Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Record-Breaking

Ye Chuan joining the student council naturally became known to the entire freshman class. However, no one gossiped about it. With the title of freshman representative, although some people envied Ye Chuan's student council benefits, they didn't think he had used any backdoor connections.

After the afternoon classes ended, an impatient Ye Chuan immediately ran to the school's virtual training room.

Inside a small teaching building, Ye Chuan swiped his black school card. After his identity was verified, a room was opened for his use.

The room wasn't large. It was empty except for a huge piece of equipment and a standard battle arena.

Following the instructions, Ye Chuan walked up to the equipment. Its screen lit up. Since it was a touchscreen, Ye Chuan quickly figured it out after a bit of exploration. The virtual Pokémon in the equipment were divided into ten difficulty levels, with one being the lowest and ten being the highest.

At the same time, the battle modes were divided into Free Practice Mode – where you could set various data for your Pokémon, such as its attributes, type, and gender.

The other mode was called Challenge Mode – which featured a total of five opponents randomly generated at the selected difficulty. After each battle, you would receive a twenty-minute rest period. Of course, you could choose to skip the rest period to shorten the challenge process.

Unlike Free Mode, Challenge Mode offered a reward from Silver Mountain Middle School upon the first clear. If you broke the time record, there would be additional rewards.

However, choosing Challenge Mode would consume points.

These points were the same points used to exchange for prizes after completing tasks for the Silver Mountain Guild. In other words, many of Silver Mountain Middle School's facilities were complementary.

Fortunately, Ye Chuan had received some point rewards for completing the Rattata task earlier, so he didn't hesitate to choose Challenge Mode at difficulty level one.

"Identity loading successful—"

"Challenger, freshman Ye Chuan, battle start."

A mechanical female voice sounded from the equipment. Then, several beams of light shot out, constructing a translucent Pokémon in the distance of the battle arena.

Its appearance was purple and dark blue, a bat about less than a meter long.

A Poison-type Pokémon, Zubat.

This type of Pokémon sleeps in caves during the day and only goes out to hunt at night. Because it doesn't have eyes, it usually uses ultrasonic waves to detect its surroundings. Interestingly, the ultrasonic vibrations emitted by each Zubat population have slight differences, and researchers have already collected over a thousand different ultrasonic waves for study.

"Charmander." Ye Chuan took out a Poké Ball. A flash of white light, and Charmander appeared.

After taking off its training vest, Charmander stretched out its claws and waved them twice in the air. The next second, it charged towards Zubat.

Zubat flapped its wings once, then condensed two blades of air and launched them.

Air Cutter!

"Dodge and then Thunder Punch."

Charmander tilted its body, easily dodging Zubat's attack. Then, it leaped high, its claws crackling with lightning.

One strike, thunder and lightning!

Zubat, in addition to being Poison-type, also had the Flying type, so it was weak to Electric-type attacks. Charmander's attack directly caused Zubat's body to dissipate, turning into blue particles and disappearing with the lightning.

"First stage cleared—" The equipment beside them announced, "The second stage will automatically start in twenty minutes."

"Charmander, you don't need to rest, right?" Ye Chuan smiled slightly.

A fighting spirit appeared in Charmander's eyes, and it clenched its fist, "Char!"

Ye Chuan's finger pressed on the equipment, choosing to skip the rest. Blue light gathered and a new Pokémon reappeared.

Snivy!

Seeing this Pokémon, a smile appeared on Ye Chuan's and Charmander's faces as if synchronized.

A mere ten seconds.

Charmander's Fire Punch directly pierced through Snivy, and the blue light dissipated.

"Skip rest." Ye Chuan's finger pressed the equipment again.

The third Pokémon appeared—

...

At this moment, outside the virtual training room.

A man who looked like a teacher walked in and looked at a female teacher at the front desk:

"Has the equipment been properly maintained today?"

The female teacher glanced at him and said,

"We'll maintain it after all the students have left school. There are still people using it inside."

Hearing that someone was using it, the male teacher immediately frowned and asked, "Isn't it time for practical combat class right now? Did you secretly let someone in to use those devices?"

The female teacher rolled her eyes, "Those devices are incredibly expensive, how would I dare to secretly let someone in?"

"It's someone from the student council. Didn't you know that the student council can now freely use the virtual training room?"

"The student council, no wonder..." The male teacher walked to a computer, bent over as if looking at something, and muttered to himself:

"Doing the difficulty one challenge mode, even though they're all upper-grade students. Oh, the speed is quite fast, are they trying to break the record for the rewards?"

"It's a freshman." At this time, the female teacher beside him reminded him, then also walked to the computer and glanced at it. The next second, a look of surprise appeared on her face.

"So fast?"

[Challenger: Ye Chuan (In Progress) Difficulty: 1 Time Elapsed: 76 seconds 1: Zubat (Finished) 2: Snivy (Finished) 3: Aron (Finished) 4: Electrike (Finished) 5: Skarmory (Battling)]

A few seconds later, Skarmory's icon dimmed, and the challenge time stopped at 79 seconds, which was just over a minute.

"What's the record for difficulty one?" the male teacher turned his head and asked.

"I remember it being around 81 seconds, and it was held by a third-year student," the female teacher said, also looking incredulous. Finishing the battle in just over a minute, at the very least, meant not taking any breaks during the entire round, and every attack was an instant kill, otherwise, it wouldn't be this fast.

"Hey, isn't it just the beginning of the school year? Those freshmen just received their initial Pokémon not long ago, right? You know that the virtual Pokémon at difficulty one are much stronger than those newly hatched Pokémon," the male teacher said.

"Even if you ask me that, how would I know? But this student named Ye Chuan seems to be the freshman representative, which means he had the best entrance exam scores."

"A rare good seedling, report this matter."

"Okay."

At this moment, in the training room, Ye Chuan looked at the Skarmory dissolving into blue light particles and let out a long breath, "This Skarmory was really strong. Luckily, Charmander's type had the advantage."

The Dragon Dance aura around Charmander in front of him slowly dissipated, and it sat down on the ground to rest. However, it could be seen that Charmander looked quite satisfied at this moment, because the feeling of fighting all the way through was simply exhilarating.

"Good job." Ye Chuan also smiled slightly, then he looked at the equipment beside him, intending to claim the first clear reward, but he noticed there was also a record-breaking reward next to it.

"Huh?" Ye Chuan was taken aback.

Did I break the record?
