Chapter 9 - Don't Worry, I'm Experienced

He told her that he would be waiting for her outside the TV station.

She hurriedly packed up and rushed out to meet him. By the time she was at the exit, she received a call from Yvonne.

"Janice, I'm back! I miss you so much. Let's go for dinner!"

Janice thought of Christopher who was still waiting outside and replied, "Sorry, Yvonne. I have something on tonight. I'll have dinner with you tomorrow, okay?"

"Okay then, you'll have to treat me to a good dinner tomorrow!"

"Sure!"

Janice hung up and walked towards the exit.

There was no trace of Christopher. She was confused until she heard a car horn from a distance.

Janice glanced over and saw a black Bentley which was sounding the horn at her.

Confused, she sauntered towards the car.

The car window was rolled down, exposing Christopher in the driver's seat.

Flustered, Janice asked, "Chris, how come you're driving this car? It's..."

Christopher thought of an immediate excuse. "It's Rob's. Come on, hop in the car."

Janice nodded in confusion and got in the car.

She fastened her seatbelt. She couldn't help but scrutinize the interior of the car.

"Chris, this car is way too nice. Rob actually lent it to you? What if you accidentally damage it, we won't be able to afford the compensation!"

Christopher replied," Don't worry, I'm experienced."

For some reason, Janice's thoughts were astray when she heard him.

The two of them returned to the apartment to get their luggage.

She had been living there for several years now. Janice was still reluctant to move.

Plus, she also paid the rent in advance.

Nonetheless, once she thought of Christopher, she relented and decided to move.

Once they moved into their new place, Janice thought that she would need to improve their standard of living. Even though the new residence was modestly sized, the decor and interior were quite plush.

The wardrobe in her room was huge - even bigger than the bedroom she used to live in!

Janice reminisced with a sigh and proceeded to unpack her luggage.

Halfway through, Christopher entered her room. Glancing at the pile of clothes on the bed, he frowned. "Do you want me to help you?"

She shook her head and said, "There's no need. I can manage."

As soon as she finished her words, the pile of clothes on the bed collapsed with a bang and it was scattered everywhere on the floor.

All her clothes fell out, including her underwear which was placed deep in the pile of clothes. Worse still, a black lace bra fell out and rolled to Christopher's feet.

Janice immediately rushed to pick it up. But she did not pay attention to the clothes under her feet and tripped over. Just as she was about to fall, a pair of strong arms caught her and she fell into an embrace.

Stunned, Janice lifted her head slowly and met Christopher's exquisite eyes. His gaze was enchanting and she fell into a daze. She stared at him, unable to look away.

"No need?" It wasn't until she heard Christopher's deep voice that she seemed to come back to her senses. She quickly pulled away from his arms, but her cheeks and ears were flushed.

"Thanks."

Janice thanked him while her face blushed as red as a tomato.

Christopher was silent. He merely stared at Janice's blushed face and smiled. He slowly bent down and picked up the black lace bra that Janice wanted to pick up a while ago.

He held it in his hand and examined it with a hint of playfulness in his eyes.

...

When she saw that, her face blushed in a darker shade of red. She quickly proceeded to hide the bra behind her back. "Please... please leave, I... I can manage it here."

Christopher stared at her blushing face and couldn't help but tease her. "I'll help you. Anyway, I'm free now."

Without waiting for Janice's consent, he reached out to fold the clothes on the bed.

Janice relented and allowed him to do what he wanted. Still blushing, she continued to arrange her clothes in the wardrobe.

While he was folding her clothes, he realized that most of her clothes were dresses. And most of them were work attire. His mind wandered to the thought of Janice wearing these dresses, she must have been tempting all the men around her.

He couldn't help but frown.

"Do you normally wear these to conduct interviews?"

Janice didn't understand why he would ask such a question. She nodded in agreement.

He furrowed his eyebrows and said, "These dresses are too short. You should wear slacks instead."

He spoke in a commanding tone.

She thought everything was alright until she heard his order and she became unhappy.

How could it be? Her dress length was quite modest; almost reaching her knees. Besides, what was wrong if she wore them anyway?

She didn't take his advice to heart.

The next day, Janice and Yvonne had dinner together.

Before she went to the restaurant, she sent a WhatsApp message to Christopher saying that she would skip the dinner tonight and told him not to wait for her.

As soon as Janice reached the restaurant, Yvonne waved at her.

Janice walked over and sat down. She was very pleased to see Yvonne.

Yvonne was her best friend. A lot of things happened during that time. She didn't have the chance to tell Yvonne since she was away on a business trip. After exchanging a few words of greetings, Janice announced.

"Yvonne, let me tell you something. I'm... married."

Sure enough, Yvonne was stunned by the news. After a few moments, she recovered from her daze and asked excitedly, "What happened? I've only been away for a few days and you've already married! Are you sure that you haven't been scammed?"

Janice glanced at her, speechless.

"What are you talking about? Something happened to my family, so I had no choice but to get married."

Yvonne had heard about Janice's family matters, but she didn't expect that her friend would get married in such a short time.

She asked, "Who's your husband? What's he like? Is he good to you?" Yvonne bombarded her with questions.

Janice didn't know which question she should answer first. She continued, "He's a nice person, but he comes from a poor family. Still, I don't think there's anything wrong with that."

"That's good."

Yvonne suddenly realized something. She hesitated for a moment and asked, "But, aren't you waiting for Benjamin?"

When Yvonne mentioned Benjamin, Janice poked the bowl with her fork mindlessly and sighed unhappily.

Yvonne saw that and knew that she had said something wrong so she quickly corrected herself.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have mentioned him. Forget I said anything." Yvonne quickly scop up some food and placed it on Janice's plate. Janice paused and said, "It's okay. It's in the past."

Janice returned home after the meal. Christopher was sitting in the living room, watching the financial news. When he saw her at the door, he looked away from the TV and greeted her," Oh, you're back."

Janice hung her bag on the coat rack and changed into slippers. "Have you eaten yet?"

Christopher nodded. Since Janice looked unhappy, he turned off the TV and asked, "What's wrong?"

She shook her head. "Nothing."

She walked into the bedroom. Suddenly, she thought of something and returned to the living room. She asked," By the way, my dad asked us to join them for dinner tomorrow."

...

Without waiting for his reply, Janice added, " If you're not ready to meet them yet, I'll tell him that it's not a good time."

After all, Christopher was still unemployed and she didn't want her dad grilling him over his work status.

As soon as she finished her sentence, Christopher said, "It's okay. What time tomorrow?"

"Huh?" Janice was stunned for a moment before she nodded. "Tomorrow night, I'll pick you up after work."

"Okay."

Janice returned to her room and her mood was somber at the thought of bringing Christopher home tomorrow.

Christopher didn't know about her family's situation, but she knew what could happen tomorrow.

Gladys and Vanessa would probably voice their opinions of him directly.

The next day, Janice received a call from Christopher as soon as she got off work.

He told her that he was waiting at the door.

Janice was surprised. After all, she told him that she would pick him up at home.

She didn't expect him to drop by her workplace.

When she left the TV station, she saw an eye-catching black Bentley parked at the entrance. She had seen this car before. It was the one Christopher drove when she moved houses last time.

Christopher got out of the car. He was dressed in a suit and looked quite handsome.

It was obvious that he spent some time on his grooming today.

Janice already knew that Christopher was handsome, but when she saw him right now, she couldn't help but stare at him longingly.

How could her husband be so dreamy?

Christopher opened the front passenger door and said. "Get in the car."

Upon hearing his voice, Janice recovered from her daze and entered the car. After she sat in the passenger seat, Christopher closed the car door and sat on the driver's seat.

Janice glanced at Christopher wearing a seat belt, and said, "This car is lavish."

After all, her family knew about Christopher's financial status. If he drove an expensive car in such an ostentatious manner, it would be inevitable for Gladys and

Vanessa to gossip about him. She didn't want Christopher to be laughed at.

Christopher said, "It's okay. If you think the car is too lavish, we can park it somewhere far away."

Janice agreed to his suggestion.

Christopher drove in silence.

Janice briefly introduced her family members.

When it came to Vanessa and Gladys, her face turned gloomy. "Don't take their words to heart. It's their personality. I'm used to it. I'm afraid that you..."

Christopher knew what she wanted to say. "Have you forgotten? It's not the first time I've seen them."

"You're right."

Janice relaxed once she heard Christopher.

Soon, they arrived at the Gladwells home. Christopher parked the car away from the property.

After getting out, Janice spotted Christopher opening the trunk of the car. She was puzzled and followed him.

She was stunned when she saw Christopher with expensive cigars and whiskies.

"Christopher, why did you buy so many things?"

Christopher replied, "It's my first time here. I can't be empty-handed."

"But, these are too expensive. Where did you get the money? These are worth more than ten grand!"

Janice was in disbelief.

He forgot about the price when he asked Rob to buy the gifts. When he heard Janice, he realized that he had made a mistake.

He said, "You didn't even ask for anything when you married me. These gifts are nothing."

Janice couldn't find any reason to refute what he said. But when she thought that the gifts cost more than ten grand, she couldn't help but feel distressed.
