Chapter 16 - Chapter 6: Titan Beneath the Mountain

Giovanni had heard the whispers. A giant Onix, monstrous in both size and strength, lurking somewhere near Mt. Hideaway. It was more than just a tale passed through drunk hikers or excitable children—his most trusted informant from the region had spoken of quakes, uprooted forests, and a deafening roar that echoed through the stone canyons.

He remembered something about it. Not from this life, but from the fragments of memories he still held from that other world—the anime world. There, Bruno of the Elite Four had caught such an Onix, using it in a brief battle that seemed more spectacle than struggle. But Giovanni had always found the depiction odd. Why would a Fighting-type specialist capture something so unlike his motif? And more than that—how had that battle ended so quickly, so easily?

He knew better now. This world was not the anime. This Onix would not fall with a single attack. It was real, and likely far more powerful than any creature Bruno had encountered. This titan might just be what he needed to push his team one step closer to true power.

He took only the Pokémon he deemed worthy to witness it. No Jessie, no James. Only Meowth—sharp-eyed and increasingly cunning, now training seriously under Giovanni's eye—and two of his youngest: Larvitar and Drillbur. They needed to see what power meant. They needed to understand what their future could hold, if trained right.

The climb to Mt. Hideaway wasn't difficult for Giovanni. He had traveled worse terrains in his youth and during the war. What made this one different was the silence. No Pokémon calls. No rustling leaves. The forest here held its breath.

He reached a stone pass, and the ground shifted. It wasn't an earthquake. It was… footsteps.

Then he saw it.

The Onix burst forth from the earth like an angry deity, coils longer than ten men, eyes burning with territorial fury. Its rocky body shimmered in the sunlight, not with crystals—but with sheer density and power. This wasn't some tamed, slumbering giant. This was a living landslide.

Giovanni smirked.

"You're the one, huh? Let's see what you can do. Rhydon, let's go."

The ground split as his trusted powerhouse emerged, roaring in challenge.

The battle began fast.

Onix charged, using its weight like a weapon. Rhydon countered with Megahorn, but the blow barely staggered the titan. The Onix coiled mid-motion, using the terrain like a slingshot, launching itself with a devastating Iron Tail. Rhydon was thrown back—cracks forming on his armor.

"Rhydon, Earth Power—now!"

The ground rippled, exploding beneath Onix—but it simply surged forward, forcing through the shockwaves. It was like trying to stop a falling mountain.

Rhydon took a second hit—Rock Slide from above—and Giovanni could see the pain in his eyes.

"Return. You've done enough."

He tossed his next Poké Ball.

"Nidoking—show it our power!"

The purple behemoth emerged, already snarling. Poison Jab, Brick Break, and a well-timed Ice Beam gave Onix pause, but the beast responded with Dragon Breath—an unusual move, but one that revealed something terrifying.

This Onix had battle experience. It wad Wild, yes—but not mindless. It was adapting.

Nidoking roared as he locked the creature down with a Horn Attack, and Giovanni seized the moment.

"Hyper Beam—full force!"

The golden blast struck Onix dead center. Dust filled the valley.

Silence.

Meowth's fur bristled as he peered from the boulder. "Boss… ya got it?"

The smoke cleared.

The Onix was still standing. Wounded. Breathing heavily. But not defeated. Not yet.

Then it did something unexpected—it didn't strike. It waited.

Giovanni stared.

Was it testing them?

He nodded slowly. "Smart one. You've fought humans before. Maybe even beat them. But you've never fought me."

Nidoking Use Brick Break ,

Nidoking tried to attack with Brick Break , but the onix screeched loudly , even Giovanni felt his ear fail to listen , Nidoking took that loud noice head on and was disoriented from it , Onix choose that exact moment to strick with a well timed Iron tail and Nidoking was sent flying.

Giovanni realised this Pokemon was nothing like that in the anime , it could challenge an elite 4 Pokemon and still survive .

He threw his final ball.

Charizard.

The fire-type emerged with a screech, wings blazing. He shouldn't have the advantage, but Giovanni trusted him to finish what Rhydon and Nidoking started.

A brutal exchange followed—Charizard flying low to avoid Rock Slide, slamming Onix with Flamethrower after Flamethrower. Still, the Onix persisted. Still, it struck back.

Only when Charizard gripped its head and unleashed a close-range Heat Wave did the giant roar in pain and finally collapse.

While Nidoking and Rhydon were injured they also injured it well allowing Charizard to get the finishing blow .

Giovanni approached carefully, an Ultra ball in hand.

"You'll be trained. Disciplined. Respected. You'll be more than a force of nature—you'll be a god of battle."

He threw the ball. One shake. Two. Three.

Click.

Hours later, Giovanni sat at a ledge with Meowth and the young ones, watching the sun dip beyond the horizon.

"That thing was… somethin' else," Meowth said, ears still twitching.

Giovanni didn't respond right away. He looked at the ball in his hand—the new addition to his main team. Stronger than anything he had caught in years. Maybe even stronger than most Gym Leader aces.

"This world's tougher than the anime ever showed," he said quietly. "I knew it. But seeing it like this… It's different."

Larvitar nudged Drillbur, eyes wide with awe.

Giovanni stood.

"I'll train it. Slowly. No point in evolving something it doesn't trust me yet. Steelix can come later. For now, it learns. Just like all of us."

He looked at Rhydon's cracked armor.

"And maybe it's time I find something for you too. A Protector. I think I remember something… but Rhyperior doesn't exist in this era yet . Not officially, I'll have to wait."

He looked up at the stars.

"Power. Patience. Planning. That's how we will become stronger ."

He smiled faintly.

Comic Strip: "After the Catch"

[Panel 1]

Scene: Back at the Rocket base. Giovanni walks in, covered in dust and scratches. Meowth limps beside him. Larvitar and Drillbur hop in excitedly.

Larvitar: "That was AMAZING! Did you see how big he was?!"

Drillbur: "He punched a MOUNTAIN."

[Panel 2]

Giovanni pours a glass of water and sits, unfazed. In the background, Onix's Ultra Ball is on a table, shaking slightly.

Giovanni: "Training starts tomorrow. If he's to evolve, we'll need him ready."

Meowth: "Can't we rest tomorrow?"

[Panel 3]

Larvitar is standing on a rock, mimicking Nidoking's Hyper Beam pose.

Larvitar (yelling): "HYPER BEAM!!!"

Drillbur throws pebbles like Rock Slide.

Drillbur: "Fear me, tiny Onix!"

[Panel 4]

Giovanni raises an eyebrow, watching them with a smirk.

Giovanni: "They're already trying to surpass legends."

Meowth (grinning): "Give 'em a week, Boss. They'll try to evolve just to win a snack."
