Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 Be coming

I grew up listening to my grandfather's stories, accompanying a coffin from the age of five. It's impossible not to develop a strong sense of courage. The things my grandfather taught me, though I hadn't practiced them, I never doubted.Just now, I drove away Old Huang, and my confidence is soaring. So, when I felt the female corpse staring at me again, I wasn't as scared as I was in the daytime. I climbed into bed and lay down, since this bed was the cleanest thing in the room.Although my body lay down, my mind didn't.After some random thoughts, I suddenly noticed the smell of corpse perfume growing stronger in the room. I inhaled a little, and that scent slowly became a warm current that spread through my body.Realizing something was wrong, I tried to move, but was horrified to find that my body couldn't move. My eyelids were so heavy that I couldn't even lift them. But I wasn't sleepy; on the contrary, my mind was clearer than ever. The scent of the corpse intensified, and my lower abdomen felt like it was on fire. The worst part was the rustling sound beside me, as if the female corpse had gotten up.No matter how brave I was, I was scared at this point.I regretted it, thinking, "Why did I lie here with her?"If she were to resurrect, I'd probably end up drained dry.As they say, "Fear attracts what you fear," just as I thought that, I felt a face getting closer to my neck.In an instant, my whole body tensed, and goosebumps popped up all over.Just as I was in terror, a cold, soft thing covered my mouth. Not biting my neck to drink blood, but my lips?I was confused. But the cool sensation felt nice, and it made me forget my fear.Unfortunately, it only lasted for a few seconds before the icy lips left my mouth.I felt a bit regretful, wanting to lift my head and follow it, but I couldn't move.Amidst the rustling sounds, it seemed the female corpse had returned to her lying position. She didn't bite me?Was it because I had performed the rituals?Did she desire a man too?I thought wildly, and my mind became more sluggish. Before I knew it, I fell asleep. The next morning, I woke up suddenly and sat up on the bed.Taking a few deep breaths, my first instinct was to look at the female corpse. She was still lying on the bed, covered with a black cloth, seemingly unmoved. But when I got out of bed, I noticed she had moved. She had shifted a little further away, as if avoiding me.I gasped.Could it be that she wasn't dead?I recalled how limp she was when I carried her up the mountain, which didn't seem like a dead body at all.I hesitated for a moment, feeling the need to confirm whether she had a heartbeat. Her body felt cold through her clothes. But she was soft.Fearing that my result might be inaccurate, I checked for a long time. After about ten minutes, I confirmed that she indeed had no heartbeat and reluctantly withdrew my hand.I felt embarrassed, my face burning hot.It felt like I had done something wrong. Not wanting to linger, I remembered the book under her.I gave an excuse, saying, "I didn't mean to touch you, but if I didn't check, I might accidentally set you on fire. Now, I just need to grab something!"Saying that, I reached under her and found the book still there. After leaving the old house, I felt like I had done something shameful, and I couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. After walking a few steps, I realized that it wasn't just guilt; there really was a pair of eyes watching me.A little yellow weasel had been following me.I pretended not to see it.Back home, my mom was in the yard chopping pig grass, and she asked where I had been.I said I had been to find Little Fat. She hesitated for a moment but finally just told me to be careful and to tell the family if anything happened.I nodded and went into my room, taking out the old book.At first, I didn't think much of it, just curious. There was no title on the cover, but when I opened the first page, I was startled. This book was the second volume of the one my grandfather had! After the shock, I was deeply confused.Did my grandfather have a connection with that coffin?Or did he hide this book in it?The coffin had been in his room for so many years; he had the opportunity. But after finishing the whole book, I concluded that my grandfather could never have hidden it.Because the second volume talked about a Qi cultivation method.Only when one has Qi in their body can the things in the first volume be useful.Grandfather's life was always incomplete because he lacked this Qi.Given his obsession with the first volume, if he had the second volume, he wouldn't have hidden it.Could it be that my grandfather had entered the Ten Thousand Great Mountains, encountered the female corpse, or her kin, and obtained the first volume from them?Unfortunately, he had passed away, and I could never get the answer.I looked over the second volume again, and the content, which had already surpassed ordinary perspectives, completely overturned my understanding.I even began to suspect that my grandfather might have glimpsed a part of the second volume, which made him become so obsessed.Because the contents of this volume were enough to drive a normal person insane.Unfortunately, after looking at it for a long time, I still couldn't figure out what it was talking about. At noon, I didn't see my second uncle and was worried that he had gone back to the old house, so I asked. My dad said that my second uncle had already returned to the city, but before leaving, he had given me an address in case I needed anything.Grandfather once said that no matter how clever a weasel becomes, its brain is still not enough.I didn't think anything would happen with the yellow weasel, so I put the address from my second uncle away.I didn't know much about my second uncle.I only knew that he had gone to the city a long time ago and came back to see grandfather two or three times a year, always bringing me some good food.It was also said that if not for my second uncle, I wouldn't have been able to finish middle school.Otherwise, after finishing elementary school, my father would have made me stay at home to carry on the family line. After breakfast, while the adults were working in the fields, I ran to the chicken coop, grabbed a big rooster, and took the麻绳 my mom used to make shoe soles.I then sneaked back to the old house. On the way there, the little yellow weasel followed me again.I held the rooster in my hand, secretly pleased with myself. They say no man is without his own dirty secrets, and likewise, there's no weasel that doesn't steal chickens.I entered the yard, and the scent of the corpse was no longer there. However, it seemed to come and go in waves, and would surely spread again at night. That woman, always a troublemaker, would eventually attract someone more powerful than Old Huang. In the yard, I slaughtered the rooster and deliberately splattered its blood all over. When the yellow weasel saw the blood, its eyes lit up from afar, but I didn't just want to catch a small one, I planned to catch them all.Otherwise, if I didn't kill the snake, it would come back to bite me.After dealing with the rooster, I used the old stove to stew it whole. Then, I sat in front of the female corpse's bed, tying a few simple knots. These knots were easy to make, but they were perfect for trapping small animals.Once done, the chicken was half cooked, just right.I tore off the chicken's rear end, pretended to throw it away in disgust, and tossed it into the woods. The yellow weasel couldn't resist and went after it.Once it left, I quickly set up the knots by the window and door.
