Cherreads

Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 Shameless

Finding a ranch owner who understands the Bountiful Pasture Talent and renting a ranch from him would be a straightforward affair. The owner would gladly agree and even offer Li Cunxu a 30% share of the ranch's profits. Why? Simply because having the Bountiful Pasture Talent active on his ranch would bring in greater benefits.

But what about Shi Jintang? Forget about profit sharing; he wouldn't even offer a single reward.

Li Cunxu finally understood—this guy wanted to freeload on his talent while expecting gratitude for "allowing" him to train his talent on the ranch.

Thankfully, he asked a few more questions, or he would have been scammed.

Damn, he was thoroughly disgusted.

Should he curse him? No need. Someone who could shamelessly say such things without batting an eye wouldn't be affected by words. Cursing him would just be a waste of breath.

Such a person didn't even deserve to be cursed by him.

In the future, when he's stronger, he'll just put a sack over his head and beat him up.

"You can give this opportunity to someone else," Li Cunxu said with a dismissive wave.

"What kind of attitude is that?" Shi Jintang retorted, displeased. "As the principal, I'm giving you a chance to train, and you're not even grateful."

"I don't want the ranch. Whoever wants it can have it."

Li Cunxu was afraid he'd lose his temper and start cursing, and it would get messy.

Arriving at the assigned Breeder class, Li Cunxu felt a headache coming on as he looked at the pile of books handed out, which was almost as tall as a small hill. And this was just for one semester.

Half of the books were about the habits of Pet Beasts and how to interact with them correctly, while the other half focused on methods for making Spirit Food.

Spirit Food, crafted by Breeders for Pet Beasts, had various effects. Some could enhance a Pet Beast's strength, while others could boost its speed...

After attending a morning of Breeder classes, Li Cunxu realized the lessons were useless to him.

The classes on Pet Beast habits? In his previous life, he was a seasoned player with forty years of gaming experience. He knew more about Pet Beast habits than the teacher lecturing at the podium.

As for the classes on making Spirit Food...

Creating Spirit Food required precise and flawless control. One wrong step, and a bowl of Spirit Food could turn into a deadly dark concoction.

In his past life, Li Cunxu was all thumbs when it came to delicate tasks. His attempts to learn Spirit Food crafting ended in failure.

He wasn't sure if he was still clumsy in this life, but even if he wasn't, he had no intention of learning Spirit Food crafting.

Because five years later, a technological revolution would give rise to a new type of Pet Beast food called Spirit Crystals, which far surpassed Spirit Food in every aspect.

Using the same ingredients, Spirit Crystals were more effective than Spirit Food.

Spirit Food was tedious to make.

Spirit Crystals were simple to produce.

Spirit Food had a short shelf life, ranging from a day to a month.

Spirit Crystals had a long shelf life, lasting from a year to several centuries.

If stored properly, Spirit Crystals could last for hundreds of years. As the saying goes, "One crystal can be passed down for three generations; even after you're gone, the crystal remains."

Spirit Crystals replaced Spirit Food, rendering it obsolete.

Now, Breeders learning to make Spirit Food were the unlucky ones. By the time they mastered it, Spirit Food would already be outdated, and they'd have to relearn the craft of Spirit Crystals.

Since the Breeder classes were useless to him, he saw no point in wasting time staying at school.

"Applying for a leave of absence? That's too difficult. I'll just apply for home study instead."

Home study was a common practice at the school. Many students from prominent families had already learned all the high school material before even entering high school. Attending classes wasn't necessary for them; they only needed to come to school for competitions or exams.

"Teacher, I'd like to apply for home study," Li Cunxu said.

The teacher didn't pay much attention and agreed. Today, many people had come to him with applications, and he was more than happy to have more students apply. With fewer students, management would be easier, and the good grades of students studying at home would still count towards his performance.

Li Cunxu took the opportunity to ask for the afternoon off. After leaving the school, he scanned a shared bike and leisurely rode towards the location of the Ranch that Chen Xi had given him.

Halfway through his ride, Li Cunxu saw the police station by the roadside and suddenly remembered a major oversight in his plan to bury his sister.

As an older brother, it was abnormal not to report his sister missing.

Even if the mysterious person didn't cause him trouble, the police would. They would list him as the prime suspect in his sister's disappearance. After all, who wouldn't report their sister missing? It didn't align with normal behavior.

Li Cunxu immediately decided to report the incident. Not only would this eliminate the oversight, but it would also create confusion, making the mysterious person think that Li Anle had been kidnapped.

He parked the shared bike and walked into the police station.

Officer Lin behind the counter asked, "What can I do for you?"

Li Cunxu replied, "My sister is missing."

Upon hearing this, Officer Lin immediately became serious.

"When did your sister go missing?"

"Last night. I saw her lying in bed when I got home, but when I went to the kitchen to cook, she was gone."

"Is it possible she went to a relative's house to play?"

"That's not possible. My sister is a paraplegic."

"What's her name?"

"Li Anle."

"How old is she?"

"She's thirteen this year."

"Do you have a photo of her?"

Li Cunxu took out his phone and showed a picture of his sister.

Officer Lin looked at the photo on the phone and then at Li Cunxu.

"Cousin?"

"Biological sister."

"Half-sister?"

"Full sister, same parents." Li Cunxu replied with a dark expression.

Officer Lin stared at the photo, pondering, "They don't look alike!"

Li Anle looked like a stunning beauty, while Li Cunxu? He wasn't bad-looking, with a delicate and somewhat scholarly appearance.

But when comparing their looks, the difference was stark—one resembled a princess of an emperor, the other a beggar under the emperor's rule.

In fact, Li Anle didn't always look like this. It was only after being influenced by the Power of the Four Gods that she became increasingly beautiful, to the point of being a femme fatale.

The police asked many detailed questions. After finishing, Officer Lin went to Li Cunxu's house to investigate.

Seeing Officer Lin's serious and responsible demeanor, Li Cunxu couldn't help but feel a bit guilty.

Officer Lin summoned the Long-Eared Hound and said, "Sandy, smell the scent of the girl left in this room."

"Sandy, can you track the girl's scent?"

The Long-Eared Hound sniffed all the way to the door, shook its head, and then pointed to a small puddle by the roadside.

Officer Lin muttered to himself, "Can't track it. Did last night's heavy rain wash away the scent?"

Officer Lin continued searching for clues in the room, pausing thoughtfully in front of a raincoat.

"Did you go out last night during the heavy rain?"

"My sister was missing, so naturally, I went out to look for her."

"Your sister went missing last night. Why did you only report it at noon today?"

"I didn't sleep all night, searching for my sister. I was in a daze and only remembered to report it when I passed the police station on my way back after taking leave at noon."

After saying this, Li Cunxu sneezed and quickly took some cold medicine.

Li Cunxu's explanation was perfect, but for some reason, Officer Lin couldn't shake the feeling that this older brother was highly suspicious.

Officer Lin patted Li Cunxu on the shoulder and said, "Don't worry, the police will definitely help you find your sister. Do you have any of her personal belongings? I'll take them back for divination and location."

While speaking, Officer Lin stared intently into Li Cunxu's eyes but didn't detect anything amiss.
