Chapter 2: Kitagawa Gen
Chapter 2: Kitagawa Gen
Kitagawa Gen was a transmigrator.
Even now, he could vividly remember that fateful day thirteen years ago—he had simply stepped outside for a walk and the next moment found himself staring down a runaway construction vehicle...
The timing of his transmigration wasn't exactly bad—but it wasn't great either.
He was three years older than the "Prince of Konoha" Naruto, which meant he missed the brutal Third Great Ninja War. But on the flip side, there was very little he could actually do about the events that followed.
Take last year for instance—Uchiha Itachi finally reached his moment of enlightenment, and decided to follow in Obito's footsteps by giving his clan a "filial send-off."
Every time he thought about that, Kitagawa couldn't help but sigh: Damn it, I transmigrated too late...
If he'd been a bit stronger, he could've at least tried to mine some value from the Uchiha clan before they were wiped out!
Luckily, he wasn't completely without hope—he had a system.
And in the ninja world, system-wielders weren't exactly rare. Naruto himself practically had a "plot armor system," and it was so overpowered he got nicknamed "Haxx Prince" by fans.
But even with a system, it didn't mean much—Naruto and Sasuke had still nearly died multiple times fighting top-tier threats. And unlike those who were born with golden bloodlines or ancient clan powers, Kitagawa's system required missions to earn rewards.
Compared to bloodline hacks, genius prodigies, and Uchiha plot twists, his system was basically "budget-tier."
Worst of all, even the so-called newbie gift pack that should've arrived right after transmigration... never showed up.
"I still can't believe I had to become an official ninja before I could even unlock my starter pack!" Kitagawa clenched his teeth in frustration.
Why did it have to be tied to Konoha's official registry? Did the universe really revolve around having a government job?
And now what? Chunin Exams were coming up soon—was he just meant to be cannon fodder?
Even if he survived those, the Fourth Great Ninja War was still waiting down the line. What was the point of transmigrating if it just meant trading one death flag for another?
Fortunately, his system also had side quests. And these, at least, offered rewards that could tip the scales.
Though... some of them were downright ridiculous.
Like the time he met Hinata and the system suggested: "Twin Sisters, Tasty Delights!"
Or when he bumped into Naruto and it popped up with: "Let Naruto smoke a cigarette with Pain over the ruins of Konoha."
Thankfully, side quests could be ignored. But if he accepted one and failed to complete it, he wouldn't be able to pick up new ones until it was done.
Also, if he skipped too many side quests, the system would judge him as too weak... and start assigning mandatory quests.
That's how he got stuck with "Become Kakashi's only disciple."
He had considered graduating early, but Konoha—still recovering from the war—was extremely strict about that. Only a prodigy like Uchiha Itachi got that kind of "special treatment." Everyone else had to follow procedure, and that basically killed his plans.

"Kakashi's Kenjutsu, huh? Not bad…" Gen murmured as he walked out of the hospital, flipping through his system menu—but his attention was locked onto the long-awaited starter gift pack.
Thirteen years!
Even Nezha was only in the womb for three years and six months, but he had waited thirteen whole years just for this one damn starter pack!
"Gen!"
Just as he was about to rush home and open it, a familiar voice called out behind him.
He turned to see Might Guy running over.
"Guy-sensei? What are you doing here?"
Gen immediately pulled himself together, greeted him with a smile, and jogged over.
He'd met Might Guy a few years ago while secretly training in taijutsu. Thanks to his familiarity with the Naruto world, Gen had quickly won Guy's trust and become close with him.
In fact, most of the abilities he had picked up outside of the Academy were "laundered" through Guy, which gave his training a legitimate cover story.
So, when Gen told Kakashi earlier that it was thanks to Guy's teachings, he wasn't lying.
"I heard something happened to your team." Guy gave him a once-over, eyes full of concern. "Are you alright? What happened? Did Kakashi mess up—?"
"I'm fine, Sensei." Gen waved his hand, smiling. "It wasn't kakashi-sensei's fault. We… made some mistakes ourselves."
He really didn't want to admit that his team self-destructed from internal conflict—especially since it was mostly his fault.
To complete the mission "Become Kakashi's only disciple," Gen had to make sure the other two members of the team got eliminated from consideration.
He remembered that one of Kakashi's former student teams had gone through a "brotherly conflict" arc, so the system probably assigned this task to him because of that.
So the moment his team was assigned, he got to work.
He spent time getting close to the others, constantly expressing his determination to become a ninja and proving his strength during training. On the day of the bell test, he even used every trick he had to make himself shine.
And when Kakashi gave them the bells and let them decide who would get them...
He didn't say a word.
He just handed the bells to the other two, and let them stew in the pressure. The result?
They turned on each other.
If they had shared the bells and passed as a team, fine. But if they tried to cheat him out and got caught, he had backup plans.
Even the speech he gave Kakashi at the hospital was tailored for either outcome.
"And it's all thanks to your training, Guy-sensei," Gen said sincerely, bowing slightly. "If not for you, I don't think I would've earned Kakashi-sensei's approval."
"Good! That's the spirit—wait, hold on!" Guy's expression shifted in surprise. "You mean... you passed Kakashi's test?"
"Yup." Gen nodded.
Guy grinned, slapped him on the back, and gave him a gleaming thumbs-up. "Nice! I was worried he'd be too harsh. Too bad I didn't get approved to take a genin squad—Kakashi really lucked out! This calls for a celebration! Let's run ten laps around Konoha together!"
[New Side Quest: "Outrun Might Guy!"]
Objective: Beat Guy-sensei in a lap around Konoha. Accept?
...Yeah, no thanks.
Gen smiled stiffly and declined without hesitation. He had more important things to do right now.
"Sensei, I just finished the test, and Kakashi told me to rest up and be ready for tomorrow, so..."
"Hm, fair point." Guy scratched his chin, then nodded. "Alright! In that case, I'll run for you! Twenty laps! This is the fire of youth!"
He struck a handstand, kicked up a trail of dust, and vanished into the distance like a green blur.
Gen finally let out a long breath, then sprinted toward his home.
He had waited so long to open this damn gift pack. He wasn't going to waste another second.
"If this thing doesn't give me something good," he muttered, "I swear I'm taking it down with me!"
Slamming the door open and kicking it shut behind him, he jumped onto the bed and called out in his mind:
"Open Starter Pack!"
A flash of light blinded his vision. His body trembled, and his breath quickened—then everything went dark.
He collapsed onto his bed as a cold, mechanical voice echoed in his mind:
[Starter Gift Pack Opened]
Reward Unlocked: Ōtsutsuki Bloodline (Unawakened)
Note: Please develop with care.
"…Huh?"
