Chapter 2 - Recipe 2: Chocolate brownies

Ingredients:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8x8 inch (20x20 cm) baking pan.

Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, eggs, and vanilla.

Add cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until well combined. Fold in nuts or chocolate chips if using.

Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Cool, then cut into squares and enjoy!
