Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Capturing The Kun, Master Yu Xiaogang

"I just happen to have 200 modification values, but how will the functions work after the system upgrade?" Zhang Fan asked curiously.

"Ding, the system has been upgraded. You can modify the plot, the dialogue, and even two words."

"Is there such a benefit?"

Zhang Fan didn't expect that this would involve more than just modifying the dialogue.

"Then it's a good deal for you, the system!" Zhang Fan said.

"Ding, 200 modification values consumed, upgrade started, countdown 10 seconds..."

Ten seconds later:

"Ding, the system has been upgraded to Level 2. The plot and dialogue can be modified five times a day, and two words can be modified."

"Good!" Zhang Fan nodded.

Three months later.

Zhang Fan had been practicing the Nine Yang Divine Art for half a month and felt very good about it, but he needed an additional spirit ring before entering the second level. He figured he'd handle that after arriving at Notting College.

"Xiao Fan, are you ready? Let's go to Notting College!" Grandpa Jack voice came from outside.

"Good!"

Zhang Fan walked out with a backpack, locked the door, and left.

"Yeah! Everything is ready!"

Grandpa jack noticed Zhang Fan seemed different—more composed, even kind-looking. They picked up Tang San and started the trip toward Notting College.

"When you become soul masters, you'll get a gold soul coin subsidy. Life will be easier then." Grandpa Jack said, looking hopeful.

"Okay." Zhang Fan and Tang San nodded.

"You'll be work-study students, doing some chores for food—like cleaning classrooms. But it's basically a free education!" Grandpa Jack explained.

"By the way, what's the difference between junior, middle, and high schools?" Tang San asked.

"Junior teaches basics, for kids who just awakened. It's six years.By twelve, if you lack talent, you can't upgrade. If you have talent, you move on to intermediate college. There are only two top-level soul master colleges in the Tiandou Empire. They enroll less than a hundred students each year. Graduates become nobility." Grandpa Jack said with pride.

"Oh!" Tang San nodded.

"When we get there, Xiao San, take good care of Xiao Fan. He's lost both parents and has no one else. You're more reliable." Grandpa Jack instructed.

"Need not!" Zhang Fan said firmly. Why would he need a brat to care for him?

Soon, they reached Notting College. A tall stone arch stood at the gate—twenty meters wide, ten meters tall. The iron gates barred entry, and the name "Notting College" hung above in bold characters.

At the entrance, a doorman looked down on them—clearly judging their patched clothes.

"What… what are you doing? This is Notting College! Not some place for country bumpkins like you!" The porter said with disdain.

"Little brother, I brought these two children to register as work-study students. What's the procedure?" Grandpa Jack asked politely.

"Two work-study students? From one village? Do you think I'm stupid? The college only allows one work-study student per village. Get lost before I make you." The doorman sneered.

Grandpa Jack grew visibly angry, but he pulled out Su Yuntao's certificate.

"Blue Silver Chicken spirit? Full innate soul power level 10?Tianlan Sword with level 7 soul power? Hah! Don't lie to me. A Blue Silver Chicken can't have level 10 soul power! This proof is clearly forged!" The doorman snapped.

"That second quota is from a neighboring village! Do you have proof it's forged?" Grandpa Jack countered, frustrated.

"Swoosh..."The doorman raised his hand to shove Jack.

"Ding, triggering the plot modification task."[Tang San took a step forward and grabbed the doorman's hand.]

Zhang Fan changed "手" (hand) to "坤" (Kun).

"Ding, the plot has been modified successfully. The plot is a bit crazy. Reward: 50 modification points."

Tang San stepped forward and grabbed the doorman's Kun.

"Ah..."The doorman screamed like a dying dog, legs clamped and waist bent.

"Uh..."Tang San blinked. He meant to grab the hand, not the Kun...

"You little brat... let me go!" The doorman yelled, clearly in pain.

"Stop!" A rooster-like voice called out.

"Swoosh..."

Zhang Fan rushed forward, and—

"Ah…da…"

A fist as large as a sandbag punched the doorman in the gut.

"Boom!" The man flew backward like a shrimp, skidding until he hit a tree.

"Vomit..."

He lost his lunch on the spot.

"You..."Yu Xiaogang stared in disbelief. This kid could hit hard.

But he didn't like Zhang Fan. Too reckless. Too independent.

He eyed Tang San instead—calmer, more thoughtful.

Zhang Fan retracted his fist and turned to look at the middle-aged man with disheveled hair, stubble, and dead eyes.

Yu Xiaogang, the man who copied the "Ten Core Competitive Theories of Martial Souls." A fake genius.

"Old man, prove it to me!" Zhang Fan challenged.

Yu Xiaogang lazily took the certificate and glanced it over.

"The seal is from the Martial Soul Hall branch. It's real. Congratulations, both of you have been admitted to Notting College."
