Chapter 4 - Spirit Stone, Barbecue

Zhang Yuhe gripped the long knife and moved cautiously through the mountains and forests.

Although he had no experience surviving in the wild, and didn't know how to hunt or track prey, he still pressed on.

A living person can't be suffocated to death.

Besides, he was now a cultivator.

He may not be able to defeat a powerful monster, but killing a small one for food shouldn't be a problem.

As he navigated through the forest, his mind wandered.

Suddenly, a rustling sound came from nearby.

Zhang Yuhe's heart skipped a beat. He quickly hid behind a large tree, peering out carefully to observe.

After a moment, a massive wild boar appeared in his line of sight.

"Damn, are the wild boars in Yufantian this huge?"

Seeing the boar, Zhang Yuhe froze in place.

A wild boar bigger than a cow must be a spirit beast.

At that moment, he hesitated about whether he should try to make this boar his dinner.

After watching it for a while, he realized that while the boar was enormous, its aura seemed weaker than his own.

If he sneaked up and attacked, he might have a chance.

"Forget it. Wild boar meat isn't that delicious. I'll change my target."

After some internal debate, Zhang Yuhe quickly found an excuse to abandon the idea of attacking the boar.

The main reason was that he was still only at the fourth level of Qi Refining and had not yet learned any magical abilities.

The grand magical powers that cultivators should have, like moving mountains and seas, were still beyond his reach.

Right now, all Zhang Yuhe had was raw strength. He could rely on his long knife or simply use his fists to fight monsters.

To be honest, he wasn't too confident in his sword, especially since it had cost him 50,000 blue coins.

Would a regular sword from Blue Star even be able to kill a monster from Yufantian?

Zhang Yuhe wasn't sure.

The long knife was just something to give him courage—that's all.

After bypassing the wild boar, Zhang Yuhe encountered several more monsters. But he didn't make a move, as the auras of these creatures were either similar to his own or stronger.

He was nervous.

"Let it be for now. I'll wait a few days until I'm stronger, then I'll hunt them."

After comforting himself, Zhang Yuhe continued searching for his dinner.

"Hey, this looks promising. Yellow sheep meat should be delicious, right?"

The forest was teeming with monsters, and Zhang Yuhe quickly spotted a potential target.

It was a creature that resembled a yellow sheep.

Let's just call it a yellow sheep.

The yellow sheep wasn't very large, about the size of a normal one from Blue Star. But more importantly, the aura it emitted was very weak.

It was probably on par with his own strength when he first broke through the first level of Qi Training.

"Perfect."

For his first hunt in Yufantian, Zhang Yuhe decided he should play it safe.

He chose the weakest monster.

He quietly crept toward the yellow sheep.

At that moment, the sheep was unaware of its impending fate and continued grazing on some leaves.

Clang...

Zhang Yuhe suddenly sprang into action, unsheathing his long sword. The spiritual energy in his dantian surged into the blade.

The sharp sword light flashed as it struck the yellow sheep's neck.

Due to the element of surprise and the difference in strength, the yellow sheep didn't react at all.

With a flash of the blade, the sheep's head was severed, its body left motionless on the ground. Next to it were two shining wooden boxes.

"Haha, something dropped! What could it be? Maybe a magic weapon for me?" Zhang Yuhe exclaimed, thrilled at the discovery after his first monster kill in Yufantian.

He quickly opened the first box, revealing a stone radiating spiritual energy.

The stone was small, about the size of a mahjong tile.

"This must be a spiritual stone."

Zhang Yuhe quickly picked up the spiritual stone.

"Not bad. This is a good find."

Spiritual stones were widely used in the world of immortal cultivation. They not only aided in cultivation, but were also essential for setting up formations.

Of course, the primary use of spiritual stones was as currency. In the world of immortal cultivation, not having spiritual stones was like being penniless on Blue Star—you simply couldn't get by.

Zhang Yuhe tucked the stone away and opened the second box. A rich, meaty aroma wafted out.

"Uh, is this a plate of barbecue?"

Staring at the items in the box, Zhang Yuhe was speechless.

He had imagined many things—maybe a martial arts manual, or a magic tool or treasure. Perhaps even a magic weapon.

But never had he expected to find a plate of fragrant barbecue.

"Guess I didn't think big enough," he muttered to himself.

But honestly, this was perfect. A ready-to-eat dinner was exactly what he needed.

Zhang Yuhe pulled the barbecue out of the box.

He had to admit, the game system's design was very thoughtful.

The barbecue was served on a plate, so he didn't even have to touch it with his hands.

"Time to eat and practice," he said.

With the long knife in his left hand and the plate of barbecue in his right, he quickly made his way back to the Taoist temple.

As for the yellow sheep's body, he didn't even glance at it again.

Zhang Yuhe suddenly remembered that he hadn't brought any seasoning or a way to start a fire.

He couldn't eat a whole sheep without seasoning—raw meat wasn't an option.

He wasn't Bear Grylls, after all. Eating raw meat just wasn't something he could do.

After a while, Zhang Yuhe returned to the dilapidated Taoist temple. He sliced the barbecue into small pieces with his long knife and savored it slowly.

After finishing a piece, a satisfied feeling washed over him.

"This is delicious. Let's see what others are doing," he said, opening the chat channel as he ate.

At this point, there weren't as many messages popping up as before.

The screen still refreshed, but the speed was slower than it had been earlier.

"I'm so hungry. Do you have any food? Can you add me as a friend and send me some?"

"Haha, I brought a box of instant noodles with me. It'll last for days."

"There are monsters everywhere outside. How can you be hungry? Just go out and kill monsters, eat their meat."

"What are you going to do? Can you fight them? I should've brought an AK earlier."

"AKs are useless. You can't even make a fire here."

"No way, is that true?"

"Yeah, I brought a sniper rifle, but I couldn't start a fire. It's not even as useful as a fire stick."

"That's true. Not only are firearms useless here, but even lighters don't work."

"Great, so are we going to starve to death here?"

"Stop worrying. If things get bad, just go out and fight wild monsters. Who cares if you die? You can always log off and come back tomorrow."

"Don't overthink it. If you can't stand it, log off. It's only the first day. Get a feel for the situation, and then come back tomorrow when you're better prepared."

"Yeah, it won't take long. Immortal cultivation takes hundreds, even thousands of years, so a hundred days isn't a big deal."

"The guy above is right. I'm logging off now. Bye-bye."

"Hey, I'll stick it out for a bit longer."

"It's getting dark... so scary. I'm in a deserted village. There won't be ghosts, right?"

"If there are ghosts, just think of Ning Caichen. It'll be cool."

"Fuck, buddy, I respect you as a man."
