Cherreads

Chapter 1 - [ARC 1] Streetboy

Barcedes is a small city in the country of Wioletta, but just like today, it's busy. The sidewalk is crowded, the cars are playing their loud horns, and to make it worse it was raining and the pungent yet calming smell struck your nose.

When the stoplight turned red, all the cars stopped, they don't have a choice. Next, the pedestrians crossed the lane. Some are running for they don't have umbrella, and some are taking their time.

Eventually, the lane cleared of people and revealed a lonely person sitting in front of a convenience store.

Its light yellow hair flowed through the chilling wind and the gaze in its different colored eyes are genuine. On the right was a deep blue with so much soul, and on the left was a lime green with so much light.

One thing about its body though, its skin stuck to its bones and the cheeks looked like they were sucked out. Its body is alarmingly small, the white shirt it wore looked like a dress on it. The white shirt is not even clean, it have dark dirt of dusts and on its skin.

"Man, it's been raining again and again." He's just a boy, presumably a homeless person. He pressed his knees close to the chest as the cold wind embraced his tiny body.

Then, steps away from him, a woman with an open umbrella approached an older woman and the boy in front of the convenience store overheard their conversation.

"Excuse me, do you know where to find the carplane driving school?" Asked the woman with an open umbrella.

"I'm not very familiar with this city either." The older woman walked away. "I don't even know about technological advancements nowadays."

When the boy saw the opportunity, he approached the woman who needed directions.

"Ciao, is there anything I can help you?"

The woman checked him out first and sighed, in her mind was a little doubt.

A beggar? But he seems trustworthy… "Boy, do you know where the carplane driving school is?"

"Of course! You can cross to this lane. Then walk till the next stoplight, then turn right, and just keep walking straight." He raised his left hand, pointing to the right. "There will be another stoplight but cross the lane again and walk straight."

The lady nodded with so much understanding.

"You'll see a gas station there, then, beside it is the driving school!"

"I'm looking for a driving school for carplanes okay? Not cars."

The boy traced a huge circle with both of his arms. "It's for carplane! Carplane!"

"Thank you, I'll get going."

"The place is very big!" He waved at the woman though she could not have seen it but in his face was genuine joy that his eyes are squeezed.

"Are you hungry, little guy?"

The boy's ears twitched upon hearing the words from behind. He assumed the voice was talking to him so he turned around and saw a guy in a suit.

He eyed the guy and before he even opened his mouth, the well-groomed man spoke. "Here, take this."

The man offered him a plastic and inside it is definitely a bread. The boy have no reason to refuse food even if it's from a stranger so he took the plastic and said. "Thank you, you are so kind."

His eyes sparkled and there's an even wider smile on his face. The man did not say anything back and left.

When the boy sat back to where he was earlier, he quickly opened the plastic. His face lightened up again, the contents of it is really bread and it's a bun (probably filled).

But then, when he took a closer look at the bread, his smile faded. Not necessarily because he's not satisfied about the bread, he just noticed something.

"It have molds…" His voice fell. But he took a sudden bite on the molded part of the bread, and a genuine smile cut through his cheeks. "Worry not, it's still bread!"

His happiness shot the top even more when a thick red filling peeked in the middle of the bread. He wiggled his body, oh boy! He's in heaven.

And then, when the rain weakened, he walked down the streets and ended up in front of a public drinking water station still carrying some of the bread earlier. The water is free and you can choose whether you want it hot or cold. There was a problem though.

"Crap! I left my cup on my lovely house. I didn't expect I'd eat today." The boy put a finger on his small lips. "Now, I can't get inside the playground because I scare the stupid kids away."

He looked around and his face lightened up again. He approached a nearby trash can loaded with all kinds of junk and waste.

"Let's see what we got here mystery box." He began to rummage on the trash can not bothered at how filthy it will get.

"An Edoc cup! How luxurious! It's dirty, but we can wash it off!" He lifted his hand that held a paper cup. Edoc is a popular fast food chain in Wioletta, now he felt like eating from one.

He pressed on the button that makes the water cold and washed the cup first before filling it with the water he will drink. After drinking it all, he sighed happily and spoke. "Ah yes, the one thing that keeps me alive. The government isn't as bad as I thought."

"Wait, have I already introduced myself?" He put the cup on the counter of the water station.

"Unluckily for you, I'm the main character of this story!" He put his hands on his waist and chuckled. But then, he covered his ears and closed his eyes shut, a lightning just cut through the sky paired with a loud roar.

When the rain poured back down even worse than earlier, he ran away. His dirty cloth quickly got soaked in water like he showered as a choice. Fortunately, he reached an empty park.

"Look, I'm so malnourished, I can shed anywhere!" He quickly crawled under a round table. The noise of the rain striking the table rang through his ears but it's still too quiet.

"My name is Ylvin, 16, a dummy." He pressed his knees to his chest again. "My life depends on the weather, just like today…" He sighed. "It's like a child having tantrums."

Ylvin turned quiet though more thunders roared. "ACKKK! I gonna pee!" Ylvin rushed to stand and bumped his head. He rubbed his head trying not to squeal. "I can't even pull a little drama."

It had not stopped raining yet, but he crawled out the table as the nature is calling him. Near that park was a forest and he ran towards it.

"The lucky tree is… YOU!" Ylvin pointed at the tall trees to choose and relieved himself on the chosen one.

Then, he removed his shirt, wrung it and hanged it on a different tree's branch. He did all that he can to pass the time, he needed to wait for his shirt to dry and the rain to stop. But he don't have the choice, it's getting darker in the forest and it scares him.

The rain stopped eventually, and it's almost night. The clouds are still gray but the shy sunset peeked through the gaps. The two moons are now also becoming visible, now is their time. Ylvin adorned his surroundings as he strolled down the street and after that, he arrived at a playground nearby a school.

"Hola, Aloha!" Ylvin greeted the security guard.

"You're kind of late today, huh" The security guard replied but Ylvin said nothing.

Instead, he approached a dog house behind the playground's garden. "Home sweet home!"

This is where Ylvin lived, a filthy dog house. It's small for a normal sized adult, but with Ylvin's tiny body, he fits right like a lock and a key. He sat beside the dog house and took the plastic with bread.

"Now, our dinner for today is…" Ylvin raised the bread. "TA-DA! The bread from earlier! I already ate the molds tho"

He ate his bread quietly, he wasn't living the life of a luxury but he's happier than most of us. But just as Ylvin was enjoying peace, blinding light flashed upon him.

Cars had arrived from both sides of the road in front of him, and it's not a good sign.

"Shit, here they are." Ylvin jumped behind a hedge.

"Give it up already!" A guy from the party on the left side fired firearms.

"Shut up!" A man from the right threw a grenade, and the next thing Ylvin heard was a loud explosion.

Right, it's not just the weather. My life also depends… on the people around me.

Ylvin tried his best to eat in peace as war broke out behind him. The sound of the guns are beating his ears but he should stay calm for he doesn't want to gather attention from neither of the gangs. It would be really ugly for him.

Meanwhile, a guy carrying a colt commando like a bat ran to another guy drinking a bottle of brandy. He hit him with the colt commando instead of using it right but the other guy blocked it with the bottle of brandy. The glass bottle broke and he thrust the broken glass in his hands to the neck of the guy with the commando.

The guy lose balance and gripped his neck tightly rolling on the ground, but the blood squirted from the cut nonstop.

There's a lot of other men shooting each other with their guns, it's almost a small war. Some are also fighting with knives, repeatedly stabbing each other on the body, no one knows who will last.

On another side, there was a guy being riddled with bullets. The one with the gun had a sly smile on his face but it didn't last long for behind him was a tall guy.

The tall guy stabbed him behind his head and it's not enough to satisfy him. He repeatedly stabbed the face of the dead man blinded by his foul desires. Terribly that it doesn't look human anymore, it looked like crushed tomatoes. The tall guy's hands are now also washed by the blood and even devilishly licked the blood that spluttered on his lips.

"Ylvin, get in here. I already called the police" The security guard whispered as he hid behind a nearby slide. Ylvin tried his best to sneak out, but then he felt a presence behind him. It was the tall guy.

"Huh, what did you say again?" The man grabbed Ylvin by the hair, and pointed the bleeding knife at him. The security guard quickly racked the slide of his handgun, but he can't just move impulsively.

Ylvin stared at the knife, one wrong move, and he'll be wounded. Just like that, suddenly, death is in front of me…

"He said!" Ylvin heard a familiar voice. The criminal looked behind to see a policeman with a weird gun aimed at him. Then, Ylvin kicked the criminal on the balls. "He called the police!"

The tips of the gun of the policeman spun around, and generated a fireball. Then, he shot the criminal on the head. The head burned then, exploded. The next thing you know, all the remaining thugs left in a hurry.

"Ismaya, you are so cool!" Ylvin wiggled his body and Ismaya placed a hand on his head.

"Saving an irrelevant child while letting the hoodlums go, you're too mental for your rank" The security guard spoke.

"I have thousands of excuse ready." Ismaya is rather relaxed.

"I see, that's why you can now use this… GUN!" Ylvin attempted to steal the gun from Ismaya, but the man raised his hand quickly. "Gimme! Gimme!" Ylvin tried to reach for the gun but he's too short.

"Actually, I'm not supposed to be here"

"But you knew Ylvin is here see, you're really mental"

As they were talking, police cars came. Then one, two policemen came out of one of the cars.

"I see, the criminals got away even when you're here" Said the short and stout policeman.

"Seriously, why did you rank up? Go back to your office, and eat some donut" Said the tall and slim policeman.

Even though the policemen spoke ill of Ismaya, he is inattentive, Ismaya is talking with Ylvin.

"I see, you ranked up that's why we rarely see each other"

"I really want to meet you, but my schedules are messy" Ismaya was suddenly tensed, and shaky.

"Don't worry, it's not a big deal." Ylvin crossed his arms.

"I'm sorry, but you really looked like you're sulking…"

"My first appearance and I'm being ignored? Ms. Author how could you let this be?" The slim policeman complained (how dare him).

"Have you eaten? I'll treat you dinner." Ismaya continued to talk to Ylvin.

"No, thank you."

"Are you sure?"

"Maybe tomorrow."

"Okay…"

"Also, if you'll treat me tomorrow, it should be at lunch time." Ylvin raised his right point finger. "Because I can still endure hunger till lunch and I'll be full till night."

"How can you survive for that long?"

"AH!" It seems Ylvin remembered something. "Can I have that dead guy's jacket?" Ylvin pointed at a corpse on the road.

"Sure but we will have it inspected first" The short policeman answered.

"Thank you, you're not as bad as Ismaya says" Ylvin spoke. Ismaya screeched.

Darkness almost ate every corners of the room. There's nothing here but a maze of mirrors that seemed endless. But, there was a light peak somewhere, and a girl on a school uniform was following that only light. The girl has tears on her face, and she sweat profusely.

She is not alone, she is being chased. There's another girl behind her, approaching, slowly. She is only walking but the crying girl feels her presence… she's here.

The calmer girl is tanned compared to the other. She have a warm brown hair on pigtails, and some bangs. With a pair of big purple eyes, and her lips are plump. She really looked like a normal girl with how she dress. But when she touched one of the mirrors, she smiled, and revealed her fangs. The next thing you know, all the mirrors showed this very same face of her smiling devilishly.

The crying girl covered her ears, closed her eyes shut and spoke in a trembling voice. "Please, I want to go home!"

The girl on pigtails made a trident made of glass. Then she sat on it like a witch's broom. "Looks like heaven will become your new home!"

Later, the other girl reached the middle of the maze where the light from the chandelier was. That changed nothing.

"LASAGNAAAAAAAAA!" The girl on pigtail screamed. It's not a simple scream, it was a high frequency scream, and it broke all the mirrors into pieces.

"No way." The innocent girl immediately knew her fate.

Then, the girl on pigtails snapped her fingers. In that instant, the sharp glass shards rained down on the other girl in the middle of the maze. Glass pierced her throat, head, limbs, chest, everywhere. Her right hand was amputated, her left eye flew away. When the dead body fell, it became an instant blood bath. Blood gushed from every wound like fountain. There, the dead girl lied on the floor like a newly made statue. So eerie, yet the mirrors stuck on her delicate skin reflected the light from the chandelier, sickeningly beautiful.

The other girl approached the dead body, and picked up the eye that flew away. "The eye of agony." She stared on it with her face devoid of expressions. Then, suddenly, all the lights are on. She looked back.

"Looks like I failed to supervise my beloved sister again." Said a tall guy, sitting on a big box, with some tea. He have the same tan, brown hair, and purple eyes as the girl (The pupil of the left eye is a cross). But he wore a more detailed suit compared to the girl who wore casual clothing. Still, you can tell that they are related to each other.
