After Jill finished arming herself, the two left the room and went further to explore the mansion.
After stepping out, Aiden walked a bit faster, directly taking the lead. His action directly made Jill, who was pushed aside, unhappy.
This strong-willed woman thought Aiden was deliberately trying to show off, so when they passed a corner in the corridor, she quickened her pace and took the lead in front of Aiden.
Aiden was stunned for a moment. He looked back and then asked in a low voice, "Ms. Valentine, what do you mean by this?"
Jill had already arrived at a room's door and was using her inherited superb lockpicking skills to unlock it. Hearing Aiden's words, she said unkindly, "You looked just like a rooster trying to attract a mate earlier."
'A rooster... attracting a mate?'
"Seems like you misunderstood me, Ms. Valentine. Although you're stunningly beautiful." Aiden smiled wryly. He knew his earlier behavior had made Jill think the wrong way.
He wasn't trying to show off in front of Jill. Mainly, he knew that after Alpha Team got separated in the mansion, their captain, Wesker, had been secretly monitoring them. Maybe he was even following them right now.
Aiden didn't want to be suddenly shot in the back by Wesker. After all, to Wesker, he was a bug that accidentally entered his already written script.
Obviously, Jill didn't understand what Aiden meant.
Aiden didn't feel like explaining further. Seeing Jill had unlocked the door, he reached out his hand and made a gentlemanly "please go ahead" gesture to Jill.
What he got in return was a big eye-roll from Jill.
After entering the room, the two began searching. Of course, compared to Jill, Aiden looked much less interested. He just flipped a few things, then leaned against the wall holding his gun and looked up at the ceiling.
This place felt kind of familiar to him.
He thought for a bit, walked to the door, opened the door that Jill had closed earlier, and leaned against it with his gun.
At that moment, Jill made a new discovery on her side. Inside a display case in a small side room, she found a Remington shotgun fully loaded with bullets.
"Aiden, look! Guess what I found?" Jill excitedly waved the newly found shotgun at Aiden from across the room.
But before she could enjoy it for long, she suddenly heard a light "click" sound in the room, which gave her quite a scare.
"Did you hear that? Aiden," Jill asked.
"Of course." Aiden nodded. He patted the door he was leaning on and said, "You probably triggered a trap in the room."
"A trap?" Jill became alert and rushed out of the side room, then looked around sharply, but nothing in the room had changed—no suddenly falling paintings, no suddenly cracked walls—everything looked just like when they first came in.
"Seems like... nothing changed." Jill said uncertainly.
"Indeed, nothing changed. Looks like you're lucky. The trap failed." Aiden grinned.
"Really?" Jill looked at the shotgun in her hand doubtfully but didn't think too much. She believed, just like Aiden said, that the trap failed.
So she left the side room satisfied. Although Aiden had already given her a shotgun, she didn't think one more was too many.
As she passed by Aiden, Jill shoved the newly found shotgun into his arms.
"I'll find a rifle to give back to you," Jill said, then walked out of the room.
Watching Jill's back as she left, Aiden shook his head and followed.
However, just as he walked away, the door he had been leaning against suddenly slammed shut, and a sound of gears turning echoed through the room.
The trap... had activated.
Jill, who was just about to enter another room, was startled by the sound. She glanced at Aiden, who was walking over expressionlessly, then looked at the room they had just been in. A thought suddenly flashed through her mind.
'He saved me. I almost became a sandwich.'.
Although Aiden couldn't directly reveal the plot, he could still prevent some dangerous events in the story from happening.
But because of that, Jill became certain that he must know the mansion's secrets.
Even after searching through several rooms, Jill still kept pressing with questions. And Aiden kept answering that he had happened to see some schematics of the mansion's mechanisms on a computer in another room.
Of course Jill didn't believe him. Just as she was about to question him for the tenth time, her walkie-talkie suddenly buzzed.
A mature male voice came from the walkie-talkie, [Jill, where are you now?]
Hearing this voice, Aiden of course knew who it was—Barry, the one being blackmailed by Wesker through threats to his family and had become a mole.
"I... I'm still inside the mansion. What about you?" Jill glanced at Aiden and replied. She didn't mention his presence to Barry.
"That's good, Jill. Stay inside the mansion and don't go to the small cabin next to it. There are very dangerous monsters there. Don't—" Barry's words were cut off as the communication was interrupted.
Jill worriedly called Barry's name a few times through the walkie-talkie but got no response. She barely resisted the urge to throw the walkie-talkie and cursed, "Damn it. I've said before, those supply guys should've been dragged out and shot."
Then she turned to Aiden and said, "Aiden, something's wrong on Barry's side. I think…"
She didn't really need to say it like that, but thinking about how Aiden might have just saved her, this respectable female officer suddenly felt a bit embarrassed.
"You want to go look for him, right?"
Jill nodded, "Of course. You don't have to come. I think staying in the mansion is safer."
Indeed, apart from the traps that hadn't been triggered yet, the zombies and B.O.W.s in the mansion had almost all been dealt with. Staying here was definitely a good choice.
However, how could Aiden possibly give up the chance to accompany Jill? He patted his rifle and said, "I'll go with you. One more person means more strength, doesn't it?"
Jill looked at Aiden, and a touched expression appeared on her face. "Aiden, no matter what, you've earned more of my trust."
"Thank you very much, Jill." Aiden smiled slightly, and smoothly changed the way he addressed her.
Next, the two prepared to leave the mansion to find the small cabin.
In fact, they didn't need to search at all. After coming out of another exit of the mansion, they saw a narrow path. At the end of the path, there seemed to be a small cabin.
Aiden knew what was there, so his expression turned serious at that moment. He started checking his guns and ammunition to make sure nothing would go wrong in a fight.
Jill looked at him curiously. Back in the mansion, Aiden had never been this serious. Even when they were surrounded by zombies, he calmly pulled the trigger.
When Jill couldn't hold back her curiosity and asked, she got a completely unexpected answer, "I don't want to become a dad-mom."
"Men can't become moms."
Suddenly, Jill felt she needed to help Aiden review junior high biology. But after thinking about it, she figured now wasn't the time.
However, when Aiden took out the bayonet tucked into the simple sheath on his leg to examine it, Jill couldn't hold back anymore. She threw a mock punch at Aiden and took the lead onto the path.
After walking for a short while, a small cabin appeared in front of them.
Then, they saw the "girl" wandering in front of the cabin—the experimental subject Lisa.
This poor girl had long been tortured into something unrecognizable. Having lost most of her consciousness, all that remained in her was one idea etched into her genes—to find her mother.
Aiden didn't know why, in the game's story, Lisa knocked Jill unconscious but didn't peel off her face. But one thing was certain—Lisa definitely wouldn't show mercy to him.
Sure enough, after spotting the two, Lisa immediately lunged at them, shouting a garbled word, "Mom…"
At this moment, Aiden didn't care whether Lisa was pitiful or not. She was already a monster. He immediately fired a few shots at Lisa—but it had no effect. Ordinary methods couldn't harm her at all.
Aiden showed an "I knew it" expression and shouted, "Jill, don't waste bullets! Let's go!"
He had only come with Jill to find Barry. Only a fool would waste ammo on a monster that can't be killed.
Jill nodded, but she was a bit anxious, because she hadn't seen any sign of Barry.
The two could only fight while retreating, but Lisa couldn't be killed, and they couldn't shake her off for the moment.
Aiden was getting anxious because Lisa's target was always him. Even though Jill had been closer to her several times, Lisa never changed her target.
Jill noticed this, and hearing the garbled word from Lisa, she still had the mood to joke.
"Aiden, she's calling you 'mom'!"
Aiden crouched down and fired a longer burst. While doing so, he glanced at Jill and got up angrily. "I don't want to be a dad-mom..."
