Chapter 48 - CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN

Was it the right decision to tell him? Sharlene suddenly found herself questioning her own decisions. She was treating his injured hand at the time.

She felt guilty about what happened now.

"I—I'm sorry, Sharlene. I couldn't control my emotions." Lawrence is still asking for her forgiveness.

Sharlene just shook her head at him. "I should be the one asking for your forgiveness; I didn't even consider how you would feel."

Lawrence just sighed at what she was saying. Sharlene saw that he had calmed down a bit now.

"It's better if I don't continue for now." She could only say,.

He held her by the shoulder. "It's okay, Sharlene; we need to talk about it." She said this to the person standing in front of her.

"Come on, let's go for a walk first so we can calm the surroundings." He urged her.

She merely nodded, and they promptly left the mansion, first heading to the nearby garden.

"Where was Leah buried?" Lawrence asked her.

She took a deep breath first before continuing.

"Do you remember that abandoned place that people say no one goes to?" Sharlene questioned her companion as they gazed at the stunning plants.

"Yes, I remember that place. Is that the location of my cousin's burial? This is what Lawrence asked, his gaze distant.

She only just nodded. He abruptly stopped walking, revealing a frown as he was lost in deep thought.

"Impossible," he said softly.

"Impossible." This needs to be repeated.

Sharlene nodded. "You were right to suspect; I passed by there earlier; those are the Atienza properties." She could only say that, clenching her hand.

"Sharlene." Lawrence calls her name.

She just turned around.

"Sheila is there, isn't she?" Lawrence asked her.

She nodded.

"Let's talk to her."

The person she was talking to made a decision that surprised her. She just clenched her hand; she would rather not face Sheila yet because of what happened between them.

"J—Just don't, if you're going to visit her, don't include me." Sharlene could only address the person who was standing in front of her.

She could see Lawrence furrowing his brow, staring at her for a long time as if trying to figure out what the problem was.

Lawrence just sighed. "Is there an issue between you two?" He asked her.

Is this person with me a fortune teller? She couldn't help but wonder.

"N—Nothing, I'm just shy around her." She needs to lie.

Lawrence was staring at her and looked even more doubtful. "Embarrassed? You two were almost inseparable in high school, weren't you?" Lawrence continued to observe her silently.

"Don't bring that up again; it's in the past." Sharlene just sighed.

Lawrence just shook his head at her.

"I'm leaving now; I'm going to my grandma's house first." She needs to go before Lawrence reads her mind again.

"Wait," Lawrence pulled her arms.

She only looked at it and took out a key from his pocket.

"I'll accompany you." He just smiled back. "Let's go."

"You have a wound; let me handle it. This is my personal problem." Sharlene doesn't want to drag Lawrence again.

"Huh? Maybe I'll find something if I accompany you to your grandma's house." Lawrence only looked at her.

Sharlene just shook her head. "You really like to persist."

He just laughed at him. "Let's go already."

Sharlene didn't stop him anymore. She just waited at the exit, and as soon as he got in the car, she took the front seat.

Lawrence was driving quietly while she was looking around. As they passed by a deserted place with tall grass growing, she suddenly caught sight of a bloodied woman. Sharlene stared at the car's side mirror, as if searching for something.

"What happened, Sharlene?" Lawrence could only ask her.

She immediately averted her gaze from that place. "N—Nothing." She only shook her head.

Lawrence followed her gaze. "They said they found the bodies of the married couple I told you about earlier." Lawrence told her.

She just nodded. She just sighed; they had also passed by a warehouse back then.

She stared at it, the ancient warehouse.

Ellena, you stay there for now; hide, child. I'll come back for you—Mommy will come back for you here. Suddenly, the image of a little girl from her dream crossed her mind.

She saw again the bracelet worn on the girl's hand, and she felt a headache now, as she suddenly remembered the events in each of her dreams.

Sharlene held his head.

"Are you okay?" Lawrence asked worriedly.

"Sorry, my head suddenly started hurting." Sharlene apologized as she massaged her temples.

He just nodded at her. "Rest when we get to your grandma's house."

She just nodded then. They passed by the Atienza property. The car suddenly stopped, and her companion stared at it.

"I will find a way to get in there and retrieve Leah's remaining memories. I will go back there." Sharlene could only hear Lawrence's words at the moment.

Thereafter, Lawrence immediately drove the car. She looked at Lawrence, who was driving seriously and was lost in deep thought.

She couldn't blame her companion for having such a reaction. Sharlene understood that losing a loved one is painful.

She had already seen his grandmother's house; she had also welcomed Lawrence.

"I'll just prepare something for you to drink." This was all she could say to him.

"Don't bother anymore, Sharlene." Lawrence simply gave her a brief smile.

"Can I wander around here?" He asked her.

"Feel free. You're my guest." She just smiled and softly chuckled.

"I'm going upstairs for a bit; if you need anything, just come find me." Sharlene could only say...

Lawrence nodded, and she immediately went upstairs because her grandmother's room was there. She just sighed; this is where she also found her grandmother's old notebook.

Maybe I'll find something else here. She could only say it in her mind. She opened the closets one by one; she didn't touch the clothes. Whatever her eyes saw and her mind told her to take, she would take it. But she couldn't find anything important.

Sharlene only needs to find one more closet, and it also has a cabinet inside. In the last closet, there was a photo album, so she opened it. She smiled as memories from her childhood flooded back.

Concentrate, Sharlene. She didn't finish looking at the photos; she quickly opened the cabinet that was there.

She was surprised to find that there were items inside, seemingly kept by her grandmother. There were things inside the brown envelope; she quickly looked at it.

She just gasped. The bank accounts and lands were transferred to her grandmother's name. Her hand trembled as she read Leah's name.

Were Leah's parents still alive when she passed away? She wondered in her mind.

How did Grandmother acquire such a large estate? A series of questions raced through her mind then.

Sharlene would take the important thing she saw today. She was about to leave and call Lawrence when she saw a small box. Although she shouldn't have touched it, her hand had an uncontrollable urge to do so.

Because of Sharlene's curiosity, she opened it.

Bracelet? Sharlene was still examining it, a valuable bracelet.

She saw a picture given by a mother to a child. She stared at it, and suddenly her chest tightened.

Tears suddenly fell from her eyes without her realizing it.
