Chapter 9: Does Hell Girl Really Exist?

—————————

Morning at Aoshiro Private High School.

Aida Daichi carried his backpack as he approached the school gates, his expression tinged with reluctance.

At most schools, the entrance buzzed with students laughing and chatting. But at Aoshiro Private High, some students in uniform moved quickly, their faces uneasy, rarely walking side by side or talking.

The atmosphere was oddly quiet.

But soon, Aida Daichi caught the sound of voices. Turning, he saw a group of students walking together. A glance at their dyed hair told him they were delinquents.

After a quick look and not spotting a familiar face, he breathed a small sigh of relief. He picked up his pace, heading into the school, only to hear a shout from behind before reaching his classroom.

"Hey… Daichi."

The familiar voice made Aida Daichi's body tremble instinctively. He didn't dare keep walking. Forcing a weak, subservient smile, he turned. "Yuto-nii."

Iwakuro Yuto stepped forward, slinging an arm around Aida Daichi's shoulders with a grin. "Let's hit the arcade today. Your treat."

"Uh…" Aida Daichi hesitated. "But Yuto-nii, I already treated everyone a few days ago. Shouldn't it be your turn?"

"What'd you say?"

Feeling the stares of nearby students, Aida Daichi shrank back, stammering, "Sorry, Yuto-nii, my mistake. It's my treat today."

The onlookers' gazes felt like torture, grinding his dignity into the dirt. His chest tightened, his breathing shallow.

Iwakuro Yuto snorted, eyeing Aida Daichi. Suddenly, a smirk curled his lips. He leaned in and whispered something in his ear.

Aida Daichi's pupils shrank. He stared at Iwakuro Yuto, disbelief flooding his eyes.

"See you this afternoon," Iwakuro Yuto said with a chuckle.

Once the trio walked off, Aida Daichi trudged back to class.

Many of the boys in his classroom shot him mocking looks when he entered. But since he was Iwakuro Yuto's prey, they left him alone—unspoken rules.

Aoshiro High was a delinquent school. No one paid attention in class; the room was a constant din of noise.

At lunch, Aida Daichi bought food from the school store.

He avoided the cafeteria—Iwakuro Yuto and his crew always ate there. If they spotted him, they'd torment him again.

Back in the classroom, he exhaled in relief.

"…Whoa, seriously?"

"It's real. It popped up on 2ch last night and got pinned. They say if you enter the name of someone you hate on this 'Hell Correspondence' site, Hell Girl will show up and drag them to hell."

"That's freaky."

"Sounds fake, though. If it were real, society would be a mess. And half our class would be hell-bound by now."

"Pfft, true."

Hell Girl?

Aida Daichi's ears perked up. He glanced over—two delinquent girls with yellow-dyed hair were chatting.

He opened his mouth but said nothing, finishing his lunch instead. Then he sat at his desk, staring into space, lost in thought.

Afternoon came, and the dismissal bell rang.

The moment the teacher called it quits, Aida Daichi grabbed his backpack and stepped out—only to be blocked by three figures.

Iwakuro Yuto smirked at Aida Daichi's involuntary flinch. Lighting a cigarette, he said, "Let's go. Arcade."

Aida Daichi stayed silent as the trio dragged him along.

After a round of games, Iwakuro Yuto bid the other two goodbye. Then, slinging an arm around Aida Daichi, he grinned. "Daichi, I'm thinking of visiting your place today. We've been buds so long, and I still don't know where you live."

Aida Daichi paled, his mind racing. He opened his mouth but couldn't speak.

Head down, he led the way. He didn't need to look to know Iwakuro Yuto was smirking triumphantly behind him.

Soon, they reached his house.

He stood at the door, hesitating to open it.

Frowning, Iwakuro Yuto's voice turned sinister. "What? Having second thoughts? You shouldn't have brought me here, then."

"You're committing a crime!" Aida Daichi's face was ashen, his fists clenched tight inside his uniform sleeves.

"You won't tell anyone, right?" Iwakuro Yuto's smile was warm, but his eyes glinted with menace.

Despair gripped Aida Daichi. He unlocked the door. Stepping inside, he let out a shaky breath and muttered, "No one's home. Just leave."

"I can wait," Iwakuro Yuto said, leisurely scanning the living room with a sneer. "Your place is a dump."

Aida Daichi's face flushed red.

Minutes later, the sound of the door opening came from outside. Before he could speak, Iwakuro Yuto licked his lips. "Go to your room—"

Aida Daichi opened his mouth, but Iwakuro Yuto's cold, vicious stare cut him off. "Get upstairs!"

As he climbed the steps, he faintly heard voices below.

"Huh? Who are you?"

"Hi, Auntie! I'm Daichi's friend. He just stepped out to grab some snacks for me at the store—I couldn't stop him, so I'm waiting here."

"Oh, really? Sit down, then! Daichi never told me he had friends at school. Stay for dinner—I'll cook something nice."

"Aw, that's too much trouble…"

"It's no bother!"

Aida Daichi's fists clenched tighter, his face burning, his breathing ragged.

In his room, he opened his computer and logged into 2ch.

He quickly found the post—or rather, it was still pinned at the top.

**[Does Hell Girl Really Exist?]**

Clicking in, his breath hitched, hope flickering in his eyes…

"'Hell Correspondence,' accessible only at midnight. Enter the name of the one you resent, and Hell Girl will appear, dragging them into the abyss of hell…"

He skimmed the replies.

"Another new urban legend?"

"Hell Girl?"

"Some anime company hyping a new show?"

"I searched it—the Hell Correspondence site's real, but it's not accessible now."

"Of course not—it's midnight only (lol)."

"Isn't it weird? The poster's username is garbled. I thought 2ch didn't allow that?"

"Maybe a mod's side gig, pinning it for some company promo?"

"I'm trying it tonight. My coworker's been screwing me over—I'd love to off him."

"Urban legends are usually ghosts and spirits, right? No such thing in this world, but still—don't mess with it."

Midnight only.

Aida Daichi slammed his fist on the desk. He wanted Iwakuro Yuto dead *now*!

But he knew even if midnight came, it wouldn't matter. This so-called Hell Girl was just an urban legend—probably a marketing stunt, like the replies suggested.
