Alone, I wait for something I hoped would never come.
The bed of needles I lay on shakes.
I hear a voice calling, but I don't know where from.
Will I hear him when I leave?
Alone, I pray for something I know is sure to come.
Is it darkness before dawn?
I hear a voice calling and telling me not to be afraid.
The fears surrounding me disappear.
(Before Dawn)
Willard found himself surrounded by stench and filth, to the screams of the maddened crowd that looked down on him from the heights of the towering ruins, right above the circling void in the sky, right above the dry ground on which the blood of others had been spilled countless times.
The dark elf stood beside him as if Willard didn't exist, and neither did the rest of the gladiators. She wore leather armor and twirled a jagged dagger in her fingers, her face beautiful, smarmy, but her gaze was rough and hard, her lips glistening with aggressive, sharp piercings.
"Holy shit, is that a real dark elf? She's hot," he thought, curving his lips at the pain in his head.
That last blow hurt like hell. It seemed a miracle that he could regain consciousness. But his muscles were tense, and his body was as energized as ever, as if something in it was keeping him alive and normal. Soon the headache was gone, too. The enviable regeneration or strength of his own body was incredibly satisfying, though it left questions.
Will began to catch himself thinking that sometimes his body behaved spontaneously, as if something strange lived in it. But was it worth paying attention to such fictions when he was in the middle of the arena?
Before he could begin his duty panic, Will sighed and stepped back, right up against the cold gray rock overhanging the participants.
"Number one, we don't attract attention."
It wasn't about jokes now, because lives were on the line. Bitch Vanessa would pay for her game, of course, but thoughts of the upcoming battle took priority.
"There's no escape, obviously. The robot guards must be guarding the surroundings, eh... And they shoot fast, the bastards. Will I ever be able to beat their speed?"
What was happening in the arena was different from the Justice League storyline. In the correct version, Superman should have been in the arena instead of Will. He and Drego would have fought a bloody battle where Superman would have prevailed, and then Drego would have been literally thrown in the trash.
"Since I ended up here, are you now suggesting I fight against Drego? Fucking hell. Whoever scripted my life, if there is one, I want to punch you in the face, asshole! This is fucking unbelievable! I like to read fucking stories about pathetic heroes, but I don't want to be a part of them! I'm a fucking normal guy who likes a normal life, not battles with sweaty men!" - Will finished his mental diarrhea and ran his fingers over his lips, it helped him focus.
And a fool would have realized that Mongul had put the most notorious assassins and thugs against him. Even with his unique "superpowers" he would have a hard time fighting them directly. It's like giving a recruit a bazooka and saying, "Go ahead and shoot, kid, you'll figure it out somehow". But your hands are shaking and you don't know how to shoot, by the way (and it takes years to learn).
Will was jolted out of his reverie by Mongul's booming voice, which announced the start of the battle. The gladiators prepared for the carnage, and the three-meter ogre and Dreigo were the first to clash, shaking the air.
Will hid among the rocks and watched, hoping he wouldn't be noticed.
His best plan was to wait for Drego to kill everyone so he could finish him off in the back somehow. It wasn't a warrior's act, but he wasn't a warrior!
"Take a sober assessment of your strength and stay out of the way, Will. Things are bad, but we didn't get out of this mess. Ideally, I can rely on my legs and run until the key moment," and that was a joke, because such behavior would make the crowd want to throw rotten tomatoes and shit at him. If the crowd likes you, you can be pardoned, but if they don't like you, you're guaranteed death. They want blood and murder. Will didn't approve.
The cold stones of the World of War were warmer than any bed now, for they sheltered him from the eyes of bloodthirsty foes. A step away from running to another shelter, Will suddenly noticed the looming shadow beneath his feet, and a sharp blade flashed before his eyes.
«Wow... you ducked, that's funny," the dark elf whispered, drawing her dagger across her gray lips, which were contorted in a caustic grin. - I look at you and think, you're not a warrior. How did you end up here, handsome?
Kiriel sat on a tall piece of stone, contemplating her "opponent" with her scarlet ruby eyes in a somewhat lazy pose. Her black, strong legs were encased in black leather pants, and her large, confident breasts heaved confidently upward. Noticing Will's interested gaze on her, she chuckled briefly, seemingly not seeing Will as a worthy opponent.
«Look, you better stay out of my way, baby. I'm not what I look like, and I'll kick your ass. You also remind me of Azshara from World War II," Will said, not finding the beauty's lust for murder or intent to kill, but stepping back just in case.
Kirielle arched an eyebrow, laughing.
«You're funny. And cute. I'd make you my slave and fuck you in the evenings, but alas, little one, you will die tonight. If the mob spares you, I'll let you live.
«You know, it's not such a bad plan, but I'll pass. I have a girlfriend, and I wouldn't cheat on her," Will grinned.
«Then let's dance.
«Can I say no?
«Refuse, but then I'll just kill you.
Kiriel jumped off the cobblestone and slashed her silver blade through the air right in front of Will's nose. And moving forward in sharp spurts, she swung at his neck with swift, snakelike lunges that made his blood run cold. They read the desire to bleed him. To take his life and end this fight forever.
«Fight back, cheer me up! - came off a mocking smile.
Red, bright eyes glittered in the shadows, and Kiriel ducked deep into the ruins they had run up to. Will lost her among the dusty, sandy walls of light-colored stone, as if they were in Egyptian lands, and began to listen fluently with the Sphere of Sensation.
"She's following my lead, hell, are they all going to be this fast around here?", but the worst part was that this Cunt was treating the deadly battle as some sort of game.
But none of the elf's blows hit the target. At the last moment, when Kiria cornered Will, he instinctively moved behind her and elbowed her in the head. Kyria's head smacked into a huge cobblestone wall, leaving a bloody trail, and collapsed to the ground. And that was it. Silent, not moving, not speaking.
Experiencing unthinkable and unexpected tension, Will stared at Kirielle's ass and scratched his head in utter incomprehension. The ass was gorgeous.
«Oh, this is kind of embarrassing. All that talent gone. It's a good thing no one saw it. I don't know which one of us is more embarrassed, you or me. Man, I hope I didn't kill her. Hey, you all right there, baby?
He touched Kyria's ass (firm, nice, everything in place), but she didn't respond in any way. She was breathing. Not her ass, but Kiriya's.
Will sighed quietly, taking her dagger and running away from the fighting gladiators. As he ran out from behind the rubble, a huge monolith flew before his eyes - it was Drego fighting Ogre. Waves of dust were coming from their battle, the ground shook, and the spectators howled. After watching them for a moment, Will figured he wouldn't have as much luck fighting them as he had with Kiria.
«Fuck it.
«Zzzzza-r," it sounded above Will's ear.
The mantis-like creature attacked him in a sudden leap. A blade whistled before Will's eyes, and he jerked fearfully to the side.
«What?!
***
«What?! - Vanessa shouted.
«Oh-oh, how he's chopping, bitch! - shouted the grandmother, jerking her arms.
Vanessa had been watching for some time now as Willard, who had been thrown into the arena, got into one fight after another and miraculously survived.
"Am I really seeing this?" - she rubbed her eyes.
The crowd screamed, drowning out all thought. There was no stopping their madness.
«May I present to you an Uzrikzuan from the planet Uzrikzul! - His deadly blades cut through steel with ease, and he has countless murders to his credit! He is speed itself, and often his victims die before realizing what has happened!
***
«J-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j, fuck you! - Willard shouted.
«J-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j!
«I don't understand you!
«Zzzzzzzzz, zzzzzzzzz!!!
The lightning-fast attacks whistled at his nose and ears, leaving an unpleasant, growing pain after each attack. Will's body was rapidly covered with thin, stinging cuts.
The speed of the Uzbekzuan was incomparably better than the previous opponent.
And yet the end never came.
Dodging the blows in the last fraction of a second, each time, Will saw his own end there, in the remaining moments that Nz-z-zik's blade flew within an inch of veins and deadly vulnerable zones. His breathing quickened, treacherously clutching his nervously beating chest. But it was as if the body itself denied the very possibility of death. Resisted it. Wouldn't let itself be killed.
Will could barely see the Mantis' blades, but he lacked quite a bit of his own speed to stop or counter it, and gradually his head began to spin from the attacks flashing before his eyes. He could not withstand such an onslaught.
He didn't get the first blow back in time, and the blade sliced through his shoulder. His arm ached.
A second blow grazed his leg and nearly knocked him to the ground. His leg hurt.
Wounded and sweating, Will stood in front of Nz-z-zik, seemingly for the last time.
«Come on, bitch, for the last time, at least do it man-to-man," he muttered painfully, wryly.
"I can't think of a worse opponent. If I don't beat back the next blow, I'm finished," but no matter how hard he tried earlier, he couldn't. He was just moments away from catching Nz-z-zik's blade.
Will concentrated and prepared for the final push. There would be no escape. And he was betting on a surprise attack that would knock N-z-zik out.
"Just one sure shot to the head. I just need one punch to knock him out and I can win."
He blinked...
"I wish I could go back to Kara."
And Nz-z-zik's vertical blade loomed directly over him, moving slightly faster than before. Will threw Kyria's dagger away with all his might in a defensive maneuver.
Clang.
"Oh, shit!"
And he was thrown back against the cobblestone, knocking the air out of his lungs.
Nz-z-zik leaned victoriously over Willard Light, raising his blade to the top.
«Zippity, zippity, zippity, zippity!
The dust kicked up into the air filled her lungs.
It was like the Mantis was taunting him. Didn't want to kill quickly. He was playing.
However, that was not the case. Nz-z-zik cautiously approached his opponent and scrutinized his unconscious face. He'd planned to kill Willard Light in one blow when he'd caught him off guard, but something had gone wrong, and the human body had dodged to the side as if it knew where the blow would come from.
There was something strange and incomprehensible in all the human's movements, which did not escape Nz-z-zik's experienced eyes: the human was always accelerating at the moment of death, as if driven by a mysterious reaction. But as opposed to dodging, the little man always slowed down in his attacks, as if he didn't know how to do it properly.
Hovering over his defeated foe, Nz-z-zik hesitated for some time before raising his weapon for the final blow. Something inside him, an animal, warned him to refrain from such foolishness. Something ancient was keeping him from making a serious mistake, something that ruled over reason and stemmed from the ancient animal wisdom that said run and don't look back.
But the proud warrior of his race, the Uzrikzuan Nz-z-z-zik could not forgive himself for his blunder in killing a human. Usually killing a victim in one blow, this time he failed in a dozen. Nz-z-z-zik's thoughts were preoccupied with this failure, gnawing at him from within like a corrosive curse. The same failure had become a thorn in his side.
He's killed people before. And it was easy. But the little man somehow managed to dodge his blows, and then another and another. At some point, Nz-z-zik began to think he would never make it, and a slight fear and panic came over him. That kind of power in his Green World didn't come out of nowhere, and for an Uzrikzuan as a half-animal, it was cause for concern.
And yet the little man lay at his feet, so it was all over.
The crowd cheered in anticipation of a new victim. In anticipation of his victory!
«J-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j!

Kara flew with Clark at top speed through star space. Not even the fastest spaceship without a light jump could keep up with them. But Kara's heart was beating even faster. She was worried.
«Don't worry," Clark smiled reassuringly, but it was an uncertain smile. Iron Man was a bad liar in general," He'll be fine. He's a smart guy.
«Yeah, I know," Kara confirmed.
A huge yellow planet appeared right in front of them. It was almost several times the size of Earth. From space, this soulless piece of land looked more like a vast desert, and its name was War World, one of the most horrible and violent planets in the galaxy. It was almost impossible to find Willard Light here.
But that impossibility lost all significance in front of two Kryptonians whose strength and speed exceeded all reasonable possibilities. Clark was capable of hearing another's voice on the other side of the Earth, which allowed him to find even the most secretive people in the world. The other question was, would his hearing be able to envelope a planet that was much larger than tiny Earth? The World of War was a giant.
Foreseeing trouble, Clark couldn't reveal his assumptions to a worried Kara. He hoped that he could find Willard before something irreparable happened. In the short time they'd been in contact, the funny guy had become not only a good friend, but a member of his family.
Noticing Kara's sad face, Clark clenched his fist resolutely.
Seeing your cousin's face like that...?
«I'll fly ahead," he said firmly.
And he sprinted forward, disappearing from Kara's sight in a few moments.
She couldn't keep up with her cousin if she wanted to, and she froze confusedly in space. Strong feelings made her show weakness. She was scared. Confused.
It won't take Clark more than ten minutes to find Will.
And yet, unfortunately, even Iron Man wasn't allowed to make it in time.

Willard lost consciousness, but the echoes of his "I" didn't disappear. It was as if he were in a dream, falling into an endless dark abyss.
At that moment, the darkness around him shuddered, revealing two huge eyes that glittered with a yellow flash.

Nz-z-ik's blade came down on Willard Light's head with a sure whistle, but at the last moment he disappeared.
In a sudden flash that illuminated the entire arena, the air exploded in lightning strikes, and sparkling lightning strikes ran all over the ground, striking the stands and blinding the onlookers.
The worst of it was the frightened Nz-ik, who didn't realize what was happening. Only the shaking underfoot and the vibrations in the air hinted that the enemy was not finished.
He was answered by the presence of someone else from above. Nz-z-ik looked up and saw Willard sitting on a high rock, except that there was something different about Willard. He was smiling. The human was smiling.
«Buzz, buzz, buzz!
«Oh... and how did I end up here? - He mumbled thoughtfully.
The vague indifference and disregard of the opponent Nz-z-zik faced was taken as an insult by him. And he attacked without thinking.
«Look at him! - The speaker shouted, "The fierce Nz-z-ik is rapidly attacking the Earthman. Wait! I can't see anything, can you?! It's so fast! The Green Planet native lives up to his title of Fastest Gladiator! But wait, what's that-- The Earthman dodged?!
The blade did fly past, a few centimeters from Willard's neck, but the surprises didn't end there.
Nz-z-ik froze in place unable to understand why his paw was frozen in the air. No, it wasn't like that. Nz-z-ik was stopped.
«The Earthman holds Nz-z-zik's incredibly sharp paw and won't let him move! That's strength! An ordinary human was able to hold on to Uzrikzuan? But how could he do that?! Nz-z-zik is the fastest!?! All right, gentlemen! Our Uzrikzuan still has a trump card of about ten times the strength of a human!
Indeed, Will's hand began to tremble and gradually yielded to Uzrikzuan. Soon death awaited him, but the Earthman himself showed no fear.
«Has our earthling run out of trumps?! THE CROWD IS OUT FOR BLOOD!!!
THE AUDIENCE HOWLED.
«Oh...how noisy they are.
Willard scratched his head and sighed, glancing at the mantis-faced creature that was staring at him with its large eyes, then glanced at his trembling palm, which his opponent was pressing with furious force. His heart was beating noisily. The bowl of chakra that was bubbling within him was barely moving through his body.
«What an inept way to utilize the chakra in the body. No wonder I'm in trouble. Let's use it properly," Will said thoughtfully, finally squeezing Nz-z-zik's paw and being covered in flashes of lightning that struck the ground and the godlike gladiator himself.
And now Nz-z-zik could barely hold the hand that Will was pressing against him, literally pinning him to the ground. Finally Will turned his attention to Nz-z-zik himself. - I'm sorry, buddy, I didn't mean to bother you, but can you tell me where I am?
«Zh-zh-zhu!
Nz-z-z-zik struck with his free paw, but the little man disappeared right in front of him and reappeared behind him as if nothing had happened. This time, the little man ignored his opponent in the middle of the fight and walked around the battlefield trying to find something.
«Hmmm... that's the trouble, I'm clearly not in Konoha.
Will looked around. Looking at him, Nz-z-zik thought that this guy didn't look like a gladiator. He looked more like a lost wanderer who didn't realize he was in the arena. And yet there was a cold realization in his gaze that did not escape Nz-z-ik's attentive eyes. The little man was probably pretending to be stupid and fooling him!
«Okay, I get it-" Will slammed his fist into the palm of his hand.
But Nz-z-ik didn't wait for Will to speak; he attacked him, missing again.
A flash flew in front of his eyes and Nz-z-zik buzzed irritably!
After only a moment, Nz-z-ik's armor sagged under a powerful, battering ram-like blow. In an instant, something nailed him to the ground like a boulder falling from the sky. Nz-z-zik's shell crunched and crumpled like cardboard, pressing tighter and tighter and tighter into the dry, cracking earth.
Through unimaginable pain, the confused and frightened Uzrikzuanin lifted a trembling gaze upwards, expecting to see at least the huge boulder that had been used to crush him, but he saw something completely unimaginable - it was not the boulder or even the titan Drego that had nailed him, but a human whose foot was pressing into the ground like a small bug.
Sighing, Will rubbed his nose with his finger and smiled cheerfully. The energy rushed from his body, surging through all the chakra streams like a broken dam under the onslaught of a huge wave, nearly tearing off his fingers in shockwaves. Such unimaginable power was exactly what Nz-z-zik had noticed in Willard Light earlier, but now it was being used on a regular basis.
«I thought you were the fastest," Will smiled, clenching his fist as chakra swirled around him. It ripped through the air and sent a shockwave throughout the arena, hitting the bleachers, where people screamed in fright," he added, squeezing the chakra in his hand with obvious effort, and everything suddenly quieted, as if he were hiding a monstrous storm in one hand.
In the stillness, Nz-z-zik looked up, fearing he was about to be torn apart, but saw only a slight smile in the sunlight. The realization came - the little man hadn't meant to kill him. The little man was a valiant warrior.
