(POV: Jon)
Lady Luck is somewhat as cruel as nature. Sometimes it makes someone's life like it's heaven, while it makes the life of someone like me miserable, even though they have done nothing wrong.
That's what I grumbling about when I found out in which universe I was in. Well, it's much better than grimdark Warhammer 40k or the SCP universe.
(Flashback: Briefing Room)
After we completed our training, we were told to be in the briefing at sharp 14. So we did what we were told to do.
While we were waiting for the Sergeant to relay the orders, I looked around myself to see does anyone from my friend circle was in my squad.
Let me tell you, fate works in most mysterious ways. All of my buddies were there.
When they saw me, they moved toward me to sit with me, which caused everyone else to pay attention to me.
Because they called me Mean Shot in the whole division due to my sniper skills.
Rodriguez greeted me: "Well, if it isn't a mean shot! Are they talking about your sniper or your mouth?"
So I greeted in return: "Hey there! I guess they haven't deported you yet."
If that was before, he would have already lunged at me, but after facing hardships in training together, during which we became friends. So he laughed heartily at the jokes I made.
"I heard you got in trouble even in the airborne division camp," Anthony said.
"Well, the one who asked for trouble became my sparring partner, and you happened to be my sparring partner in the past. So you know what happened." I replied with a creepy smile, which sent a chill down Anthony's spine.
Meanwhile, I was talking to Anthony and Rodriguez when Liam also came to the spot where we were sitting.
"Well I'd be damned where the sissy boy go that I met on the military bus? All I see is a man ready for war." He greeted with a smug smile on his face.
"Before I greet you, tell me: What do you call a smart blonde?" I asked. The smug grin was wiped out from the face of his face.
"No! No! No! Not again! Please don't be a dumb joke! Please don't be a dumb joke!" He muttered under his breath.
Then he took a minute to gather his strength and asked: "What?" I replied: "A Labrador."
I swear I saw the light dimming in the eyes of my buddy while I was looking at the unresponsive face of Liam.
I suddenly heard someone spitting water and choking on it. Then I saw a veteran sitting in front of us.
I don't know why he was holding his side, well, it's either because he was trying to mitigate the choking or he was laughing at my joke.
After some time, he said, "Man, that was funny." While he was trying to say something, suddenly our squad's Sergeant, who is leading our squad, entered holding a file with a familiar logo.
Our sergeant looked like a 30-year-old man, with a certain depth to his eyes that symbolizes that the person has seen some things in life that no human should ever see.
While placing the folder on the podium, he ordered the fellow, who was sitting beside close to buttons to switch off the lights with the gesture of his hands. Our squadmate who switched off the light also turned the projector on.
When the screen was on with the image of terrain with highlighting some of the points on the screen, then he said: "We have been ordered by higher-ups to infiltrate and sabotage the Hydra base, which is the technical hub of the German forces. They are an organization behind the advanced weapon in the hands of nazis. We have been..."
When I heard the word 'Hydra,' I zoned out, like something snapped in me. Then I came to sudden realization: 'Fuck! I am in the Marvel.' This realisation hit me like a freight train.
While I was thinking of the threats that pose to my being, like Thanos, Tva, and most importantly, the Bald One.
So that's why the symbol on file looked so familiar. It was a symbol of the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR), an organization that must be preparing to make superhumans.
Meanwhile, the sergeant has given us our roles in the mission.
We would be dropped off at the nearest point of base where enemy radar would not pick up signals of our plane.
Then we would have to trek through the jungle to get to the base, where in the jungle I, along with my spotter, would split with the team, then we would go to the proper vantage point.
Then we would provide cover to the team that infiltrated the base. After placing the explosives at the critical place.
They were ordered to retreat while we stood by to make sure they returned safely.
After that, we were supposed to rendezvous at a certain point where a stealth plane, carefully hidden by our spies, After that, we would have to detonate the explosives, and then we would board the plane.
And then our mission would be accomplished when we would be on our way out of enemy territory.
(Back to present)
Now I am sitting in the plane praying none of my squad gets killed, or I would be getting some serious survivor's guilt complex.
