Chapter 1 - Prologue: 7?

In the Realm of Astrid, a land steeped in history and myth, there exist seven distinct empires, each a reflection of humanity's deepest flaws and greatest strengths. These empires, forged through centuries of relentless warfare, strategic alliances, and cultural evolution, embody the seven deadly sins: Greed, Lust, Envy, Wrath, Gluttony, Sloth, and Pride.

• The empire of "Greed," also known as Avarice, is strategically located in the resource-rich northern mountains, a region blessed with an abundance of precious metals and rare minerals. This advantageous position has propelled Greed to become the most powerful empire in Astrid. Its mines yield vast quantities of gold, silver, and, most importantly, the rare minerals astrarium and solarium. Astrarium, with its mystical properties, is essential for enchanting weapons and armor, imbuing them with extraordinary power. Solarium, on the other hand, powers advanced technology, from intricate clockwork mechanisms to formidable war machines. These resources fuel a robust economy, a well-equipped army renowned for its discipline and valor, and advanced weaponry that gives them a significant edge in battle. Greed is also revered as the birthplace of Anya the Steadfast, the first hero of Astrid, whose legendary sword, "Avarice," is said to be capable of cleaving mountains with a single blow. Statues of Anya adorn every city square, and her principles of diligence, ambition, and strategic acquisition are deeply ingrained in their culture, granting them considerable influence and respect throughout the realm. However, their wealth and power make them a constant target for envious adversaries seeking to plunder their riches. For example, the Empire of Envy, driven by a burning desire for what Greed possesses, has launched numerous incursions to seize control of vital mining operations and steal priceless artifacts associated with Anya the Steadfast. These attacks, though consistently repelled by Greed's formidable defenses, serve as a constant reminder of the price of power and the vigilance required to maintain it.

• The empire of "Lust," also known as Voluptas, is nestled in the fertile southern plains, a land of abundant beauty and sensual pleasures. Unlike the other empires, Lust operates under a unique matriarchal system, where women hold positions of authority and influence, while men primarily serve as laborers, artisans, and entertainers. Queen Lyra, a charismatic and cunning ruler, commands a legion of skilled huntresses and assassins, each meticulously trained in the arts of combat, espionage, and deception. Their mastery of stealth and infiltration allows them to control vital trade routes and gather intelligence that gives them a significant advantage over their rivals. This control, combined with their strategic location, makes Lust the second most powerful empire in Astrid. However, their power is limited by their inherent arrogance and deep-seated disdain for men, which often leads to internal strife and undermines their potential. For example, talented male warriors are frequently overlooked for leadership roles, regardless of their skill or experience, which often compromises their battle strategies and tactical decisions. This prejudice also stifles innovation, hindering progress in technology, art, and other fields, preventing Lust from reaching its full potential.

• The empire of "Wrath," also known as Furor, was forged in the harsh and unforgiving volcanic plains, a land of fire and brimstone. Despite lacking the advanced technology of Greed or the cunning espionage of Lust, Wrath boasts the largest army in Astrid, composed of warriors renowned for their unmatched ferocity, unwavering loyalty, and relentless aggression. This makes them the third strongest empire in the realm. In a direct confrontation, Wrath's sheer numbers and unwavering determination could potentially challenge even the might of Greed. However, their war efforts are significantly hampered by the hostile volcanic environment, which makes farming incredibly difficult and leads to chronic food shortages. Frequent volcanic eruptions disrupt supply lines, damage fortifications, and displace entire communities, constantly straining their resources. Internal power struggles, fueled by ambition and unchecked rage, also deplete their resources and undermine their military strategy, preventing Wrath from fully realizing its potential and solidifying its position as a dominant force in Astrid.

• The empire of "Gluttony," also known as Gula, is renowned throughout Astrid as one of the richest kingdoms, primarily due to its exceptionally fertile lands and mastery of agriculture. Their ability to produce an abundance of food, delicacies, and fine wines has made them a center of culinary arts and a sought-after trading partner. However, this vast wealth has also led to widespread decadence, complacency, and a general lack of ambition, preventing them from developing a military force strong enough to compete with the top three empires. Despite their lack of military prowess, Gluttony's vast stores of food and resources allow them to withstand prolonged sieges and make them a difficult target to conquer, as any invading army would face the daunting prospect of depleting their own supplies while trying to starve out a kingdom overflowing with sustenance.

• The empire of "Sloth," also known as Acedia, is paradoxically renowned throughout Astrid as the birthplace of countless talented individuals, possessing exceptional skills in art, science, magic, and philosophy. Their cities are filled with brilliant minds capable of groundbreaking discoveries and breathtaking artistic creations. However, their inherent laziness, lack of ambition, and aversion to hard work prevent them from harnessing their potential and achieving the same level of power and influence as the top four empires. Their cities are filled with brilliant minds who prefer leisurely pursuits, intellectual debates, and artistic endeavors to the hard work required for military or economic dominance, choosing contemplation over conquest and comfort over competition.

• The empire of "Pride," also known as Superbia, adheres to a strict and unwavering policy of racial purity, exclusively permitting pure-blooded elves within its borders. This rigid social structure, fueled by an unwavering belief in elven superiority, dictates that half-elves, regardless of their talents, skills, or contributions, are relegated to the status of slaves, denied basic rights, and subjected to harsh and dehumanizing treatment. This deeply stratified society is marked by resentment, oppression, and a simmering undercurrent of rebellion, as the half-elf population yearns for freedom and equality, threatening to destabilize the empire from within.

• The empire of "Envy," also known as Invidia, could also be called the Betrayer, as they infamously betrayed their birthplace and former allies in a desperate bid for survival against a wave of powerful invaders. This act of treachery has earned them the scorn and distrust of many in Astrid, forever staining their reputation and isolating them from potential allies. Their actions are a constant reminder of the lengths to which they will go to secure their own survival, even at the expense of others.
