When Dugu Yan heard Dugu Bo's voice, the flush that had long faded from her face crept back up to her ears.
Like being shocked by electricity, she jumped off Yu Tianming and stumbled like a startled fawn into Dugu Bo's arms, burying her head in his chest.
Seeing her rush over, Dugu Bo gently asked, "Yan Yan, did that brat bully you?"
Dugu Yan didn't answer him directly, instead saying, "Brother Tianming found a way to detoxify the poison. Grandpa won't have to suffer so much anymore."
Hearing this, Dugu Bo froze in place. The Jade Phosphor Serpent's poison had tormented him for half his life—not just the agonizing pain when the poison flared up, but also the isolation it brought, as other soul masters shunned him.
Years ago, his son and daughter-in-law died because of this very poison, and now it had been passed on to his beloved granddaughter.
He had long accepted this cruel twist of fate, but to suddenly be told that a cure had been found overnight left him stunned and at a loss.
Just then, the girl in his arms whispered again, "Grandpa Yu even gave me a soul bone... he said it was a betrothal gift."
Her voice grew softer and softer, but Dugu Bo heard every word loud and clear.
Only now did he come to his senses. Yu Tianming, already as tall as a grown man, was barely three years older than his granddaughter.
Earlier, after suffering another bout of poisoning and seeing the boy hugging Yan Yan, he had momentarily forgotten the difference in age.
Now, he carefully examined Yu Tianming. The boy stood over seven feet tall, with sword-like eyebrows, starry eyes, fair skin, and a gentle yet composed smile. In terms of looks, he was easily the most handsome person Dugu Bo had ever seen.
And he was the destined heir of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, with high soul power, refined manners, and a pleasant demeanor—it was no wonder Yan Yan liked him so much.
As Dugu Bo's thoughts spun, his anger dissipated. But he still said sternly, "Yan Yan is only six. I advise you not to have any funny ideas."
Hearing this, the girl in his arms twisted shyly like a caterpillar and pouted, "Grandpa, Brother Tianming is a good person."
Seeing her like this, Dugu Bo knew she was hopelessly smitten. He sighed and said, "Then treat Yan Yan well in the future."
Yu Tianming didn't respond to that, instead saying, "We've already found a way to detoxify you."
This brought Dugu Bo back to the matter at hand. He asked urgently, "What must I do?"
Yu Tianming explained with a smile, "Because the Jade Phosphor Serpent is a beast-type martial soul, long-term fusion causes the poison to gradually integrate with your body. If you force the poison into a soul bone, it will no longer harm your body."
Dugu Bo frowned. "I've cultivated the Jade Phosphor Serpent for over sixty years—the poison is deep in my bones. Forcing it out now could trigger an even worse backlash. Yan Yan, on the other hand, is only mildly poisoned. She might have a chance."
Yu Tianming continued, "The Extreme Cold Yin Spring and the Fiery Hot Yang Spring both have strong suppressive effects on all poisons. Their waters are immune to all toxins, and you've used them to suppress the poison within you. Now that I've consumed the herbs at the spring's eye, I've gained a bit of the Yin-Yang Eye's power. If I use my blood…"
Dugu Bo, a master of poisons, immediately interrupted, "If you use your blood to cleanse my poison, your years of cultivation will be ruined."
Yu Tianming countered, "But what if we just use my blood as a catalyst, paired with some herbs that promote circulation and detoxification? Could we gradually guide the deeply rooted poison out?"
"If it's as you say, even if we can't transfer all of the poison into the soul bone, we can eliminate most of it," Dugu Bo said, eyes lighting up with hope as he added, "You've got a good head on your shoulders. Interested in learning the art of poison from me?"
Yu Tianming let out a helpless sigh—this was all Tang San's idea. How would he know how to detoxify someone? Even if he could learn it, he wasn't keen on picking up such tricks.
Instead, he pulled out a small jade vial, slit his finger, and let two milliliters of blood drip into it before tossing it to Dugu Bo. "I'm not interested in poison arts. Better to teach Yan Yan instead. Use this blood sparingly—a little at a time to gradually draw the poison out."
In the original story, Tang San gave Dugu Bo just one drop a day. Two milliliters was more than enough for two months.
Dugu Bo looked disappointed as he took the vial, but he said no more. Cradling Dugu Yan, he swiftly leapt away and returned to his cave dwelling halfway up the mountain.
He knew all too well the power of the Ice-Fire Yin-Yang Eye, which was why he never brought Yan Yan near it—he feared the aura might harm her.
Although the spiritual energy wasn't as violent on the ridge surrounding the spring, he still didn't want her staying nearby.
With that settled, Yu Tianming turned to Yu Yuanzhen in the distance and said, "Grandfather, it might be dangerous for Tianxin and Tianheng to get too close to the Yin-Yang Eye. Let me collect the herbs they need."
Yu Yuanzhen nodded in agreement. Yu Tianming spread his wings and glided toward the spring.
Not far from the Ice-Fire Yin-Yang Eye grew a few herbs that looked like ganoderma but had slight differences.
Farther from the spring were three pale-purple mushrooms, their caps shaped like lids and stems like emeralds. Each had nine leaves—these were Nine-Rank Purple Ganodermas. Though rare, they were not true immortal herbs.
Closer to the spring were two dark-purple mushrooms, also with nine leaves, but with dragon-like patterns curling along the surface. A faint golden shimmer pulsed from within—these were Nine-Rank Dragon Ganodermas, on par with the Nine-Rank Ginseng King, true immortal herbs.
According to the Immortal Herb Compendium, Nine-Rank Purple Ganoderma could evolve into Nine-Rank Dragon Ganoderma only by absorbing dragon aura over many years.
Apparently, these two matured under the influence of the Ice-Fire Yin-Yang Eye and the Dragon King's aura.
But why did Tang San, who clearly saw the Nine-Rank Dragon Ganoderma, hesitate and give Yu Xiaogang a mere Nine-Rank Purple one?
Did he forget that Luo Sanpao was a mutated form of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon?
Yu Tianming didn't linger. He quickly picked the two Nine-Rank Dragon Ganodermas and flew back to Yu Yuanzhen and the others, explaining:
"These are Nine-Rank Dragon Ganodermas. They strengthen the muscles and bones, stabilize the foundation, and greatly enhance dragon-type soul masters—boosting both their aptitude and bloodline."
Upon hearing this, Yu Tianxin and Yu Tianheng didn't rush to eat them. Instead, they asked, "Tianming, did you get any herbs for yourself?"
Yu Tianming answered gently, "These herbs don't do much to improve my bloodline anymore. At most, they can help strengthen my foundation. You two should take them instead."
Hearing this, the brothers said no more. They accepted the herbs, chewed them a few times, and swallowed.
