(Lights up inside the bustling auditorium. Students are scattered everywhere, signing up for different clubs. Phoebe, Liam, and Tessa weave through the crowd. Phoebe looked nervous.
Phoebe:
Why are there so many people here? I thought drama club was supposed to be, like, five theater nerds and a stage.
Tessa (laughing):
This is Eastern High. We are dramatic.
(Suddenly, Phoebe bumps into someone. She nearly drops her papers.)
???:
Oh! Sorry—are you okay?
(Phoebe looks up and sees a cute guy around her age, with messy hair, an easy smile, and a slight accent.)
Phoebe (awkwardly):
Yeah! I'm good. Totally good. So good.
(She awkwardly drops her map and bends to pick it up. He helps her.)
???:
I'm new here. First day. Kinda chaotic, huh?
Phoebe (laughing nervously):
Yeah... Welcome to Eastern High. Chaos is basically our brand.
???:
Good to know.
(He smiles warmly.)
I'm Leo, by the way.
Phoebe (smiling back):
Phoebe.
(They shake hands a little awkwardly. Tessa and Liam are standing behind Phoebe, nudging each other and smirking.)
Tessa (whispering loudly to Liam):
Is it just me or did it get way cuter in here?
Phoebe (blushing, to Leo):
Ignore them. They're... a lot.
Leo (laughing):
It's fine. Better than being invisible.
(He glances around the auditorium.)
Leo:
Do you know where we're supposed to sign up for clubs? I'm kind of lost.
Phoebe:
Yeah! Um, here, I'll show you.
(Phoebe starts leading him toward the signup tables, her friends trailing behind, making silent "ooh" faces.)
Phoebe (narrating softly as they walk):
New friends. New adventures.
Maybe... even a new beginning.
(She smiles to herself as the lights dim slightly to end the scene.)
