Chapter 19 - The Garbage Man

What the hell?

That aggressive?

Su Ba's face darkened slightly.

The gate guard already had the strength of a late-stage Three-Star martial artist, nearly equivalent to the Phantom Night Academy's Head Instructor Yan Hua. If things escalated, Su Ba would definitely be at a disadvantage in a direct fight.

Not to mention… The lost recruitment token was technically his fault.

Su Ba took a deep breath, calming himself, and spoke evenly.

"I truly am here for the advancement examination. If you contact Recruiter Xia Hang, he'll confirm it."

"I told you to get lost. Are you deaf?"

The rugged-faced guard scowled with open hostility, waving him off with disdain.

"Every year, idiots like you try to sneak in and tour the institute. You think this place is for one-star trash like you?!"

"Get lost before I make you regret it!"

The guard had already been in a foul mood after arguing with his wife the night before. Now, seeing this "nobody" try to waltz into Yunmeng Martial Institute, he was all too eager to take his frustration out on someone.

The thin, sharp-featured guard beside him knew his partner wasn't in a good mood. Though he felt the words were a bit harsh, he said nothing.

In his eyes, this kid looked like an average commoner—only mid-stage One-Star. No way he was someone who'd been recruited.

"Tch. What a dog looking down on people."

Su Ba narrowed his eyes and spoke coolly.

If they wouldn't show him respect, there was no need to stay polite.

"What did you say?!"

The rugged guard's eyes widened. Clang! Half of the long sword at his side suddenly slid from its sheath, gleaming with a sharp, cold light.

But Su Ba no longer paid him any attention.

Hands clasped behind his back, he turned calmly and walked to the side.

There were people in this world consumed by negativity, negativity who needed somewhere to dump it.

And sometimes, they dumped it on whoever happened to be nearby.

In Su Ba's eyes, this gate guard was exactly that kind of person.

A garbage man.

No reason to waste words with trash.

If he couldn't enter now, then fine—he'd wait right here for Recruiter Xia Hang to arrive. He could personally explain how he lost the token.

"Son of a—!"

He was being ignored?!

A vein bulged on the gate guard's forehead.

Already pissed off, now he saw Su Ba turn his back like he was nothing. Fury erupted from his chest straight to his head.

"You piece of trash, when I tell you to scram, you scram!"

With a roar, the guard stormed forward and raised his hand, ready to bring it down on Su Ba's head!

Fwoosh!

A sharp whoosh split the air!

Su Ba's expression sharpened.

He hadn't expected this guy to actually attack—and in broad daylight on the streets of Fengwu City, no less!

But with no other options, he'd fight back head-on!

Mid One-Star vs. Late Three-Star?

So what?!

Su Ba's veins bulge with power. The Nine Yang True Essence surged through his body. He was ready to block the first strike and counter immediately—with his past life's combat mastery and refined technique, even this kind of opponent wasn't unbeatable.

But just then—

Whoosh!

A streak of white light flashed across Su Ba's vision!

Boom!

A white blur slammed directly into the guard's chest with a heavy thud!

"Ah!"

The guard cried out in pain, stumbling backward several steps before falling flat on his butt!

Woof! Woof! Woof—! Woof! Woof!

The white blur landed—

And revealed itself to be none other than a small, snowy-white puppy!

It stood tall, hind legs straight and front paws bent into a combative stance. Its sharp little fangs were bared, and it growled menacingly at the guard like a tiny warrior facing down a monster.
