Chapter 5 - 5

Kael stepped through the portal, feeling an odd sense of weightlessness before his feet touched solid ground. He was no longer in the oppressive heat of Hell, but instead, a much quieter place, a better place . The world around him was still and silent.

The room he found himself in was simple. He could immediately tell it was a house—nothing particularly grand, just a modest living space. But what struck him the most was the disturbing scene he had walked into. The floor was stained with blood, and in the center of the room, the lifeless bodies of two adults lay sprawled, their features frozen in terror. The child however , was nowhere to be seen, though something about the scene made it clear that the demon he had followed had killed them.

Kael didn't blink and tried to look elsewhere , trying to ignore the grim sight. He had been human once, and while he had never seen the world of mortals from this perspective, he knew enough about them to understand the tragedy of what had just happened.

The portal behind him was already closing, the swirling darkness contracting with a soft hiss until it vanished entirely. Kael glanced at the spot where it had been and felt a pang of finality. There was no going back. He was here now, and that was all that mattered.

His mind immediately began to work, trying to come up with a plan. This was the human realm—a world he had once been a part of. The question now was, how could he survive here without revealing what he truly was?

Kael turned his attention back to the room, noticing a closet in the corner. Without hesitation, he moved toward it, the soft sound of his footsteps barely audible in the quiet space. He opened the closet door and, after a quick glance, found clothes neatly arranged inside. It was as if the house had been waiting for him, though he knew that wasn't the case. The clothes looked like something a human would wear—plain, simple. Perfect for blending in.

He quickly changed, donning the dark hoodie and jeans that were waiting for him. Kael had no intention of drawing attention to himself. After all, if the humans found out what he really was, it would be disastrous. No, he had to live among them as one of them. He had to stay hidden.

His gaze then fell on something that caught his attention—a phone. Kael had seen these devices before, and although he hadn't used one in a long time, he remembered how they worked. Humans used these to communicate, to call for help when they needed it. That's exactly what he needed: a way to fit into their world, to play the role of someone who had just experienced something terrible.

He picked up the phone, the date December 12, feeling the cool surface against his fingers as he dialed the emergency number—911. He knew what to do. His voice, though steady, carried just the right amount of fear as he spoke.

"Hello? I don't know what happened… I—I was attacked. There was a monster… I don't know what to do. Please, I need help. I'm scared."

The operator on the other end responded immediately, asking for his location and told him to hide. Kael knew what to say. He had already memorized the surroundings of the house when he entered. After a brief exchange of words, he told them everything they needed to know, his voice trembling as if he were genuinely shaken.

"I'm hiding. Please, hurry... I'm afraid it's going to come back."

He could hear the operator's assurances on the other end, but Kael didn't wait for more. He hung up the phone quickly, setting it back down. His heart still beat steadily, the adrenaline fading into a strange calm.

Now, Kael needed to think and plan about what to do. The last thing he wanted was that the humans would know he' s a demon before he could establish a safe routine. He glanced around the room once more, taking in the grim reality of the place. The dead bodies of the two adults—the parents—lay forgotten, and though Kael felt no particular attachment to them, he couldn't help but feel the weight of their deaths. The demon had left no trace of mercy. But Kael would not make the same mistake. He couldn't afford to be careless.

He moved swiftly into the closet, crouching down and hiding behind a stack of clothes. It was a cramped space, but it was better than being out in the open. He remained completely still, watching the door as if any moment someone might burst in, but Kael didn't fear capture. He had learned long ago how to stay calm, a skill needed to survive in hell or in other words "Makai" . That skill was one of the few advantages he had carried with him into this life.

For now, he could only wait. Wait for the humans to arrive. Wait for his new life to begin.

Kael felt a strange sense of satisfaction in his decision. He had no idea what was coming, but he knew that living as a human would require patience, caution, and above all, silence. His powers would remain a secret that only he knows about . The world outside was vast, and there was time to learn how to navigate it. And maybe, just maybe, Kael could find some semblance of peace here.

He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. This was his new world now. And he would survive in it, hidden in plain sight.
