighter, leaner—no deadweight. The air was lighter, as if the company itself had exhaled after a long time.

But her assistant, Nia, approached with urgency.

"Elsa… someone dropped this envelope at the reception. No name. No sender. Just for you."

Elsa took it cautiously, slicing it open with her fingernail.

Inside was a single card—black with a red wax seal.

One word, handwritten in crisp calligraphy:

"Nyra."

She froze.

"Get me security footage," she ordered. "Now."

Later – Private Briefing Room

Elsa sat with Chess, the card between them.

"So she's real," Elsa murmured.

Chess nodded. "And watching."

"You think Kip was just the front?"

"I'm sure of it now," he said. "He had ambition, yes. But not this level of coordination. Someone with real resources was behind him."

Elsa tapped the card. "And now they're taunting me?"

"They're studying you. Testing boundaries."

She stood, pacing the room. "Then I'm done reacting."

Chess watched her with admiration. "What do you have in mind?"

"A trap," she said coolly. "If this Nyra wants to play shadow games, let's give her a spotlight."

That Night – An Invitation Sent

Across Valemir's encrypted net, a signal was released—subtle, elegant, and laced with intrigue.

A gala invitation.Private. Exclusive. Hosted by Jefferson Global.Theme: Rebirth and Revelation.

And stitched beneath the details, a signature only someone in the shadows would understand:

"All Queens rise from fire. Let's see who still burns."

Somewhere Far Off – Unknown Location

A woman sat at a vanity desk, a long black veil draped over her shoulders. The screen before her displayed Elsa's invitation.

Nyra's red lips curled.

"She thinks she's ready," she whispered.

Her voice was as smooth as velvet... and just as dangerous.

"Let's see what this new Queen is really made of."

She stood, heels clicking across the marble floor, as monitors around her showed looping images of Chess, Elsa, and the board members.

Behind her, a single digital thread pulsed on the screen.

"Phase Two: Initiate."

Back at the Penthouse – Elsa's Suite

Chess leaned on the balcony rail as Elsa approached from behind, her arms wrapping around his waist.

"Do you ever miss the quiet life?" she asked softly.

He chuckled. "This is my quiet life."

They both laughed, the weight of war momentarily suspended.

"You've changed," he murmured, turning to face her. "There's fire in your eyes now. Purpose."

"You gave me room to awaken," she replied. "Now I'll give you something back—my trust."

He touched her cheek. "And I'll protect it with everything I have."

They kissed—not out of heat or desperation, but with steady assurance.

Whatever storm waited ahead, they would face it together.
