Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: RUN DESMOND RUN!

He had given the old man back his books; he apologized once more then left. All the noises blended together. All the sounds were overwhelming. Hundreds of voices shouting at once. The sound on boots and heels hitting cobblestone.

He turned a narrow street lined with houses. There was a whistling sound. It was high pitched at first. A piece of metal flew passed his ear when the pitch became lower.

The whistles pitch changed again. It's not as high as the first but not low either. The piece of metal changed course in midair. It was coming directly at his face.

He ducked. Then pressed his body against the wall. His eyes scanned the street. Nobody else is there. Using Orbit in this situation would be the right call. But he can't afford to pass out again. His only option is to run.

His feet pounded against the cobblestone. He turned the corner running full speed. A wall of stone materialized blocking his path to the main square. Only one path was left. The path that led deeper into shadowy parts of SkyVill.

He kept running. His heart pounding. His lungs feel like they are about burst.

CRASH!

A spear shaped stone slammed into a merchant stall. It just barely missed him. The stall came crashing down around its owner. He would have stayed to help if someone wasn't actively trying to kill him.

"FUCK!" He shouted.

Before he could react, a fireball hit his back. The smell of his burning flesh filled the air. The back of shirt is completely gone. He finally broke down. His limit is about ten minutes.

"Orbit!" He called.

"Search the area!" He ordered

The four orbs floated of in opposite directions. He a found a place to hide while they searched. Underneath this abandoned merchant stall that smells of bad onions and feet. Soon he had a vision of one of his three attackers.

A woman small in stature, huge boobs, and face like a goddess. Honestly the type of woman he would go after if she wasn't trying to kill him. She is the one shooting the stone magic at him.

The pain in his back was making concentrating hard. It feels like he is laying on a furnace. The smell of his burning flesh and abandon stall overwhelmed his nostrils. He is fighting three different battles at once. His fight to survive, the fight to remain conscious, and the fight to not throw up.

"Hey...Hey, I found you" a male voice called playfully.

A barrage of fireballs came raining down on. He just barely managed to dodge.

"Tck. Lucky bastard." The man said sucking his teeth.

"Here we go again" Desmond said to himself.

The whistling had started again. The pitch was much higher. Two metal daggers flew at him from both sides.

"SHIT!" He shouted ducking just in time.

"The person whistling has to be the closest to me." Desmond thought before the system chimed in.

[Not necessarily.]

"What?" Desmond questioned

[If they have right enchantments, they can be the furthest from you]

"This is some bullshit. System how long have I been using Orbit?"

[7 minutes]

Three minutes left on the clock. He has to do something.

Off in the distance there is a large building. It has beautiful marble pillars and stain class windows. The building itself is made out of some kind of green-colored stone that he has never seen before.

[DESMOND! RUN! If you make it to that building, you're safe.]

He didn't question the system's wisdom. He was in a full-blown sprint. Stones, fireballs, and those damn daggers flew around. His left shoulder got sliced opened. A crimson waterfall flowed from his shoulder down the length of his arm.

He slammed his body through the doors of the building. He couldn't have cut it any closer. The minute his feet were inside Desmond lost consciousness.

The sky that was one a brilliant blue is now obsidian black. He didn't notice before, but this world has two moons. One a gorgeous yellow color the other as red as a ruby.

His body ached. His shoulder was bandage, and his back didn't sting as much. He tried to sit up but immediately regretted his stupidity. The pain was enough to bring tears to his eyes.

Knock. Knock.

"Um excuse me, can I come in?" Someone called from the hall.

"Come in"

A man entered. He was just barely taller than the bed. His gaze lock on Desmond.

"You went through quite ordeal I see." The man said while pointing to Desmond's injuries.

"Someone tried to kill me."

"Obviously. You're lucky you made it here."

"Thank you for your help but I should get out of here. I don't want to cause any more trouble."

He tried to move. Suddenly the man grew. Now he is a whole foot taller than Desmond. The man knocked Desmond back onto the bed.

"Don't be stupid. I'm sure whoever just tried to kill you is still lying in wait. They may have stopped attacking but that doesn't mean that have given up. The only reason they stopped is because you made it into a guild building."

Desmond's confused looked infuriated the man.

"Jeez you really are stupid. Fighting in a guild building is strictly forbidden by law. A person could lose everything for breaking that law. Their land, their money, and their title. Nobody here in SkyVill would ever risk that."

"That makes sense." Desmond responded.

"I forgot to introduce myself. The wife says I have a habit of doing that. My name is Romdor I'm the Guild Master here."

"Nice to meet you. I'm Desmond."

"Well, Desmond allow me to offer my deepest apologies. You came through our door at a really bad time. All of the healers that could've fully patched you up are gone. You need at least a Silver Rank healer all we have at the moment is Bronze. So, we were able to stop the bleeding, but your back will be scarred, and too much movement will reopen the wound on your shoulder."

"It's really okay you have done more than enough."

Romdor shrank back down.

"Hey, how do you do that? I thought you were a dwarf or something."

"I'm a Blood Giant my people specialize in Enhancement magic. We can change our size, make ourselves stronger and faster, enhance our senses."

Desmond slowly nodded.

With the conversation concluded Romdor left the room.

This bed is 100X better than the one back home. It didn't take long before he was snoring and drooling all over the pillow.

Desmond just barely survived. His first day in SkyVill. He still his to survive the days before the entrance ceremony, the actual ceremony itself, and his time at the academy.
