"Dunk! Dunk!" David heard the shouts of his in-game name half drowsy and it was irritatingly unpleasant.
"I am coming," replying in an unpleasant tone, David got up from the bench before making his way towards the centre of the ground, 'Damn, how could I not fall asleep? The sun is shining, it's warm and even the birds are chirping smoothly!'
Although it was just a game, he didn't get that feeling at all. In truth more than his cramped up apartment house this was better in all aspects.
Pushing through the crowd of players gathered at the training ground, he stepped onto a spacious field where the, disgruntled instructor was waiting. He was a gray-haired old man in an orange robe, holding a staff.
"Again? I doubt that they will get tamed!"
David grumbled at the sight of a bunch of monsters, it has already been a week since he had started playing however instead of graduating from the academy and getting to actually playing he was still stuck in the tutorial.
In front of him, a row of monsters stood. A bullock, a huge chicken and a young wolf cub lastly a…frog?
'Ha. Where are those impressive monsters I saw on the first day?'
On the first day when he entered the game was actually the day of a few new profession being introduced into the game and one such was "MONSTER TAMER" most people were eager because instead of slaying monsters you would actually get to tame them.
"Dunk. Maybe this time you won't disgrace yourself and actually tame a monster?" the NPC resembling an old man said irritably.
"Tame this, tame that…I am monster killer , not a babysitter!" David growled looking down at the NPC.
His arms were thicker than the old man's entire body, for a warrior the most important thing is physique since David was already a bulky guy with over 187 cm of height by playing basketball he choose not to alter his appearance.
"Stop the rubbish, since you choose to study here! Get to work without grumbling." The NPC waved his hand angrily before walking away.
"Loser! Come on, maybe you'll tame a monster today!", someone shouted, and the other newbie players laughed.
However, the instant Dunk turned around everyone fell silent at once. He also glared at them and ran his thumb across his neck with a twisted expression and no one dared to laugh anymore.
"Hey chicken! Wanna be my partner?" David approached the chicken with the best smile he could muster he asked while kneeling down.
"Co..crkkk--!" The chicken made a strange sound and the next second it was dead on the ground, David sighed and stored the feather it dropped in his inventory.
'At least I could get few bucks from selling this item.'
"Hey, bull!" David called the cute baby bull towering over it, "Wanna be my pet?"
"Guurrhhh---"
The bull fainted on the spot.
"…"
"Are all your monsters defective?" David shook his head while looking at the old man NPC and walked over to the wolf.
"Hey pup-! Wht-?"
Before even finishing his line David was faced with the charging wolf with ferocity, "The hell?"
BAAAM—
Without moving he simply slapped it down to the ground and it collapsed on the ground, rolling over a couple of time, "Damn, tough scales! My palm stings."
David looked at his palm and grimaced, the wolf got up and quickly ran behind the NPC seeing the chaos the frog had already ran into the forest escaping from the place.
"Stooooooop! Fail! You failed the taming exam!", the old man yelled, and David clicked his tongue.
"HA, stupid monsters" He muttered and walked back. Other players looked at him like he was god descended from the heavens!
Well, that was a lie. They looked at him like he was some kind of reptoid.
'Haa, let's just go and sleep for now and complete that hidden quest later!'
Leaving the exam field, David headed back to my room in the dorm. Players have a real academy here. It's huge and located in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by wild forests full of monsters. It's only because of these forests that David haven't run away yet.
And tomorrow is the weekend!
The academy consisted of two rings and a center. The second ring, the outer one, is the residential area. That's where the dorms, cafeterias, restaurants, gyms, libraries, and more are.
The first ring, the inner one, has classrooms, sports and training fields, arenas for duels, and various other stuff for training and monster development. I've never been there. And the central part of the academy is the administration.
Looking out the window, David saw that other newbie players were also taking the monster taming exams.
'Well, who cares!'
David threw off the white and gold academy uniform and folded it in the wardrobe by the left wall, then flopped onto the huge bed on the right.
He is big and stretching out in his bed is his favourite part of the day.
