Chapter 44 - The Awakening Tides

The Gathering Darkness

The wind carried whispers of something ancient. Kael could feel it, an ominous force stirring in the very fabric of reality. Ever since Seraphine's warning, an unsettling presence had lingered in the corners of his mind, like a shadow waiting for its moment to strike.

He walked through the streets of the city, blending in among the mortals. The illusion of normalcy was fragile—too fragile. Every face he passed, every conversation he overheard, only reinforced one thing: something was coming.

Seraphine had told him that others remembered. But who? And where? He needed answers, and he needed them now.

---

The Hunt Begins

Kael made his way to the outskirts of the city, where the towering ruins of the old world stood as a testament to a forgotten past. This was a place where the echoes of his former self lingered, where the scars of the war between gods and mortals still remained.

He placed his hand on a shattered pillar, closing his eyes.

And then, he reached out.

Who else remembers? Who else survived?

At first, there was nothing. Just silence. Then—

A pulse.

A ripple across the fabric of existence.

And then—

A voice.

"You finally call upon the lost ones, Kael. Took you long enough."

His eyes snapped open, and the world around him shifted.

---

The Forgotten Ones

Kael was no longer in the ruins. Instead, he stood in a vast expanse of darkness, stars flickering around him like dying embers. Before him stood three figures, their presence overwhelming yet eerily familiar.

One of them stepped forward, a towering man with silver eyes that seemed to pierce through reality itself.

"You thought you erased us," he said, his voice carrying the weight of ages. "But existence is not so easily undone. We have watched. We have waited. And now, the time has come."

Kael straightened, unafraid. "Who are you?"

The man smirked. "We are the remnants of what you cast aside. The forgotten gods. The forsaken warriors. The beings too strong to simply fade away."

Kael's grip tightened. "And what do you want?"

Another figure, a woman cloaked in shadows, spoke next. "Balance. The destruction of the gods left a void. And something is coming to fill it. Something worse than anything we have ever known."

---

A War Beyond Gods

Kael exhaled slowly. "Then we fight."

The third figure, smaller yet radiating an unfathomable power, chuckled. "You speak of war so easily. But do you understand what you face? This is not a battle of mortals. Not even a battle of gods. This is a battle of existence itself."

Kael's gaze hardened. "It doesn't matter. Whatever comes, I will stop it."

The first man—whose very presence seemed to distort reality—nodded approvingly. "Then prepare yourself, Kael. The end of all things begins now."

---

The Looming Cataclysm

The vision shattered, and Kael found himself back in the ruins, his heart pounding. The warning was clear. The forgotten ones had returned, and a greater force loomed over reality itself.

He clenched his fists.

He had broken the cycle of gods.

But in doing so, he had awakened something worse.

And soon, it would come for him.
