Chapter 10 - BETRAYED BY LOVE

Pain, earth-shattering pain. Is how I can describe this feeling that ripped through me. Losing my balance, I tried to steady myself against the wall, but I couldn't, my hands were tied. The metal handcuffs dug deeper into my skin, their coldness a harsh reminder of my helplessness.

"I can't believe we did it!" Isla exclaimed, her voice bubbling with happiness as she finally pulled away from Harry's lips.

"I'm so happy, Harry, you're my lucky star, always helping me make the impossible possible." She gazed up at him with shining eyes, her smile radiant.

"You seem so happy, little one," Harry said, a hint of curiosity lacing his voice. I was curious too, my mind reeling with questions. She had just betrayed me, why was she so happy?

"I thought I'd be stuck with that loser for life," Isla said, her voice dripping with disgust. "Always hindering me with his self-righteous principles. Oh, you have no idea how much I despise Damen. He's always pretending to be perfect, but I see right through him."

"I think I know," Harry laughed, kissing her again. "Afterall you convinced him into selling the land, then ran off with his bail money. And now, you've just publicly testified against him, swearing that he killed Zoey." He laughed again clearly enjoying himself.

Isla's gaze locked onto Harry's, a sly smile spreading across her face. "Oh, you evil man, don't put this all on me. This was your plan all along. And now, we can finally reap the rewards and live the life of luxury we've always wanted." Her voice was laced with a sinister tone, and Harry nodded in approval, as if he was proud of her cunning nature.

He wrapped his arm around Isla's waist, pulling her close. "Yes, little one, we have finally joined the ranks of the elite. And nothing can ever take that away from us."

Their lips met again, celebrating their victory, Tears began to roll down my cheeks as the weight of their betrayal crushed me. I couldn't believe it, not one, but two people I had trusted completely. The pain of their treachery felt like a knife twisting in my heart.

"Why?" I whispered, the word barely audible as they escaped my trembling lips. "Why did you do this to me, Isla? Why did you betray me, Harry?"

They turned to face me, their eyes locking onto mine with a mixture of surprise and indifference. I was slumped on the bathroom floor, my back against the cold tile wall, clutching my chest, the pain was suffocating, making it hard to breathe.

"Look who we have here," Isla's evil laughter filled my ears, she taunted, her eyes gleaming with malice. "The prisoner himself, what are you doing here alone? Where are your bodyguards? Her voice dripped with sarcasm.

"Bodyguards?" I asked curiously.

Isla's laughter grew louder, more maniacal. "Yes, have you forgotten? From now on, you will be guarded properly, by prison guards." She said slowly, her eyes glinting with triumph. "Isn't that perfect? Fit for the Clarck heir."

She laughed once more "Oh, I forgot you don't have an inheritance left, do you? You sold the land, and handed the money right over to me." She took a step closer, her stiletto heel coming down on my knee with precision. I winced as she dug her heel deeper into my skin. "You're nothing now, Damen," she sneered. "Nothing but a penniless prisoner."

"What if I made you a cripple, too? Wouldn't that be the perfect?" She dug her heel deeper into my knee, and I screamed as a deep pain shot through my leg. Harry's face appeared above me, his eyes gleaming with excitement, as if he was feeding off my agony.

Tears streamed down my face as I begged, my voice filled with desperation. "Why, Isla? Why are you doing this to me? I gave you my heart, my everything. I loved you, trusted you, and this is how you repay me?" The pain in my knee was nothing compared to the agony in my chest.

Isla's laughter was like a slap in the face. "Did I ask for any of it?" she sneered. "You fool, you should have listened to everyone who warned you to stay away from me." Her voice was dripped with venom. "That's why I hate you, Damen. Your love was suffocating, all consuming and pure. it made me feel trapped. Were you trying to make me feel guilty?"

Isla's eyes shinned with a fierce, sadistic light as she hissed, "I will cripple you, consider this my final gift to you." With a swift, merciless motion, she picked up a rusted metal rod from the floor and drove it deeper into my knee. I felt as the metal crushed against my bones, a wave of pain shoot through my body. My vision began to blur, and I screamed, the sound echoing off the cold, toilet walls.

I screamed until my voice was hoarse, but Isla didn't stop. She kept twisting the metal, her eyes flashing with satisfaction. The Isla I thought I knew was kind, patient, and loving.

But, how did I love a monster?

"Please Isla, stop, please" I pleaded.

Finally she stopped, leaving the metal rod in my knee. I lay there, panting, I finally gathered enough strength to look up at her, my eyes searching hers for answers. "Why?" I whispered, my voice cracking with emotion. "What did I do to deserve this?" I stared at Isla, trying to see beyond the monster she had become, to find the woman I once loved. But her expression remained cold.

"You see yourself, Damen, handcuffs on your wrists, chains on your feet... this is how I've always imagined you in my dreams." Though her words hurt, I got my answer.

I turned to face Harry, this time demanding. "Harry, why?"

"My reasons are not personal, but business," he replied, his tone detached, his eyes devoid of emotion.

"You could have just asked me for the land," I said, my voice laced with bitterness. "I would have sold it to you."

Harry's laughed "Really, Damen? The last time I visited you in prison, I asked, did you sell it to me? No! You went ahead and sold it to the BS Corporation.'" He shook his head, his eyes cold with calculation. "If only you had cooperated, we wouldn't be here right now."

"You two will pay for this, I promise you." I vowed.

"Look at you now, a prisoner and a cripple. How the mighty have fallen." She turned to Harry, her expression softening as she wrapped her arms around him. "Come on, honey, let's go,"

"In the end, you're just a gold digger who married an old man for his money, just like Harvey always said." I sneered at her.

"Your sister made my life miserable, and now, as you rot in prison, I'll make sure she pays." She stepped on my wounded knee again, sending a jolt of pain through my body. Then, she turned and walked away, arm in arm with Harry, leaving me to my agony.
