Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Bonds Rekindled and the Road to the First Gym

Akira and Ray moved steadily through the dense forest, their eyes gleaming with determination. Towering trees surrounded them, and the sound of rustling leaves and chirping Bug-type Pokémon filled the air. They had turned their journey into a competition, aiming to see who could defeat more Pokémon before reaching the next town.

"That makes five for me!" Ray smirked as Mudkip stood triumphantly over a fainted Caterpie.

Akira clenched his fists. "Not for long! Charmander, use Ember!"

A burst of flames shot toward a Scyther, who dodged swiftly before retaliating with a Quick Attack. Charmander barely avoided the blow before countering with a well-placed Scratch, knocking the Scyther unconscious.

"That's five for me too!" Akira grinned.

As they continued deeper into the forest, an all-too-familiar voice cut through their friendly competition. "If you two really want to be champions, why waste time on weak Pokémon?"

Akira and Ray turned in shock. There he was again—the mysterious trainer who had challenged Akira before.

Ray stepped forward, eyes narrowed. "Then fight me instead! Akira already faced you. Let me show you what I can do!"

The two locked eyes, ready to battle, when suddenly a desperate cry for help echoed through the forest.

"Somebody! Please help!"

Without hesitation, all three of them rushed toward the source. As they arrived, they found a young girl cornered by an angry swarm of Beedrill. Her small Pichu trembled beside her, sparks flickering weakly from its cheeks.

"We have to help her!" Akira shouted.

Ray, Akira, and the mysterious trainer sprang into action. Mudkip, Charmander, and the trainer's Electabuzz battled fiercely, using Water Gun, Ember, and Thunder Punch to fend off the swarm. One by one, the Beedrill fell back until finally, the swarm dispersed into the forest.

The girl clung to her Pichu, her eyes brimming with gratitude. The mysterious trainer knelt and gently applied a potion to Pichu's wounds. As he stood up, he sighed and finally removed his hood.

Akira and Ray gasped. "William?!"

Their childhood friend smirked. "Took you two long enough to recognize me."

Ray scowled. "Why were you stalking us instead of just saying hi?"

William shrugged. "I wanted to see if you guys would recognize me. You always ignored me when we were kids because I kept losing battles."

Akira chuckled. "Well, you have improved. That battle we had was intense."

Ray crossed his arms. "Yeah, but I still don't think you're that strong."

William smirked. "Let's find out then. Let's finish our battle!"

Before the battle, they escorted the young girl home. She explained that her mother had always warned her about entering the forest alone, but she disobeyed, thinking she could handle it. William knelt beside her and said, "Our parents warn us for a reason. When I was younger, I made the same mistake, and I learned the hard way."

The girl nodded. "I won't do it again."

With their good deed done, the three friends made their way to the town's Pokémon Center. After resting, William and Ray stepped onto the battlefield. Akira watched intently, analyzing their styles.

Ray led with Mudkip, while William sent out Electabuzz. Despite the type disadvantage, Ray fought aggressively, using Mudkip's speed and water-based attacks to gain the upper hand. William adapted quickly, using Electabuzz's raw power to turn the tide. In the end, Ray managed to clinch victory.

William panted, recalling Electabuzz. "Not bad, Ray. You've definitely gotten stronger."

Akira grinned. "Now it's my turn!"

But before they could battle, they overheard whispers in the Pokémon Center.

"Did you hear about Team Darkness?"

"Yeah, they want to unite all the evil teams under one leader. But then what I don't know."

Akira and Ray exchanged puzzled glances. "Team Darkness?"

Meanwhile, some grunts of team darkness planning to attack in the town were Akira, Ray & William are resting.

Back in the Pokémon Center, Akira, Ray, and William refocused on their goal.

"First things first," William said. "We have to defeat the Gym Leader. He specializes in Dark-types, so we need a strategy."

Akira clenched his fists, determination burning in his eyes. "Then let's get stronger. The road to becoming Champion starts now!"
