Cherreads

Chapter 2 - Backroom

For the next month…

More subjects begin to crawl too, Subjects 000003 and 000013 are excited to see their fellow brothers start crawling out of their cribs and shaking their cribs. Most of the babies are giggling to see new faces especially subject 000013, but subject 000003 isn't giggling and happy, he is curious to see the doctors taking the sleeping baby and baby that didn't know how to crawl let alone to move their body. The doctors bring the remaining baby to the very back of the hall. Something like that makes Subject 000003 feel more anxious.

A week later…

Subjects 000003 and 000013 begin to say their first word. General Kevin and Prof. Blight are anticipating listening to the two babies' first words while they change Subject 000003's and 000013's diapers.

"Mariah, the two of them begin to speak.", The General alerting Prof. Blight.

"Wait… Really!?", Prof. Blight is excited.

"M-m…", Subject 000003 tries to speak the word.

"U-Up…", Subject 000013 says his first words in front of the general.

"Mariah!! 13 says his first words!!", The general is surprised and happy to see Subject 000013's first word, lifting him up in happiness while spinning around making the baby giggle.

"Woah… I have never seen you that happy before…", Prof. Blight is weird out by a sudden happiness from the general.

The general realized what he did, luckily it was just the two of them taking care of the subjects. He refrained himself and took an embarrassing cough while holding the baby with his left hand and making the baby lean on his chest.

"M-m…", while the general controls himself, Subject 000003 still tries to say his first word.

"You can do it, 3.", as she cheered Subject 000003 on…

Suddenly…

"M-M-Mama…"

Subject 000003 says his first words and his word is calling Prof. Blight directly. It imply that Prof. Blight is his mother or that Subject 000003 is recognizing Prof. Blight as his mother.

That word "Mama" touches Prof. Blight so deep it makes the seemingly heartless professor to the point it makes her shed a tear even crying to the point she drops to the ground crying so bad making General Kevin comforting her by hugging her while still holding subject 000013.

10 months later…

Subject 000003 standing in the hall, looking around the hall where his crib used to be placed now removed by the doctors cause he doesn't need it anymore. He begins to count how many others of his kind, it is around 70000 more babies who start to walk and play tag too.

But there's something that intrigues him, the doctors also remove the other crib but there's also other babies still lying and trying to crawl out of their respected crib. The doctors bring the crib with the baby to the very back of the hall one by one. Subject 000003 didn't understand what happened to them.

Then a familiar face appears, it is Dr. Rachel. Looks like she's trying to communicate with him and his kind. And of course, Subject 000013 is excited to see Dr. Rachel.

"Rashel! Rashel!", Subject 000013 shouting out her name, especially showing her affection.

Rachel waves at him nervously, but there's something that she did not expect. The other babies looked at Subject 000013 and they all also started to shout her 'name' at her.

"Rashel!!"

"Rashel!!"

"Rashel!!"

"Rashel!!"

"Rashel!!"

"Rashel!!"

"Rashel!!"

Dr. Rachel smiles nervously because she completely did not expect a whole army of year old babies shouting out her name even though they were all spelling out wrong.

Suddenly, something crawls behind her back, she hurriedly spin around in panic and horror. Luckily, it is Subject 000003 and he taps Dr. Rachel's back head.

"Rachel…", The baby says her name right and it actually makes Rachel smile, laugh and pat Subject 000003. The other babies follow Subject 000003 words.

"Rachel!!"

"Rachel!!"

"Rachel!!"

"Rachel!!"

"Rachel!!"

"Rachel!!"

"Rachel!!"

Subject 000013 reacts to it with pouting in jealousy. He realises that Subject 000003 says her name right and she gives Subject 000003 more affection so he also climbs on her back making her feel heavier, she's scrawny after all.

Dr. Rachel then tells the subjects to follow her to the "Fun Castle" and they all follow her while Subject 000003 and 000013 is still clinging on her back. Subject 000003 and 000013 looked at each other cause they both never heard of the place before.

"Fun House!!"

"Fun House!!"

Both of the babies thought she was mistaken.

"No, 3 and 13. "Fun Castle" is much bigger and more fun than the "Fun House" especially when we bring your whole family together.", Dr. Rachel explains about the "Fun Castle" to them. They are super excited to hear what Dr. Rachel says, they begin to jump a lot on her back making her shouting in pain.

As Dr. Rachel and all of the subjects arrive at the "Fun Castle", All of the Subjects are super happy to see the place. The "Fun Castle" contains 10 playgrounds and a bunch of toys scattered around the hall, each of the playgrounds has a different theme especially each of the playgrounds has numbers from Zone 1 to Zone 10.

🔱 ZONE 1: Themed Adventure Playground (Type 1)

As they enter the hall, you're immediately drawn to the grandest, most jaw-dropping section. Towering over everything is a giant fantasy castle with roaring dragons, pirate ships floating on artificial water, and a rocket ship docked nearby. Lights flash, music plays, and animatronics move. Kids run through secret passages, slide down glowing tunnels, and activate puzzles to open magical doors. This area feels like a living video game or fairy tale—an immersive, story-driven adventure that sparks wonder in everyone.

🧪 ZONE 2: STEM & Educational Playground (Type 2)

From fantasy to science, they can enter a sleek, futuristic area full of interactive gadgets and exhibits. Giant gears turn, water flows through transparent pipes when kids crank levers, and blocks light up when connected correctly. Sound waves ripple through hanging tubes, and marble runs tower several meters high. Everything teaches something—physics, engineering, math, or biology—all while keeping the fun rolling. It's a mini science center disguised as a playground.

🌲 ZONE 3: Natural Playground (Type 3)

The path winds into an open, forest-like area filled with real trees, smooth boulders, wooden bridges, and streams. There's a treehouse village, mud kitchens, and a hidden garden. Children build their own shelters with sticks and stones, dig trenches in the sand, or balance across log paths. The scent of wood and earth fills the air, and it feels like stepping into the wild—free, raw, and endlessly imaginative.

🎨 ZONE 4: Artistic Playground (Type 4)

Leaving nature behind, they're surrounded by an explosion of color, shape, and sound. Sculptures double as climbing frames, swings hang from giant abstract arches, and the ground itself is painted like a surreal dreamscape. Walls make music when touched, and giant spinning flowers rotate with the wind. It's a gallery of play, where art and motion come together in the weirdest, most wonderful ways.

🧗 ZONE 5: Urban Climbing Playground (Type 5)

Things get more active as they can enter the urban jungle. Steel bars, climbing towers, balance platforms, and wall runs mimic a city parkour setup. Teens vault over rails, time their jumps, and race through obstacle courses. It's clean, intense, and dynamic, designed for speed, strength, and daring. Some zones are timed, like a ninja warrior course. Everyone's testing their physical limits.

💦 ZONE 6: Water & Splash Playground (Type 6)

Suddenly, the air cools and they can hear the splashing of water. This zone is alive with fountains, jets, sprinklers, and shallow splash pools. Children chase bursts of water, tip buckets over each other, or ride mini water slides. A sand and water area lets younger kids build moats and rivers. Brightly colored tiles reflect the light, and it feels like summer even indoors.

🏗️ ZONE 7: Loose Parts / Modular Playground (Type 7)

Moving on, they can enter a chaotic, creative lab. Stacks of tires, wooden crates, tubes, fabric, ropes, and foam blocks are scattered around. Kids work together to build pirate ships, obstacle courses, or forts—then tear them down and start again. Nothing is fixed. This is a place of invention, problem-solving, and teamwork, where the only rule is "build something cool."

🧩 ZONE 8: Inclusive & Sensory Playground (Type 8)

This area is calmer, more thoughtful. Ramps connect every space, surfaces are soft and textured, and musical instruments are built into the walls. There are zones for climbing, quiet areas for relaxing, and sensory boards that respond to touch, sight, and sound. Children of all abilities play side-by-side without barriers. It's peaceful, accessible, and beautifully inclusive.

🏞️ ZONE 9: Community Playground (Type 9)

As they head deeper, they arrive at a familiar sight. Swings, a slide, a climbing frame, and a sandbox. This zone reflects the everyday neighborhood playground. Nothing too fancy, but still full of laughter and life. It feels comforting and nostalgic—what most of us grew up with. Parents sit on benches while kids chase each other around the jungle gym.

🪵 ZONE 10: Basic Play Area (Type 10)

Finally, at the far end of the hall, the playground is stripped back to the bare minimum. A dirt patch, an old metal slide, and a lone tire swing hang from a wooden beam. Yet even here, children are finding joy—making up games, running races, playing pretend with sticks and stones. It's the essence of play, raw and unfiltered, showing that fun doesn't need technology or theme parks—just imagination and space.

"Okay children, You can play now and choose which playground you want!", Dr. Rachel Happily informs all of the subjects and lets them play.

All of the subjects happily run around the hall and choose their favorite playground, but none of them chooses Zone 1 because it is too big and too intimidating for them so they rather choose other than Zone 1. Of course, "Fun Castle" also has a one way mirror just like "Fun House". Behind the mirror, General Kevin and Prof. Blight with other two doctors, Dr. Hawks and another new doctor with pale skin and greasy hair, Dr. Lucius watches all of the subjects.

"I knew it will intimidated by the Zone 1 Playground, Kevin.", Prof. Blight pinch her bridge of her nose in disappointment.

"I… thought they like the huge playground…?", the general thought all of the subjects are gonna love it but of course in the end the subjects are still a…

"They are a f*cking baby, Idiot!", Prof. Blight scolded the general by hitting him on his shoulder.

Dr. Hawk is covering his face at the stupidity and Dr. Lucius just recorded the subjects' activities on his paper clip board. As the old couple starts to fight each other, Dr. Lucius notices one of the subjects is still standing motionlessly and informs the old couple that there's one subject that is still not playing yet, it's Subject 000003.

"Is it me or he just doesn't like to play on any of the playgrounds?", Dr. Lucius is curious about Subject 000003 behavior.

Dr. Hawk notices that Subject 000003 is looking at the Zone 1 playground.

"Umm… General, it looks like your idea is only to work on one subject."

"Is that 3?", Prof. Blight stopped and started to notice Subject 000003.

"See! Your favorite boy interested on that magnificent playground that i made!", the general aesthetically show off his greatest creation on Prof. Blight.

"Favorite boy?", Dr. Lucius is confused and curious at the same time.

Subject 000003 is amazed by the Zone 1 Playground, he begins to slowly explore Zone 1 happily and excitedly plays around and climbs it to the top. He sees a bunch of AI animatronics play with him, he fights them like he is the hero, the only one who can beat the Evil Dragon and become the King of the Castle. The peaceful AI animatronics gives him a sword and shield to face his enemies which is another AI animatronics. At first he has to travel through a labyrinth and maze-like place while he has to defeat a bunch of enemies, find secret passages, slide down glowing tunnels, and activate puzzles to open magical doors. As he climbs to the top of the castle, he feels a chill and goosebump while walking through the staircase. When he arrives at the top of the castle, he sees a huge door that there's an Evil Dragon behind it. He begins to open the door and instantly prepares his sword and shield to face the Evil Dragon. The dragon is still slumbering and suddenly wakes up from his slumber and roars so loudly all subjects hear the dragon's roar. Subject 000013 is curious about what happened to Subject 000003 at the Zone 1 Playground, so he orders other subjects to find some place high enough to see the noises. As a bunch of subjects including Subjects 000013 climb the high place in the "Fun Castle" besides Zone 1 Playground, They see Subject 000003 fight the Evil Dragon. Subject 000003 fights the dragon excitedly to the point he destroys part of the castle unintendedly and makes the examiners' jaws drop even Dr. Rachel is speechless of how a 1 year old baby can make unexpected moves of skill and speed so fast for a toddler. In the end, Subject 000003 beat the Evil Dragon and the dragon is too weak to fight. When Subject 000003 is about to do the finishing blow, he hesitates. He feels so bad for what he did to the dragon after the dragon looks like it is in pain even though it is just an AI animatronics. Instead, he throws away his equipment and hugs the dragon, comforting the AI animatronics until the dragon is shutting down. The Examiners are shocked at the decision of Subject 000003, it touches the heart of Dr. Rachel especially Prof. Blight made her shed tears again. After comforting the Evil Dragon, he begins to approach the throne and sit on it. The good AI animatronics arrive at the top of the castle after the death of Evil Dragon, they crown him and shout…

"ALL HAIL KING THREE!!!"

The subjects are impressed by what happened and they also chant the word…

"ALL HAIL KING THREE!!!"

"ALL HAIL KING THREE!!!"

"ALL HAIL KING THREE!!!"

"ALL HAIL KING THREE!!!"

"ALL HAIL KING THREE!!!"

"ALL HAIL KING THREE!!!"

"ALL HAIL KING THREE!!!"

They all chanted Subject 000003, even the examiners except Dr. Lucius chants his glory except Subject 000013, he is jealous of Subject 000003 and starts pouting about it.

After all of the subjects play at the "Fun Castle", every subject is tired and Dr. Rachel guides them back to their hall. When they arrive at their hall, they are shocked that their cribs have been exchanged into small beds and each bed has numbers on each of them. As Subject 000003 is happy to see new things, he sees one of the subjects is in pain, it's Subject 099936, he looks like he has a cold and starts crying. Some doctor arrives and begins to take Subject 099936 away to the very back of the hall, Dr. Rachel wants to stop them but she can't, he doesn't know why. Another doctor even removed Subject 099936's little bed away, He knows what happened Subject 099936.

Every time his kind goes to the very back of the hall, they will never return. He knows he has been watching it for a year, making him more anxious.

He named the very back of the hall, Backroom.

He will never get sick.

He will never cry again.
