Chapter 2 - Eyes That Open Again

Blinding light filled my vision. My eyes stung, forcing me to squint. My entire body felt strange

(Am I… in a hospital?)

As my vision adjusted, I saw a woman with jet-black hair gazing at me with gentle eyes. She has a slightly round but charming face, filled with warmth.

(Who… is she?)

I tried to move my mouth, but only a soft "Ah… uu…" escaped my lips. My voice—so weak.

Beside her, a man with the same jet-black hair gave me a stiff but warm smile. His presence was strong, reliable, like a pillar of support.

I tried to move my body, but I couldn't move it the way I want to.

Though it seems to be enough for the time being.

Hmm?

At that time, I put my hand within sight.

Small. Amazingly small

My fingers were tiny, my skin soft and delicate—like a baby's hand. My head is filled with questions.

The conclusion I finally made was that it was a mistake. But, when I looked at my hand again, it was still a small fragile hand.

(What… What is this.)

(Is this a joke?)

Or…

(Did I… die? And get reincarnated?)

Before I could process the thought further, the woman scooped me up and held me close.

"My cute baby…" she whispered, her voice trembling with love.

The lovely woman says while hugs me tightly.

(She called me baby. Was she… my mother?)

"He really takes after you, honey," the man said, his expression soft.

(And he… was my father?)

(So warm…)

Their embrace was unlike anything I had ever known—gentle, protective. A warmth that seeped into my very soul.

(So, a parent's love and affection were this warm? When was the last time I feel like this.)

The last thing I remembered was betrayal, pain, and loneliness. But here, in this moment, I felt none of that.

Drowsiness took over, and before I could think further, my eyelids grew heavy.

And I drifted into sleep.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A year has passed since then.

By this time, I was able to crawl.

Being able to move is a wonderful thing.

I had never felt such gratefulness for being able to move.

Even though I could only crawl, once I did so, I understood a lot of things.

First of all, this family was relatively well off.

The building was a two-story wooden house, and there were over four rooms.

Through the window, I often watched the village scenery. Rolling wheat fields stretched into the horizon, and beyond them, small clusters of houses sat peacefully. It was a tranquil, rural place—nothing like the cities I once knew.

(So, this really isn't Earth…)

I still had no idea where I was, but one thing was certain—this world was completely different.

While I watch the scenery, the chair loses its balance Before I could react, my tiny body tipped forward, and—

Thud!

I crashed onto the wooden floor.

"Kyaa!"

I heard a scream just as I hit the floor.

I barely had time to process the throbbing pain in the back of my head before my mother rushed over, her face pale with panic.

She dropped the broom she had been holding and knelt beside me, frantically checking for injuries.

"Yuu are you okay?"

From her anxious attitude, it seemed I had fallen in quite the dangerous manner.

It seemed possible that I might become an idiot due to the knock on my head. Not that, that would be any different.

There was a throbbing pain on the back of my head.

As my mother's reaction didn't seem panic assumed there wasn't any blood. It was probably just a swelling.

Mother took a careful look at my head.

Her expression seemed to say, if there's an injury it'll be serious.

Then, she placed a hand on my head and whispered,

"Spirit of light, Grant me your blessing, Cure the wound, Heal"

My mother's hand emitted dim light, and, in an instant, my pain disappeared

(…. Eh?)

What was that just now? What did she just do? I blinked, stunned. That was not normal.

My mother sighed in relief. "Thank goodness…"

Just then, my father entered the room, likely drawn by the commotion.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Listen to me, dear. Yuu actually climbed on top of chair….and nearly got gravely injured."

My father chuckled, crouching down to ruffle my hair. "Well, it's good that the boy is active."

A slightly worried mother, and a father who didn't treat it like a big deal and placated her.

This is a commonly seen event.

But my mother didn't back off, perhaps because of the back of my head hitting the ground first.

"What are you talking about! He only an old year old. Would you worry a little more?"

"Despite that, a child grows up by falling and becoming stronger," my father replied with a reassuring smile. "Besides, even if he gets injured, you can just heal him, right?"

My mother pouted. "That's not the point…"

Their warm bickering made me realize something.

(They genuinely care about me.)

This wasn't like my past life, where I was alone. Here, I was loved and cherished.

A small warmth settled in my chest.

"He'll be fine. Don't worry."

My father looks at me smiling wryly

"Please don't grow up to be like your father Yuu."

My mother sighs.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Later on, I started paying attention to the conversation between my parents.

I manage to heard some of the name of countries, districts, and various other locations.

I was certain of it.

This wasn't earth, but some other world. Even though the custom here is quite similar to my previous life.

This world was different. A fantasy world where magic and sword was real.

At this moment, I had a flash of inspiration

Since I have been given a second chance in life and with all my memory from previous life. I want to have a life that I always wish for.

I want to live like a normal person, to be able to overcome any challenge, to fully enjoy one's life.

I had been full of regret when I died in my previous life.

Me who had always been a loner and the fact that I died of betrayal from my own friend.

But the me who experienced all that, having retained the knowledge and experiences of my previous life, perhaps I could really do it.

I have known how violent and cruel human can be. This time I will not make the same mistake

(That life is over now. This time… I'll do things differently.)

I won't be weak. I won't let people trample over me ever again.

This time, I'll become strong enough to protect myself and those I care about.

I clenched my tiny fists.

I will live. I will be happy.

This time, I'll make sure of it.
