Chapter 23 - Half Face reappearance

The revenant with half a face stared at Kev intensely before licking its lips in delight.

There was a sweet scent coming from his body that it found irresistible.

Kev had carried this scent the first time they met, but now it had grown stronger.

The ritual he had performed to gain a class might be the culprit behind it, but nothing could be said for sure.

Except for one undeniable fact.

He had become more attractive to Revenants.

Which was not a good thing in any sense of the word, as it only meant more trouble.

An intense and irrefutable urge filled Half Face's heart.

It wanted to chop Kev into pieces and eat him in a refined and graceful manner, like a gentleman.

Which, in its twisted mind, meant gobbling down one huge chunk of his flesh after another.

It believed that after devouring him, it would grow even more perfect.

So it gave in to its urges and approached Kev with insidious intention at a brisk pace. Large nails grew from the rotten flesh around its fingers, extending toward his vulnerable throat.

In that moment, a lot of changes took place.

Kev's body stopped overheating. His temperature rapidly dropped, returning to normal. Then, it plunged to unusual level.

Every drop of blood he had shed since the ritual began surged back into his body.

His cracked skin healed.

A lot of memories emerged in his mind.

The air around him shifted completely, turning cold and oppressive. Even with his eyes closed, he was giving off the impression off a massive, thousand-year-old iceberg even.

Lastly, an inexplicable sense of danger began to radiate from his very being.

This feeling was so tangible that even Half Face felt it.

Its hand, which had been stretching toward Kev's throat, trembled and froze in place.

It didn't understand why, but it suddenly felt endangered as if it was a prey standing before an enraged, bloodthirsty predator!

But how could that be?

It was a flesh-eating monster that relished devouring humans.

They were among its top ten favorite meals!

Kev should be its prey, not the other way around.

It reasoned despite lacking a brain.

And yet… it couldn't bring itself to resume its assault on his life.

There was this bone-deep instinct, screaming at it that if it dared continue from where it left off... It would die instantly.

This feeling was so overwhelming, so absolute, it couldn't help but bow down to it, pulling back its hand that had grown long and sharp nails.

All of this happened in the blink of an eye.

From the time it launched a lethal strike to reap his life to Kev undergoing earth-shaking changes that altered the very air around him, it seemed like a long time had passed, but in actuality, it was only a moment.

Like every other moment before it, this moment too was destined to pass.

And when it did, Kev's eyes snapped open.

It leaped back in terror. If it had a face, its expression would be one of shock.

Kev's eyes... they no longer resembled those of a human.

They were pitch black, like two bottomless pits with not a hint of light in them, their depths seemingly immeasurable like the depths of the abyss itself.

From his seated position, he calmly raised his head and fixed the conflicted and terrified monster standing before him with a gaze so sinister it would send chill down anyone's spine.

"Your senses are quite sharp. You stopped in the middle of courting death. If you had continued with your pitiful attempt on my life, I would've struck you dead instead of focusing on and savoring the changes I was undergoing.

But now that that's out of the way... it's my turn to make an attempt on your life.

It's only fair, isn't it? After all, you've aimed for mine three times. Although you failed each one, that's on you.

Now please struggle fiercely. I want to try out my new powers on you," Kev opened his mouth and said.

Half face didn't wait for him to finish his words.

It turned out and bolted, fearing for its life.

Its senses weren't wrong. Having evolved into a special type low level class holder Kev indeed held the power to threaten its life.

But it had greatly underestimated the power he had gained from performing the ritual.

It was immense like the ocean, not something it could escape from just because it wanted to!

Kev didn't care if it understood him or not.

Without sparing another second on nonsense, he lowered his gaze, staring at the shadow it cast on the floor under the light of the glowstone embedded in the ceiling of the room.

Within a heartbeat, he felt like he had gained control over it, a formless energy connecting him to its shadow.

This wasn't just a feeling.

He could really manipulate it at his will.

"Kill!" he uttered powerfully.

Shadows erupted from the ground, becoming a weapon that aimed for half face's life.

Before it knew it, it was stabbed.

A stake made purely of shadow pierced its back and burst out of its chest, flesh, blood, and innards splashing across the floor.

A gaping hole was left in its body. Dark red blood dripped from it continuously.

A single word from Kev had reduced an evolved revenant to a pitiful state.

If the Abyss Deweller came to know about it, they would become fearful of him.

His strength.

It was.

Terrifying!
