Chapter 6 - asleep

It's probably hard for a kid to comprehend the fact that sometimes people really aren't coming back. They're not away, you can't set up FaceTimes and phone calls. They're just gone. Truly gone. I don't think he knew exactly why he was crying the way in which he was. He cried and choked on his own sobs because he knew something was off even if he didn't know what exactly. At some point he started calling me everyday asking when she'd come home. He said "mommy says she's having another sleepover at your house" all I could do was smile and say "she's staying another night." Sometimes he'd say he was coming over to visit her but then his mother wouldn't let him because she knew the truth that he doesn't. "Can I talk to her on the phone?" He'd ask and again I'd lie, "she's showering" I'd say or "she's still asleep" excuses and more excuses. How do you tell a little boy the person he loves most in this world is gone forever. And she can't come back. How do you explain death to someone who thinks everyone is immortal.
