Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Practical Exam

Ninety minutes passed, and the written exam ended.

After handing in his paper, Ye Chuan walked out of the examination classroom. He stood in the corridor, his gaze surveying the school.

"Ah, Ye Chuan." An unexpected voice came from the side.

Turning his head, a small boy appeared before him, Gu Qi, the one he had his first Pokémon battle with.

"Turns out we ran into each other. How was the exam?" Ye Chuan asked.

"The written test should be fine. By the way, for the last extended question, did you figure out the speed of the Flash Cannon skill?"

"That question was actually more of a trivia question, right? I wrote down 3*10^8m/s as the answer," Ye Chuan thought about the last question and then said.

"Same here." Gu Qi seemed a bit more relaxed. He looked at the school and sighed. "It would be great if I could get into this school."

"I remember Silver Mountain High School has been around for several decades. Why does the infrastructure of this school look so new?" Ye Chuan asked with a hint of curiosity. He would have believed it if someone told him the school was newly built. Even the bathroom faucets next to them were automatic sensor-operated.

"You didn't know?" Gu Qi explained after seeing that Ye Chuan genuinely didn't know. "Silver Mountain High School has always been sponsored by the Bai Corporation. It gets renovated almost every few years during the winter and summer vacations, so it looks like a new school to you."

"The Bai Corporation?" Ye Chuan was slightly stunned.

"It's the same corporation that invented Poké Balls, hey... you don't really not know, do you?" Gu Qi looked at Ye Chuan with a surprised expression. The training equipment discovered by the Bai Corporation covered a vast number, so it was quite rare for a trainer not to know this corporation.

"Of course, I know that," Ye Chuan smiled.

"I thought so. By the way, speaking of renovations, there was a funny incident last year," Gu Qi said with a smile.

"The toilets in the previous year had voice-activated lights. One senior stayed late at school and had a stomachache, so when he went to the toilet, he found that the light would automatically turn off every five or six seconds. He was afraid of the dark, so he clapped his hands while doing his business.

Just then, a teacher entered the toilet, and the next day, rumors of a ghost started spreading, saying that when you went to the toilet at night with diarrhea, there would be a ghost clapping and cheering you on."

The corner of Ye Chuan's mouth twitched, and Gu Qi also spread his hands, looking both amused and helpless.

At this moment, the broadcast sounded: "Please proceed to the designated area for the practical test, examinees."

"It's time for the practical exam, let's go."

"Yeah."

The practical areas they were assigned to happened to be Group C, which was the schoolyard. Holding their exam numbers, they separated and lined up.

There were dedicated battle fields in the schoolyard. The exam used four of these fields, and each battle field was equipped with five teachers: one responsible for the battle, one as the referee, and three examiners giving scores, showing the school's emphasis on the exam.

Many people had already summoned their Pokémon, almost every type imaginable, all looking eager.

Ye Chuan did the same, calling out Charmander to stand beside him.

The teacher in charge of the battle would send out relatively weak Pokémon to battle the examinees. The requirement for the practical exam wasn't necessarily to defeat the opponent, but to observe the performance of the trainer and Pokémon throughout the entire battle. Three examiners would score them, and the average score would be the result of the practical exam.

According to Ye Chuan's exam number, he would have to wait for more than an hour before it was his turn. However, he wasn't in a hurry and joined the other examinees in watching the battles of others.

After a few rounds, Ye Chuan surprisingly found that not a single examinee could defeat the teacher, and the Pokémon used by the teachers weren't much stronger than those of the examinees, yet they just couldn't lose.

"Are the teachers too strong? How are we supposed to fight?"

"I heard they're all high-level trainers. Do you guys have any ideas?"

"Totally impossible, right? Look at that Growlithe, it's being completely played with by that teacher's Froakie."

The examinees watching also began to whisper among themselves.

"Is this the difference between trainers?" Ye Chuan pondered slightly. These teachers were able to work at Silver Mountain High School, so they naturally had a certain level of skill.

That's why the practical exam stated that it wasn't necessary to defeat the teacher, only to show their level.

"We don't plan to greet the teachers' scoring with the attitude of losers," Ye Chuan said, looking at Charmander beside him and smiling slightly. "Right?"

Charmander opened its mouth and clenched its claws. "Ga!"

"Examinee number 77, please proceed to battle field number 4 to prepare for the exam!" At this moment, the schoolyard broadcast sounded.

Number 77 was naturally him. Ye Chuan tugged at the hair tie on his wrist and walked towards battle field number 4. "Let's go, Charmander."

"Ga."

Battle field number 4 was also surrounded by many people. After Ye Chuan entered, he suddenly noticed that the surrounding examinees were all giving him pitiful looks.

"Another one."

"Being matched with Teacher Jiang is practically starting in hell, okay?"

"Ah this, I'm number 79. I hope he lasts a bit longer. I don't want to take the exam in field number 4."

Hearing the conversations of those people, Ye Chuan could roughly guess that the strength of the evaluating teacher should be very strong, otherwise they wouldn't have such a reaction.

"Hey, freshman, don't just stand there." A voice came from the front. Ye Chuan turned his head and saw a thin-faced man in his thirties staring at him with an impatient look. "There are still many students queuing behind you. Do you know how much time you're wasting for everyone?"

He should be Teacher Jiang that those examinees were talking about.

Thinking this, Ye Chuan took a step forward and walked to the command position of the battle field. "Hello teachers, I'm examinee number 77, Ye Chuan."

"Ye Chuan?" Teacher Jiang sized up Ye Chuan.

"Send out your Pokémon."

Ye Chuan glanced at Charmander, who walked onto the battle field, the flame on its tail flickering, quickly entering battle mode.

"What are you wearing? Take it off. No items are allowed during the exam," Teacher Jiang said, noticing the training vest on Charmander.

"Okay."

Ye Chuan smiled slightly. At this moment, Charmander also took off the training vest. The heavy vest landed on the battle field, raising a cloud of dust.

"Oh?" Teacher Jiang seemed to understand something, raising an eyebrow.

"So, Ye Chuan's Charmander was actually battling me while wearing something so heavy?" Gu Qi, who was also watching from the sidelines, looked surprised after seeing this scene. Initially, Gu Qi had thought it was just an ordinary decoration.

"Then I'll use this guy." Teacher Jiang threw his Poké Ball. A flash of white light appeared, and a blue frog-like Pokémon emerged.

Froakie.

The Bubble Frog Pokémon, Water-type, possessing strong jumping ability, capable of easily leaping to the height of a three-story building.

"Its type is even at a disadvantage, there's no way to fight this, right?"

"Too miserable."

"Hopefully it won't get one-shotted and can get a few more points." Below the stage, Gu Qi had already silently started praying for Ye Chuan's Charmander. Although he knew Ye Chuan was strong, facing that demon teacher, he still felt there wasn't much chance of winning, especially with the type disadvantage.
