Chapter 17 - GHOST TOWN

We were on our way shortly after getting some rest from the camp. Also since some of us are ordinary without offensive or defensive powers, we equip ourselves with handmade weapons to protect ourselves while also relying on those who have powers.

Before we commenced I told everyone that we all depend on one another. No one can play solo and survive solo - this wasn't solo leveling. Although I noticed some weren't comfortable with me being the leader's camouflage - and again I don't see myself as one. I'm just a dude trying to survive, you would understand if you're a fan of survival movies. And so we began matching towards the end of the light to Milele. I didn't say that out loud, right?

So I thought we were marching towards the light, but we weren't as we started approaching a place that was deserted and in ruin. Although we weren't very close yet, we knew everything was quite like a graveyard. When we finally got to the town entrance, our nostrils were hit by a devastating disgusting rotten smell. It was unbearable prompting all of us to cover our nose. I feel like throwing up.

"What's that smell?," Pashina said with his nose covered.

"Smells like an abandoned morgue." The air elementer answered since he was the only one who seemed not to be affected by the underworld abhorrence odour.

"Hey dude," I called for his attention and he looked at me for why I was calling. "What's your name? You are one of the elementary siblings, right?" I know that was dumb because I knew he was one of the siblings.

"The name of Galeon and I'm not answering the second question. What do you want?"

"Can you just, you know Abrakadabra the whole air to be breathable," I requested. My noise covered the whole time and I hope not to die of empty lungs very soon.

"Already done that. Do any of you think I'm useless in a situation like this? We are all team remember," and we all uncovered our noses.

"What the hell are those things over there?" Reecer pointed at some figures that were standing a little far away from us. Their appearance was covered by the night shadow and we couldn't tell what they were.

"Damn if I know," I muttered, also wondering what we were up against. I looked at the others, seeing they were already prepared to throw fist if whatever ahead wasn't playing nice.

"I can tell they aren't welcoming," Aqueon affirmed and I agreed as we saw those things begin to approach and the night shadow uncovered their true form.

"Whatever these things are, they looked pissed." I ready my weapons to fight.

"I don't remember us ringing the town's bell to wake the sleeping ghost," I heard Reece say.

Maybe we became naughty from the moment we stepped into their territory.

Without warning, the creatures - they were clothed in black rags and they had rotten flesh - lounged at us. I was the first person to be struck down by one of them, throwing me into one of the weak buildings and bringing half of it down.

I moaned in afflicting, my body ached when I stood up as I was as my murderer approached me slowly and deadly.

How does something with nothing left on their body have so much strength? I thought. But question later.

"Bring it on, b*t*h," I dared it, raising my fist like a wrestler and I started bouncing on the spot. I'm ready to teach this mother****er a lesson.

The night ghost popped out its razor claws and the sound of it scratching on the wall drained my former energy.

"That's not fair," I murmured.

It struck me with a crazy speed but I managed to avoid the attack. That didn't last long before it charged at me again, taking me by surprise. One moment I was standing and another moment I was in the mid air before I was given a bone cracker smackdown, crushing me to the floor. Another loud and painful screeching escaped my mouth.

Gasping like I was able to breath my last breath. From where I was laying weak and beaten up, I thought I'd been paralyzed by the brutal strike I just received.

As I pant faster,I looked at the outside seeing others handling their own pretty well more than I was. I was about to die here in the hand of a disgusting rotten flesh creep.

"I'm not dying, not today," I said with determination as I saw the night ghost coming to finish me off.

With a sudden burst of adrenaline rushing through me, I deep my right hand to whatever that was beside me - knowing whatever I was planning to do was stupid. I felt my hand touching a substance in a wooden container. It felt sandy. I was planning to splash it on the night ghost when it got closer.

I waited patiently for it to get really close, bending its face close to mine and the monstrous sound coming out of its mouth and that was the time I executed my plan. I grabbed a handful of the substance and splashed it on the night ghost face. I knew doing that would fasten my death and I waited for it to dig those long claws deep in my gut. But what happened next was unexpected. Instead of me screaming in agony of being torn apart, it was the night ghost screaming instead. It held its faceless face as agony scream erupted as

I watched it extinguished like a burning paper. I was left mouth agape of what I just saw. I raised up from the floor, looked at my hand and back at the container with the white substance.

What could it be? I thought. I spared no second to waste as I grabbed the box and rushed outside where the fight was lit.

"These things won't die!" Pashina whined as he kicked one of the night ghosts away which still stood up immediately to attack.

Ember tried burning one, which partially worked when the ghost turned into black jelly, but still came back after the liquid form came together. A frustrating and tiring sound escaped her mouth.

What am I still waiting for?! I asked myself after standing and watching. "Guys! They are allergic to salt!" I shouted getting their attention including the night ghost who all gave me a shapely gaze. "It's here. In this box," I raised the container up. That was a bad move. I saw Reece's night ghost left him sharply and was coming for me instead.

Unprepared for assault, I called it. Luckily before it could do anything to me Galeon has already manipulated the air around us, mixing the substance up with it and rained it all down in them.

We watched the creatures as they tried to escape when they were getting extinguished like earlier.

"Take that, suckers!" I muttered as I fell on my butt, exhausted from everything.

"At least we won," I heard Reece said jubilating, but the celebration was cut short when many night ghosts began to dig their way out of the ground like zombies.

"You were saying?" Reecer gave her brother a raised eyebrow.

"I did not sign up for this!" Aqueon exclaimed.

"Neither did we."

We took to our heels and ran as fast as we could until we reached the town's other exit where the ghosts can't cross since they are trapped there. I gave them a middle finger as we proceeded leaving this behind.

"If Ashroot was here, she would have fainted because of the odour," Ember murmured on the way which also begged the question...

"Who's Ashroot again?" Reece asked. The Elemental siblings became sad after that before Aqueon replied.

"She was our sister. She died when we were trying to escape. She sacrificed herself for us to get away. Rest, Ashroot. Rest," Ember said soberly while all of the three siblings started rubbing the necklaces no one was aware of.

Hold on, they all have a necklace with their name engraved on. I dip my hand into my pocket to retrieve the one I found in the library.

"This was hers, right?"I showed them the necklace and they all gasped seeing the thing in my hand. I returned it to Ember as she glanced at it.

"Oh my... Yes, this was hers. Thank you for returning it to us. Now we know we have some part of her with us."

"I'm sorry about your loss," I offered my condolences. I know how the pain of losing someone feels.
