The humvee drove fast, but the road was a mess.
A lot of cars were parked on the road, making the street congested. Miss Shizuka was able to maneuver the vehicle through the sea of abandoned vehicles and zombies, but it wasn't easy.
Sometimes, she had to go to a narrow alley. In these moments, the zombies became a problem.
There were too many of them.
We had to stop and take care of them before we could continue. Fortunately, Saeko and I were pretty proficient with swords. I still used her wooden sword but with my new strength, I could bash any zombies' head with just a swing.
When we were done cleaning, we hopped on the humvee and continued on our journey.
This repeated a few times and we had to stop for a bit to rest. We also ate and drank something to recover our stamina.
"We almost arrived. Takagi Estate is just 10 minutes away now." Miss Shizuka announced from the driver's seat.
I sat on the rear passenger side and looked around. The protagonist and his part was nowhere in sight. If we reach Takagi Estate before meeting them, I would only get 15 Shop Points, which was a bit of a waste.
However, I was kind enough to take a detour to find them. If we didn't meet, then it wasn't our fate to meet now.
"Let's continue on this route."
"Alright, let's go." Miss Shizuka nodded and stepped on the gas.
As the humvee sped up, Saeko, sitting beside me, suddenly spoke up. "Brother, do you hear that?"
"Hear what?" I asked.
"That sound. It's... I don't know, but it sounds like a scream." She replied.
My eyes widened.
Following that, I opened the window to hear more clearly.
'Yes, there is definitely a scream coming from afar.'
It was faint, but it was there. A woman's scream, to be precise.
"Miss Shizuka, stop for a second." I said and got out from the humvee. Saeko also followed me.
Standing in the middle of the street, I tried to listen closely but there was no other voice. I couldn't pinpoint the direction where it came from but...
"I think it's from over there."
Miss Shizuka pointed in a certain direction.
'Oh, the Takagi Estate was on that side. How convenient.' I grinned. "Let's go. We are going to save someone!"
I hopped back on the humvee, followed by Saeko.
"Alright, let's go!" Miss Shizuka replied with a big smile and drove the humvee towards the source of the scream.
If the protagonist wasn't at Takagi's place, he might be there. I remembered they were attacked by a horde of infected on their way.
Maybe, even when Saeko wasn't there with them, they also experienced something similar. After all, they were being hunted by zombies. It was only natural that they were in danger.
And as I expected, after a few minutes, I finally saw a groups surrounded by the zombie horde. They were backed to the corner, with two people holding a bat and a sharp pole trying to keep the zombies away.
I recognized them instantly. It was Takashi, Kohta, and two girls!
"Go! Let's help them!" I told Miss Shizuka, "Drive to the opposite side of where they are to distract the zombie! I will go with Saeko to help them straight."
"Alright!" She nodded and stepped on the pedal. The humvee accelerated and reached the group in a matter of seconds.
The car stopped right in front of them, and I quickly got out of the vehicle, brandishing my M1A1. It was time to kill them.
"Over here, zombie bastard." I shouted to get their attention, a large grin plastered on my face.
Ratatata!
The M1A1 fired a barrage of bullets at the zombie's head, causing them to fall over dead. Then, I aimed at another one and pulled the trigger.
The zombies were slow and stupid, so they couldn't react to my gunfire. They just stood there like idiots, letting me kill them one by one.
My magazine emptied pretty quickly. Seeing this, I grabbed the AR-10 on my back and threw it.
"Hey, fatty. Take this."
Hirano Kohta was quick to catch it and took a stance. He was a military otaku, so he knew how to use the gun.
"Oooh!" A small gasp escaped from his lips. "This is a real AR-10. Oh my God, it's the real thing! And the magazine is still full! You're the best!"
He was a bit excited to see a real gun, but his excitement didn't last long when he saw the zombies approaching him. His expression changed to that of horror, but he still aimed the gun and fired at them.
Bang!
With a pull of the trigger, the gun fired and a zombie's head exploded. Blood and brains splattered everywhere, but Kohta ignored it. He was too focused on the zombies to care about the blood.
Saeko and I were doing a great job clearing the zombies. We bashed their heads in, sliced their limbs, or stabbed their forehead.
Takashi and Rei also began to help us by hitting the zombies with the blunt weapon they had.
After a few minutes of fighting, we finally managed to clear all the zombies. There were still some of them wandering around the area, but they weren't much of a problem.
[Ding! You have received 50 Shop Points + 1 Strength]
We took a short rest and gathered around the humvee. Everyone panted heavily except for me and Saeko. I only felt slightly tired.
"T-Thank you for saving us." Takashi said to me, his eyes widened upon realization, "You're... The senior on the roof?"
"Busujima Daiki, nice to meet you." I said with a smile, "This is my sister, Saeko. And that's our nurse teacher, Miss Shizuka."
"Nice to meet you, everyone." Saeko greeted with a smile and a small bow. Miss Shizuka only waved her hand at them.
"Hello, I am Komuro Takashi."
"Ooh, senior Busujima! Nice to meet you! I'm Hirano Kohta!" Kohta introduced himself, grinning like a fool.
His glasses were a bit dirty, but he didn't seem to mind it at all. He was just happy to see a real gun.
"Takagi Saya. Nice to meet you." Saya replied simply.
She was still wary of us, but her tone was softer than before. Probably because I saved her.
"Miyamoto Rei."
Rei looked a bit uncomfortable upon seeing us. I knew she had some kind of bad relationship with Saeko, and me because of what happened in the cafeteria, so I didn't blame her.
So she kept her head down.
"We need to get out of here for now. The humvee is big enough for all of us as long as there is someone willing to stay on the roof." I said.
"Oh, senior. Let me return this first." Kohta handed the rifle back to me, but I shook my head.
"Take it. And here are the spare magazines. One of them only has 17 ammos, I used them before."
"Are you sure?" Kohta asked.
I nodded. "Of course. I have another rifle as well. It's better if you have something to defend us."
Kohta's eyes glimmered with happiness as he hugged the AR-10. "Thank you, senior!"
Grateful for my help, he was very respectful towards me. With this, I got a friend to talk about guns and other military stuff, which would be useful for me.
'Getting on good terms with him would be beneficial. He's a good gunner, which is rare for civilians. So having him in the group is good because he can cover my back.'
Afterward, we hopped on the humvee and told them we were going to Takagi Estate, which surprised Saya. Kohta was willing to stay on the rooftop. He wanted to fire the gun again and I had no reason to stop him.
Sitting inside, I reloaded my empty magazine and we continued our journey.
