Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Saiki Kusuo's Classroom of the Elite

"For a high school, the number of surveillance cameras seems a bit excessive."

At this moment, a boy stood in front of the school gate, thinking to himself.

He had a relatively handsome appearance, with green glasses resting on the bridge of his nose and a pair of lollipop-like hair accessories adorning his pink hair.

Saiki Kusuo was a psychic, possessing a variety of abilities that continued to evolve. To avoid unnecessary trouble, he had always hidden his identity, pretending to be an ordinary, unremarkable person.

Today was his first day of high school.

His gaze shifted slightly, landing on the highly conspicuous sign at the school entrance.

Advanced Nurturing High School.

Originally, he had planned to attend an ordinary high school, living an ordinary life and avoiding the attention of others as much as possible. However, he never expected that his older brother, Saiki Kusuke, would persuade their parents with the argument that "there's no tuition fee, and you don't even have to worry about living expenses." Using his connections and resources, Kusuke had managed to send him to this particular high school.

Saiki Kusuo had no fondness for his older brother, who possessed an extremely high IQ but a twisted personality. He was well aware that Kusuke's decision to send him to this special school was likely not for any good reason. Before the entrance exam, Saiki Kusuo had even planned to intentionally fail so that the school would reject him. However, after using his telepathy to read the mind of the proctor and learning that this school had the most luxurious cafeteria in the country, he ultimately decided to control his score to a moderately average level, successfully gaining admission.

Although today was his first day of school, Saiki Kusuo had already used his psychic abilities to observe the school's environment and was well aware that this school was anything but ordinary.

.....

The opening ceremony, class assignments, and self-introductions among classmates... For Saiki Kusuo, these things were rather troublesome, especially the self-introduction part.

Saiki Kusuo didn't care who his classmates were. To him, this school was merely a transitional station where he could pretend to be an ordinary person and live a peaceful life. There was no need to establish too many connections with those around him. However, in order to maintain his hidden identity and remain as inconspicuous as possible, Saiki Kusuo couldn't avoid these formalities.

Moreover, using his telepathy, Saiki Kusuo had already gained some understanding of his classmates before the self-introductions even began.

Saiki Kusuo could easily hear their inner thoughts. Even though the limiters he wore prevented him from using his full power, he could still hear the thoughts of almost every living being within a 200-meter radius. This ability was always active, which was one of the burdens of being a psychic.

[These people are just dead weight. I need to catch up to my brother's pace through my own efforts.]

[I want to make friends with everyone!]

[I need to find a suitable target to protect myself.]

Just by listening to these thoughts, Saiki Kusuo already knew that the number of normal people in this class was few and far between.

Some wanted to surpass their older brothers, some wanted to stand out in this new environment, and others seemed to share Saiki Kusuo's mindset, wanting to remain as hidden as possible within the school.

Saiki Kusuo didn't care about any of this, nor did he want to interact too much with these people. He simply wanted to spend a relatively peaceful high school life, making sure not to draw too much attention to himself.

However, the mental chatter of these people was simply too noisy.

After going through these tedious but necessary procedures, Saiki Kusuo and the others finally attended their first class at this school.

...

"I am Chabashira Sae, the homeroom teacher for Class D."

"This school does not change classes."

"For the next three years until graduation, I will be your homeroom teacher."

On the classroom podium, a young woman who introduced herself as Chabashira Sae spoke slowly.

She wore a black shirt that did little to hide her impressive upper body curves, and her slender legs were clad in black stockings beneath a short black skirt.

Chabashira Sae had a rather refined appearance, but her gaze carried a sharpness that didn't seem to belong to someone in the teaching profession. Her voice, however, carried a hint of coldness and apathy.

"First, I'll distribute some materials about our school. Pass them from the front to the back. Our school has a special rule: during your time here, all outings and external communications are restricted."

As Chabashira Sae spoke, the students below the podium mostly showed expressions of surprise.

At this moment, Saiki Kusuo's ears were filled with the voices of his classmates around him.

[We can't leave the school?]

[I didn't bring any spare clothes!]

[What kind of rule is this? It's so inhumane!]

These classmates didn't actually speak out loud, as the homeroom teacher, Chabashira Sae, was still on the podium. However, Saiki Kusuo could clearly hear their thoughts.

'Can't go home?'

Upon hearing Chabashira Sae's words, Saiki Kusuo's expression remained unchanged. With his teleportation ability, he was completely unaffected by such restrictions.

Even if the school was far from his home, he could instantly teleport back.

Therefore, no matter how outrageous the rules of Advanced Nurturing High School were, they had no impact on Saiki Kusuo.

Moreover, this school was actually a rather good place for Saiki Kusuo.

"...But don't worry. The school is equipped with various facilities, and you can purchase all your daily necessities here, including entertainment options."

Chabashira Sae continued.

Hearing this, Saiki Kusuo's lips curled into a slight smile. This was precisely the purpose of his earlier investigation of the school.

Using his psychokinesis and teleportation, he had arrived at the school early, avoiding the surveillance cameras with his invisibility ability, and carefully observed the entire layout of the school.

Movie theaters, karaoke, libraries... The school was equipped with every kind of entertainment facility imaginable, completely different from an ordinary high school. It was like a small city.

Although Saiki Kusuo didn't have many hobbies, watching TV and reading novels were among the few he could count, especially mystery novels and shows.

His overwhelming psychic abilities made it so that he rarely encountered "unexpected" situations in his daily life, which made things rather boring. However, telepathy didn't work on fictional worlds, and he couldn't predict the direction of a story. This was why he enjoyed mystery novels so much.
