Chapter 25 - The Gatekeeper’s Choice

Kael's footsteps echoed through the empty expanse of the rift, each step sending ripples across the fabric of reality itself. The Gate shimmered before him like a tear in the sky, vast and endless, stretching beyond comprehension. The edges of the rift seemed to warp and twist, as if the very concept of space was fighting to hold itself together. Yet, for Kael, this was nothing new. He had faced worse.

He reached out with his senses, feeling the vast power of the realms beyond. The Gate held countless worlds—each with its own set of rules, its own laws of existence. But now, the delicate balance had been disturbed, and everything was teetering on the edge of destruction. Time itself was splintering, and the gods… the gods were watching.

A voice, low and unyielding, rang out in his mind—the system's cold, detached tone.

[System Notification: Dimensional Stabilization in Progress]

Objective Update: Stabilize the rift and prevent the collapse of reality.

Kael gritted his teeth, ignoring the notification. He had no interest in what the system had to say anymore. His path was his own. He was the one who had sealed the Forgotten, and he would be the one to set things right. But as his eyes scanned the swirling chaos ahead, Kael felt a growing unease. Something… was wrong.

The Gate pulsed, and in that moment, Kael saw a vision—an image of something vast, something dark, lurking at the edges of the rift. It was as if the rift was trying to show him something, something that had been waiting for this very moment.

He didn't need to see more. He already knew.

"Not again," he muttered to himself. "I've already been through this."

The vision faded, but its implications lingered. Kael stepped forward, unwilling to let fear hold him back. The Gate loomed large, and the pull of the worlds beyond felt stronger than ever.

Kael gripped the Riftblade, its dark energy vibrating in response to the rift. This weapon, forged from the essence of gods, was his last line of defense. He had used it to tear through realities before, and he would use it again—this time, not just to stop the rift from consuming everything, but to assert his control over the very nature of existence.

He reached the center of the rift, his senses on high alert, his mind racing. The worlds beyond were unstable, and the fabric of time was stretched thin. Yet, there was something else—an undercurrent of power, ancient and powerful, flowing just beneath the surface. Kael's instincts screamed at him. This wasn't just a tear in reality. It was a doorway.

And something was coming through.

With a burst of speed, Kael activated his Dimensional Rift ability, splitting the space around him to form an unbreakable barrier, an armory of temporal energy that shielded him from whatever force lay beyond. But the force pushing against him was too strong. The air around him crackled, bending and warping in unnatural ways.

The Gate quivered, its edges bleeding energy, and Kael knew that if he hesitated for even a moment, the realms would collapse in on themselves. He didn't have the luxury of time.

He raised the Riftblade above his head, its blade catching the swirling light of the rift, and with a roar, he cleaved through the air. The blade cut through the fabric of reality like a hot knife through butter, a resounding shockwave following in its wake. The energy surged into the blade, pouring into him, a power beyond comprehension filling his veins.

The rift screamed in protest, the darkness pressing against Kael's barrier, but Kael stood firm. He would not allow it to break through. Not now.

But then, the pull of the rift changed. Instead of resisting, it began to draw him in. Kael's feet were ripped from the ground as the rift expanded, sucking him toward its core. He fought to maintain his footing, his body stretching against the force, but it was no use. The rift's gravity was too strong.

"Not today," Kael snarled, activating Time Dilation.

The world slowed, the rift's pull weakening just enough for Kael to regain control. He thrust out his hand, activating Gatebreaker—a devastating ability that shattered the rift's core. The explosion of energy sent a shockwave through the dimensions, tearing the fabric of the rift apart, but Kael stood firm, using the very essence of his will to hold it together.

With a final surge of power, the rift began to collapse in on itself, reality folding like a torn piece of paper. The pull weakened, the storm of energy subsiding as the Gate shut. Kael remained standing, his body burning with the aftermath of his power.

But it wasn't over.

He had sealed the rift, but something remained. A presence. A power.

It was watching him.

Kael stood at the epicenter of the chaos, his mind still racing, his senses heightened. He could feel the shift in the atmosphere. Something was different. Something beyond even his comprehension.

"I've sealed the rift," Kael muttered to himself, his voice grim. "But I don't think this is the last time I'll deal with this."

He turned toward the now-collapsing rift, the remnants of the tear fading into nothingness. He had done what he needed to do, but the weight of the task remained heavy on his shoulders.

As Kael looked up at the sky, the stars flickering in the distance, he realized that this victory was just another step. There were forces at play—ancient powers—ones that didn't just want to tear reality apart. They wanted to reshape it.

And Kael was the only one who could stop them.
