Chapter 16 - A (not-so) Peaceful Day

Jihu woke up with a newfound resolve: today, he would live a quiet, uneventful day. No gravity chambers. No surprise interrogations. No nearly dying. Just a normal, peaceful day.

The universe had other plans.

---

**Morning Mishaps**

The first disaster struck at breakfast. Jihu had just settled into his seat, enjoying a rare moment of silence, when the Vinteris twins, Kael and Rael, slid into the seats across from him, both grinning like devils plotting their next scheme.

"You look way too relaxed, Jihu," Kael noted, stuffing his mouth with toast. "That's dangerous."

Rael nodded sagely. "Yeah, suspicious even. Are you finally giving up and admitting you're actually an AI experiment gone wrong?"

Jihu rolled his eyes. "I wish. At least then I wouldn't need sleep."

Their conversation was interrupted by Lucian Alderris, the golden-haired prince of perfection, who sat down beside Jihu with a sigh. "I've never seen someone take as many L's in one day as you did yesterday."

Jihu scowled. "Thanks for the support."

Lucian smirked. "Just saying, at this rate, you might get your own personal bed in the infirmary. Maybe even name it after you."

Before Jihu could respond, Selene Arventis arrived, carrying a cup of steaming tea, her crimson hair practically glowing in the morning light. "You're all being too mean. Jihu is learning, just… at his own, very slow, very painful pace."

Jihu groaned. "Can I have one meal without someone reminding me that I suck?"

"No," the table responded in unison.

**Classroom Chaos**

Jihu's first class of the day was **Advanced Space Navigation**, taught by Professor Alven, an old man with the patience of a saint—until someone messed up. And today, that someone was Jihu.

"Cadet Kang," Professor Alven sighed, rubbing his temples as Jihu's simulation pod blinked red, signifying **catastrophic failure**. "Explain to me how you managed to fly directly into an asteroid within *five seconds* of starting the exam."

Jihu scratched his head. "In my defense, space is big, and that asteroid came out of nowhere."

"It was stationary."

"…Right."

Laughter erupted throughout the classroom, with Kael and Rael nearly choking on their amusement.

Professor Alven sighed. "Do it again."

Jihu groaned. So much for a peaceful morning.

**The Cafeteria Incident**

During lunch, Jihu vowed to eat in peace. He should've known better. The cafeteria was a battlefield of its own, and today, the war was against… pudding.

"Alright, listen," Rael whispered conspiratorially as they lined up for dessert. "There's only one vanilla pudding left. We *need* to secure it."

Jihu narrowed his eyes. "Why do I feel like this is going to end badly?"

Kael was already preparing a distraction. "On my mark, Lucian 'accidentally' spills his drink, Rael swoops in, and Jihu—you just act natural."

Jihu sighed. "This is dumb."

It was also a disaster. Instead of just grabbing the pudding, Rael *tripped*, slammed into a table, which caused Lucian to *actually* spill his drink—directly onto Selene. The cafeteria went silent as she slowly stood up, her once-perfect uniform dripping with iced tea.

Jihu immediately grabbed his tray and started walking the other way. "Nope. I'm out."

Unfortunately, Selene had other ideas.

"Jihu." Her voice was deceptively calm.

He froze mid-step. "Y-Yes?"

"You're their roommate. Which means, by association, this is your fault."

"That's not how guilt works—"

Selene picked up a bowl of soup.

"WAIT, WAIT, WAIT—"

He didn't get to finish before the bowl's contents flew through the air.

**Evening Reflections**

By the time Jihu dragged himself back to the dorm, soup-stained and exhausted, he collapsed onto his bed with a groan.

"I hate all of you," he mumbled into his pillow.

Kael snickered. "Hey, at least you're memorable."

Rael grinned. "Yeah, legend says they're still cleaning up the mess in the cafeteria."

Lucian smirked. "Good job surviving, though."

Jihu exhaled. "I just wanted *one* peaceful day."

Selene, standing at the doorway with a fresh cup of tea, smiled. "Then you're definitely in the wrong school."

Jihu groaned. "I really am."

And with that, his "peaceful" day came to an end—just as chaotic as ever.
