-------------------------------------------------------------

Under normal circumstances, interns were only there to assist. If even the experienced medics struggled with a difficult case, the most the interns could do was observe and learn from the masters' techniques.

As for actually stepping in to help? That was practically impossible.

Midorima had been watching with amusement when Shusaku suddenly called his name.

"Teacher, I'm not skilled enough!" Midorima quickly protested.

"You just need to stabilize the patient and follow Inaba's instructions. Once I finish treating this patient, I'll come over," Shusaku instructed before ordering another ninja to fetch the on-break medics.

The other medical ninjas from Midorima's batch stared at him in surprise, their eyes filled with doubt. Even some of the assisting medics looked shocked and slightly resentful when they heard Shusaku's words.

'What kind of bullshit luck does this guy have to catch the captain's favor?'

Midorima rolled his eyes. 'Do they really think being called out in a situation like this is a blessing?'

Forcing an inexperienced person into action could easily lead to accidents. If he lost control, the patient might suffer further injuries.

After a brief moment of thought, Midorima decided to accept Shusaku's orders.

Not only did he need to save the ninja's life, but he also had to demonstrate his potential—otherwise, why would Shusaku bother submitting his thesis?

He had to give Shusaku a taste of his abilities.

"Do you know the Healing Jutsu?" the ninja performing surgery on the patient asked.

"Yes," Midorima replied, putting on a white coat and a mask.

It was a common medical ninjutsu, and after two months of training, Midorima had mastered it.

His chakra affinity was water-based, but he couldn't produce Yang-release chakra.

The reason for this was something he couldn't explain to others—questions like:

"If you don't know medical ninjutsu, how did you treat Mei's injuries?"

"If you can't produce Yang chakra, how did you use the Healing Jutsu?"

In truth, everything—including the healing of the wound inflicted by Zabuza—was achieved through the [Cell Laboratory] function.

As the name suggested, the [Cell Laboratory] worked on bodily cells, granting Midorima abilities different from other ninjas by activating or enhancing cellular functions.

As long as he had chakra, he could power the [Cell Laboratory], unlocking various abilities. However, under normal circumstances, its presence was barely noticeable.

Only when he summoned the virtual interface displaying a "structural diagram" could he truly sense the existence of this golden finger.

The [Cell Laboratory] had five functional zones, three of which were already unlocked, meaning he could use their abilities.

Each unlocked zone had a string of numbers indicating proficiency in certain functions. However, unlocking new zones depended on hidden conditions within each.

Theoretically, if he were lucky, he could unlock all five zones in a single day.

But that was just a theory.

When he first transmigrated, the [Cell Laboratory] came with one unlocked zone—the [Catalysis Chamber]. Its function was to drastically enhance cell regeneration for a short period after injury.

At the time, his stomach had been torn open. Even after transmigrating, he was still on the verge of death.

Fortunately, the [Catalysis Chamber] was powerful enough, and the examiner arrived in time, saving his life. This also triggered the hidden condition of the [Catalysis Chamber]—[Last Line of Defense], which allowed him to turn danger into safety when his life was threatened.

Soon after, the second functional zone was unlocked.

The [Power Chamber], which greatly activated cells in his body, providing abundant physical energy and increasing chakra production efficiency.

Chakra was primarily composed of physical energy and mental energy.

Mental energy came from training and accumulated experience, while physical energy was drawn from the cells.

The [Power Chamber] worked by massively stimulating cells, strengthening them, and thus boosting physical energy.

The original Midorima Asachi had been fairly strong—otherwise, he wouldn't have taken the graduation exam. In the year since transmigrating, he had constantly adapted to the increase in physical energy. By sparring with other examinees (and getting injured in the process), he accumulated mental energy, further increasing his chakra reserves.

Compared to experienced ninjas who frequently went on missions, his chakra might still be lacking. But among his peers—even Mei Terumī—he was no weaker.

That said, Mei had a Kekkei Genkai. He could only envy her.

Over the past year, the hidden condition of the [Power Chamber] remained locked—until Mei was severely injured. With no other choice, he activated the [Power Chamber] in desperation, stimulating Mei's cells and unlocking her chakra's potential, accelerating her healing.

The entire process had nothing to do with medical ninjutsu.

As Mei's wounds began to close, the virtual panel displayed a message: the hidden condition [Activation] had been unlocked—stimulating another person's cells, allowing them to temporarily utilize a fraction of the [Cell Laboratory]'s functions under the influence of Midorima's chakra.

Shortly after, the third functional zone, the [Chakra Conversion Chamber], was unlocked.

The [Chakra Conversion Chamber] allowed him to convert one chakra nature into another.

The [Catalysis Chamber] gave him extreme regenerative abilities, the [Power Chamber] provided the foundation for massive chakra reserves, and the [Conversion Chamber] expanded his offensive capabilities by enabling him to use other elemental releases.

The only downside was that the conversion process wasn't perfect—some chakra was lost.

Only at 100% proficiency could he achieve flawless conversion.

The reason he could use the Healing Jutsu was entirely due to the [Conversion Chamber].

At present, the proficiency levels of the three zones were:

- [Catalysis Chamber]: 60%

- [Power Chamber (Activation)]: 65%

- [Conversion Chamber]: 40%

With so many medical ninjas present, he couldn't use the [Activation] function—otherwise, he might raise suspicions. He had no choice but to grit his teeth and focus on converting his chakra into Yang chakra to perform the Healing Jutsu.

"Then… do your best. If you can't hold on, let me know in advance."

Clearly, the medical ninja named Inaba didn't fully trust Midorima.

Not that Midorima blamed him—even he wasn't confident.

Even if his chakra reserves surpassed his peers, a 60% loss rate was unsustainable.

During the treatment, Midorima concentrated intensely, ensuring that after the chakra scalpel was used, he immediately followed up to prevent excessive bleeding.

But as time passed, Midorima's chakra consumption skyrocketed, and the wound's healing speed slowed.

With no one else to assist, Midorima had no choice but to endure.

The two other medical ninjas from his batch watched in stunned silence.

Not everyone could perform under pressure like this—especially when coordinating with the lead surgeon.

If their teamwork was off, they could end up hindering each other, putting the patient in grave danger.

Moreover, even as an assistant, the chakra expenditure was immense. Running out of energy was a minor issue—delaying treatment was far worse.

Compared to Midorima, most rookies were completely outmatched.

After finishing with the first patient, Shusaku stood up, rubbing his waist, and walked over to Midorima.

The ninja wielding the chakra scalpel was drenched in sweat, but Midorima was in even worse shape—his sweat soaked through his mask and dripped down his face.

Shusaku was surprised by Midorima's performance, but more than that, he was pleased.

He had only called Midorima over as a last resort, yet the kid had managed to hold his own during the medical team's most critical moment.

'This kid… has potential.'

Just as he was about to relieve Midorima, another ninja rushed into the ward.

"Where's Midorima Asachi?"

"Huh?" Midorima looked up in confusion. He didn't recognize the man.

The ninja spotted him and waved. "You're Midorima Asachi? Come with me—the Mizukage wants to see you."
