Chapter 2 - 2

Browsing the system's skill mall, Hirito was stunned.

This time, it wasn't because of something mysterious—but because of the terrifying prices.

No wonder the system was generous enough to hand over 1,000 points so easily. It turned out those 1,000 points were basically worthless.

Even ordinary skills required several thousand points to redeem. Unless they were minor support skills, 1,000 points could only buy one or two at most.

The skill Destruction Ray, which he received as a random reward, had a whopping cost of 30,000 points.

Luckily, he got it randomly. If he had to redeem it himself, who knew how long it would've taken?

As for how to earn points, Hirito finally found the method in the system mall's introduction.

There were only two ways.

The first one was straightforward—defeating or killing a ninja would grant points based on the enemy's strength:

Kills:

Genin (100–500 points),

Chūnin (1,000–2,000 points),

Jōnin (3,000–5,000 points),

Quasi-Kage (6,000–8,000 points),

Kage-level (10,000–20,000 points),

Super Kage-level (30,000–50,000 points),

Sennin (60,000–80,000 points),

Six Paths level (100,000–200,000 points),

God-level (200,000+ points).

Defeats: Bonus points halved.

The second way was to complete system-assigned tasks for point rewards.

The numbers were impressive—but with Hirito's current strength, how was he supposed to hunt ninjas for points?

It was true that the world was at war, but at his level, he was nothing more than cannon fodder on the battlefield, or a logistics grunt.

Forget joining the battlefield. Even if he applied, what could he actually do?

The Third Ninja World War wasn't about single combat—it was a massive conflict between entire military forces.

Unless you had the overwhelming strength of Uchiha Madara or Senju Hashirama, there was no chance of turning the tide alone.

Otherwise, Hirito would've tried to earn some battlefield achievements instead of staying tucked away in Konoha's library the past month to dodge the chaos.

He still had to cultivate.

Even though he now possessed the Super S-level skill Destruction Ray and had gained some self-preservation capability, he needed to improve his overall strength fast.

The 46th and 47th years of Konoha were famously chaotic in the original timeline.

Many major events happened in these years, setting up a lot of foreshadowing for the future.

The Battle had just ended last month. But while the war with Sunagakure cooled off, Kumogakure saw an opportunity and launched a new war against Konoha, hoping to profit from the situation.

As expected, Konoha began to fragment under pressure, leading to a large-scale invasion from Iwagakure of the Land of Earth. They hoped to take advantage of the divided forces.

This all built up to the Battle of Kannabi Bridge, which would erupt early next year.

The Third Tsuchikage had grand ambitions, but he hadn't expected the sudden rise of Namikaze Minato.

Using his Flying Thunder God Technique, Minato caught Iwagakure forces completely off-guard, and from that point forward, Iwagakure established a rule: any ninja encountering Minato on a mission was permitted to abandon the mission and retreat without punishment.

And this was not seen as cowardice.

Simply put—this was Minato's era. His shadow loomed over the entire ninja world.

If there were any other shadows, it would only be his disciple: Hatake Kakashi.

Soon, around April or May of Konoha Year 47, the Battle of Kannabi Bridge would unfold, launching Kakashi's rise to fame.

As the youngest Jōnin, he played a key role in that battle. It was then that he received Uchiha Obito's Sharingan, which earned him the title Sharingan Kakashi in later generations.

Other notable events might be overlooked by most, but Hirito remembered them clearly. Might Guy's father, Might Dai, also made his mark in this era—though it was often overshadowed by Minato's brilliance.

After the Kannabi Bridge conflict, Kirigakure launched an invasion. Under the manipulation of conspirators like Uchiha Madara, the Three-Tails was sealed into Rin Nohara, setting the stage for an emotional breakdown and manipulation of Uchiha Obito.

During this period, Might Dai activated the Eight Inner Gates Formation to rescue a trapped Might Guy, Genma Shiranui, and Ebisu from the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist.

He sacrificed his life and managed to kill four of them. Only Biwa Juzo, Kuriarare Kushimaru, and Raiga Kurosuki survived—turning the Seven into the Three.

Snapping back to reality, Hirito continued browsing the system interface.

After figuring out the interface properly, he filtered the skills to only show those within the 1,000-point range.

The results shocked him completely.
